Summary: Excellent Game, Probably the first real "Everquest killer"
Review: First off let me make it clear that I am writing based on commercial experience and not beta experience. As for the launch, it was one of the best in recent PC game history, with only a few minor hiccups despite some insane server traffic. Also most of the few minor bugs that did exist on launch have since been squashed, and already only 2 weeks after launch new content is being added.

As for the gameplay itself, it is very good in Player vs. Monster. The 'camping' syndrome of EQ is eliminated as most special items are not tied to killing one slow spawning creature, and the fact that player-made items usually excede teh quality of dropped items. My character is not yet high enough to take part in Player vs Player combat but those who are have told me it is thrill unmatched in any other Multiplayer RPG. Secondly in a major departure from other rpgs. It is possible to easily level up even into the higher levels on your own. All the classes are built so that they can level without necessarily having to go find a group. While being in a group IS part of the fun and can make leveling much faster. I appreciate Mystic's(developer) acknowledgement that sometimes I may just want to go out on my own and play for a little while. Also as far as I can tell the classes are very well balanced.

Also on that tangent quests and mini-quests(tasks) not only give items but often experience and/or cash. These supplemental experience sources are an excellent way to relax from killing monsters, become better acquainted with the game world, and get nice items.

The graphics in the game are very good considering bandwidth and the level of detail, and the details in the game are remarkable.

One word of warning, the processing of this game world is not for the weak of processor or RAM. I highly recomend that your machine meet or beat the "recommended" specs rather than the minimum specs.

All in all, an excellent game from what Ive seen so far, and I highly anticipate the continuing improvement Mythic is putting into this title.

Summary: Stable, well-thought out, and lots of fun!
Review: I've played other massive multiplayer online RPG games (MMPORPGs), like UO, EQ, AC, and AO, and this is the most smooth product so far. The first thing I noticed was how very stable this game was from the first day of release. I only got booted out of the game once in my first five or so hours of play. (Those of you have tried the other games on launch before will appreciate how rare that is!) and I have experienced minimal lag and disconnects since then. Overall, I'm having great fun with it, and it's now my MMPORPG of choice. Breaking down by feature:

Graphics: Always a very personal choice, some people find the graphics slightly weak, but I like the spell effects, and overall the graphics are the equal of the other games out there (with the exception of Anarchy Online, which has other issues.)

Sound: Music is good, other sounds are minimal but usually nicely done. (Though I *hate* the footstep sound my character makes.) The sounds characters and monsters make during combat are well done.

Player vs Player: By far the most well-thought out of any MMPORPG out there. You choose one of three realms, and can either stay within that realm and avoid PvP altogether, or go to the borderlands and engage in realm vs realm combat.

Non-combat based play: There are lots of quests and tasks that, unlike other games, are truly rewarding when done. The trade skills also are much deeper than other games, and can be fun to engage in. It's finally possible to role-play a non-violent character who will actually level-up!

Character options: Based on the old Rolemaster RPG system, which I loved, your character development is skills-based, and the character classes have lots of variety and are very well thought out.

Overall, this is a wonderful, fun, and STABLE addition to the MMPORPG field.....I think you'll enjoy it if you get it.

Summary: Only get this game if you are extremely bored and love RPGs
Review: This game is extremely boring. The graphics arent really that great, there are practically no sounds, all you do is hit things with weapons and get their stuff and do it over again, I get no fun out of it whatsoever. This game would be nowhere without EQ(Do not think I am biased to EQ I do not play it) it basically got all its ideas from it and added a little more. To me, it is just a total EQ clone, it would have never been created without the thoughts and ideas EQ had. My advice if you dont like plain old ordinary RPG games like this one is to wait for shadowbane to come out.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I've started to be pretty pessimistic about games. When I go out and put the plastic down to buy one, I figure if I play it a few weeks to a month, I've gotten my entertainment value. Sometimes I play it a few times and it doesn't appeal, well, that's a shame. (And sometimes it's Anarchy Online, the installer bluescreens my PC, and the company is so unresponsive I issue my first complaint ever to a Better Business Bureau.)

