Review: I think I've tried them all, and this is my favorite combat flight simulator that portrays aircraft of the WWII era. It has outstanding graphics, and the flight characteristics of the individual aircraft are modeled realistically within the necessary constraints of the game. It is meant to be fun, after all. I like Navy fighter planes (the F4F, F6F and F4U)with their big radial engines. They are not available in this game, which is based in Europe and features the U.S. Army Air Corps, the Luftwaffe and the Royal Air Force. Nevertheless, for graphics and just plain flying fun, this game is hard to beat. In this one, you can fly the P-51, P-47, P-38, Spit, Bf-109, or FW-190. You can also check out their cockpits and specs, get some history of that ancient conflict (can it actually have been 60 years ago? Seems like yesterday!). Jane's has long been the definitive source for information on planes, ships and armaments. It is appropriate that the best combat sim around has their name on it. I run an AMDK6-2 (350) CPU, Diamond Monster 3D II video accelerator, Flight Stick Pro with rudder pedals, and only 64 Mbs of RAM. The game loaded and played well from the very beginning, though my setup is minimal by most gamer's standards. I have some experience with full-sized aircraft (I soloed in 1946) and radio-controlled models. These games are fun! When you get a little experience, there are even on-line combat flying games (Air Warrior is a good one) in which you can fly against real people. This game, by Electronic Arts, and Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator II (Pacific Theater) are the tops in my opinion for entertainment and excitement, as well as top graphics and flight modeling. Microsoft's game was a bit more picky getting it to run smoothly. Graphics are comparable. This game is my first choice. Joseph Pierre, USN (Ret)

Review: Easy to learn to fly & very stable in the air. The graphics & sound are very good, even better than most $30 games!
There is a unique tracking toggle that displays a small picture of the object you are tracking in realtime, plane, vehicle or structure, which is really great to see your attack's aftermath. It also has "non-drone" mobile ground targets, even soldiers in motion. the graphics & sound effects from dropping a bomb are great! The only draw back (hence the lack of the fifth star) is the short list of Axis fighters to fly but atleast they chose among the best ones to fly. For the price I paid (half what most sim's go for) I was expecting down scale & got a shock when I saw just how good it was! I'm hope there is a sequel!

Review: Excellent game! Graphics are very good. Very detailed aircraft. Realistic for the most part. Everything is easily accessible for function layout. Very informational as far as history overview. I especially liked how you can see the machine gun and cannons shell casings dropping out, and the explosions were very realistic looking. The only shortcoming would be more aircraft to choose from, like the Hawker Hurricane,the Focke Wulf 190 D-9, TA-152, and more German bombers. I would highly recommend this game, not only for the price, but for the amount of fun that can be had.

Summary: "Iceman"
Review: Great game! My favorite is the P-51 Mustang! Realistic aircraft. Excellent graphics. Single mission option allows you to do flight training, i.e., landing, takeoff and navigation. In addition you can fly training missions in strafing, bombing and firing rockets at targets with on-screen instructions. When you get comfortable with these missions (if you're a new-comer) you can progress to actual missions on specific campaigns or build your own personal missions, if you like. I've tried MS Combat Flight Sim, Figher Aces and a couple of others. I've yet to see a WWII Fighter game that tops this one! You can't go wrong with it, especially at this price!

Summary: Read This before you buy it, please!
Review: I have come to expect realism from Jane's. I own three games, and take great pride in knowing that I could virtually fly the real thing by the time I am done learning to play. However WWII Fighters is lacking in realism, excitement and playability. TRUST ME: if you enjoyed LB1 & 2, F-15, Fighter's-Anthology and F/A-18...steer clear of this one.
The first problem with the game that I noticed was its extreme difficulty to navigate. The features should be more centralized and easier to find. Second, after completing my training missions, I realized that besides a few pop-up guages, the virtual cockpit guages exists for aesthetic appeal ONLY--you can but blurrily see your fuel guage and others, and I don't even know whether or not they represent the actual status of your plane. You can barely see the sky and ground with your cockpit view activated anyway.
In combat, I was P.O.'d when I discovered no wingman commands existed. My wingmen would happily "do their own thing" and go AWOL on insane rampages of destruction without my permission. Then, when a FW-190 engaged their tails they would cry out to me for help. Alas! I did not know where they were or how to coordinate my attacks with them, i.e., telling them to rejoin my wing and capping the poor Kraut chasing him as he comes near. This makes it VERY hard to kill aircraft, as they will most likely do sommersaults into the clouds or run until you get bored, run out of gas, or just level out of frustration and allow them to perform a coup de grace with a 20mm cannon to your hinney. The targeting system is such that you must cycle through several targets before locating the right one.
The campaign is most dissapointing. You cannot choose what you fly, what you bring, or where you start in any given campaign mission. There are no awards or promotions--so feel free to set your ammo to unlimited wihtout any adverse consequences. There is no dynamic campaign system like in Longbow 2--you can blow up a million targets and it will have 0 affect on the remaining campaign. You do not have to return home--you can quit in midflight and you will safely teleported back to your base--cool. ^_^
Last, but not least, are the bleeding graphics and flight model. The model is pretty real, but your enemy always seems to be able to climb like a rocket into clouds while you stall back to earth--this exercise goes on until you crash or give up, and he will happily take advantage of your frustration. Nazi motto: Run like a punk for hours and then shoot em' when he stops chasing you. The graphics, CONTRARY TO WHAT EVERYONE TELLS YOU, are only mediocre. The plane will have many jagged edges, your pilot's form resembles a Lego's play-figure, and many times have I crashed to see half of my aircraft "melding" into the hillside.
Moral of the story...if you like pointing and shooting and moving on to the next mission--this is a good game for you. You can turn all the expert play down and have jolly good fun. But if you are a traditional Jane's fan, this isn't a good investment. Every morning I wake up and grit at the WWII Fighter's box that I acquried a few weeks ago, and think about how well F/A-18 would look in it's place. ~_~

Review: I like something in particular about each of the best flight sims, CFS, CFS Pacific, Warbirds, and Air Warrior, but Jane's WWII fighters is AWESOME. A new PC upgrade recently got me back in the cockpit in VERY REAL combat and flight simulation, thanks to Electronic Arts. I like the night missions. Turn the lights off... just the red glow in