And with luck, you find a game that you play day after day, week after week, month after month. Everquest was that game, since I started playing 6 months ago, I have probably averaged playing 5 days a week, almost every one of them pure pleasure. I bought DAOC figuring I'd play a month to check it out and then it would probably join the other games on my shelf. Instead a week later I find myself cancelling my Everquest account in favor of DAOC.

Dark Age of Camelot is, by far, the best MMPORPG on the market today. It has taken the best aspects of Everquest, Asheron's Call, and Ultima Online, taken out all the things that people hate about the genre, and combined them with a very responsive and customer friendly company to produce a game that is clearly the industry leader.

The specifics about gameplay can, at this point, be found on dozens of sites. It's not hyperbole. This game is addictive and enjoyable. It's not hype. If you're a current MMPORPG player, this is the game you've dreamed of. If you're not, don't bother with the others, start out with DAOC, it's the best.

That's not to say that there aren't problems, but one of the biggest pleasures of DAOC is the company's attitude. Customer Service stats posted for the public. Apologies for problems. Explanations of future plans. It all equals a company that makes you feel like you're valued as a customer and that they will do what it takes to keep your business.

Summary: Next Generation MMORPG
Review: This is definitely worth the money. Kiss your life goodbye, this is one of those games that will keep you up late and wondering if you could get away with taking a day off from work. ...Can't spend any more time writing review...must get back to game.... :)

Summary: Great for newbies too
Review: I'm new to the world of online rpg's. My main experiences are FF and the Chrono series. I purchased this game upon the recommendation of a friend and I must say it is pretty awesome. The game is updated regularly still (5 times since launch a week ago), and the graphics are awesome. There is some lag in the cities capitols and when you are around a large amount of characters, but if you have a 32M or higher graphics card you should be fine. The other players seem to be friendlier in Hybernia than any other realm and seems to have more players who are willing to help as well. Leveling up is pretty easy, I leveled to 10 within a week averaging about 2 hours a day. The part of the game that I'd like to see improved is the frequency of weapons dropped by higher level lesser spawning enemies. I have gotten only 2 useful items in about 10 levels worht of kills so take that for what it is worth. Most the items they drop are good for trading for money, but it takes a ton of money and tons of fighting to get what you need which is nice. You can't go out and get money from you buddy for some big time armor because unless it cons to your level it is worthless and cannot be worn until you level up as well as it encumbering you when you are out.

I can't really explain in this little space how great this game is, but I can tell you it is very addictvie so if your relationsip with your spouse is on the rocks this may not be the best game to get, but if you are looking for a lot of fun and have a lot of time on your hands this is for you.

Summary: Dark Age of Camelot Hits the boards.
Review: Im only 10 but i have allot to say about this.

Dark Age of Camelot has exctroadanary Graphics. Its like your living in the game. You can play with people over the net , kill monsters (Including animals and other players). Unlike other games i played like Ever quest, Anarchyonline , and the small bit of Asheron's call, When it came out, there wasn't allot of lag , and very few Bugs. Although, it is hard to level high level's I like that it's challenging.

Summary: Everything I was looking for... minus the comfortable chair
Review: Wow! Where to begin? This game has some great features that I have looked for since playing the other major RPGs over the years. Armor takes a beating and needs repair after some time, as do weapons... There are rogue-type characters who can use poisons... The spells are very eye-catching... The quality of the quests and tasks is admirable... The different avenues of character growth are tremendous... The user interface takes a few minutes to adjust to, but is very appealing afterwards... The many types of weapons and armor you can choose from is another way to define your character also.

I like the game so much, I am cancelling my other online RPG accounts, buying a more comfortable chair, putting a small fridge upstairs, and changing jobs so I'll have more time to play... ok ok, maybe everything but that last part! I can just get up earlier to get some playing time in! :)

Thanks, Mythic!

Summary: Current state-of-the-art in Multiplayer Online Computer Game
Review: Having played all of the other major Multiplayer Online Games (Ultimate Online, EverQuest, and Asheron's Call), in my opinion "Camelot" is the best.

It is clear that the designers spent a great deal of time studying all the other games, especially EverQuest (the most popular in the U.S.) and came up with real improvements in every area that EverQuest was weak.

Example: "down time" (when you are recovering from a fight) is a maximum of 90 seconds, and usually a lot less. Having been in large groups, down time is usually less than 30 seconds.

Example: trade skills. It is fun to make things in Camelot, you can become a master of one skill without doing any fighting, and the items you can make are better (and cheaper) than you can buy from game-controled merchants.

Example: player graphics. You can customize your look to a huge degree (even more than in Ultima Online). You can easily create a visually distinct look for your character that makes you different in the game from the vast majority of other players.

Camelot looks great, the buildings are very "accurate" (for their time period which is Medeival England and Viking era Scandinavia), the player races are all great looking, the animations are smooth.

Down side: Some realms (Hibernia) are not "finished" in that large areas are not well populated and very few "dungeons" can be found. However, the company is committed to adding more content to the game from here on to the future. Also it is hard to know how to price items that you make (minor nit).

I could go on about what a great game this is and how well put together it seems but I won't. I will say that I haven't been this happy playing a game in years.

Summary: One Week Player Review
Review: I am a long time player of MMORPG games. I did not get in Dark Age of Camelot beta, and as such I've only been playing for about a week now, since release, as I write this review.

I'm giving it 5 stars.

For me, Camelot is the third generation of 3D MMORPG games. I started in Everquest (good), then Asheron's Call (better), played AO for a couple months (bad). I say this so you will know where I am coming from.

Rightly so, mythic has done well to learn from the other games that have been published before. It listens to the players and reacts. First, off... grouping.

Grouping in EQ was fun, however difficult to find groups sometimes. But it was necesary. Very few classes in EQ would actually solo effectively. In AC, we all know grouping was something you did if you were questing for something, wasn't really something you wanted to do for XP.

Camelot seems to have reached the happy medium here. Grouping is good. In fact, you can do better in a group than you can solo. However, soloing isn't an impossibility. Even my cleric can solo from time to time, though I prefer to be in a group.

Finding a group to play with in camelot is made extremely easy through the inclusion of a brilliant group finding tool. You can mark yourself as looking for group and you can also use a "find" tool to find leaders that are looking for members that fit your class type. The leaders can also do a find and see everyone nearby who is looking for a group. Fairly easy. The maximum number of members in a group is 8, and this makes for some fairly diverse parties.

The classes are interesting as well, you start out in a "beginner" type class and by level 5 you will have to pick a path to follow for the rest of your life. As a Highlander in the realm of Albion, I chose the Acolyte path. From this, at level 5 I could have been a Cleric or a Friar. I chose the path of the Cleric.

Downtime is a constant complaint amoung certain MMORPGs, however in Camelot it seems to be kept to a minimum, most times its almost nonstop action.

Realm is very important, you can only have 4 characters per server and they must all be in the same realm. Having characters in another realm is fine as long as its on a different server, however making characters in different realms on the same server (the only way to do this is if you had multiple accounts) is frowned upon. You are at war with the other realms and spies will be executed. :)

The realms are diverse, such that being in a different realm is almost like being in another game. I must admit, I really only have extended experience with the realm of Albion. But the others are graphically unique and each has its own flavor.

For those out there that like Player vs. Player action, you have the option of engaging in the realm wars, storming castles, capturing relics, generally doing for your realm all you can do to give your realm the edge. For those that do not wish to engage in this kind of play, it is not required.

I will not lie and tell you this game is without its faults, however. There are some technical issues that need to be worked out but I'm sure mythic is working on fixing those issues. It is a very young game yet, so the few bugs I've come across are forgivable. But to me, they really don't distract very much from the playability of the game. I've played for hours on end without any problems, and they've been very enjoyable hours.

As I say, this is a one week review and I may update it should my feelings change. But right now, I've had a tremendously fun time in Camelot. It is a welcome change to the worlds I'm used to.
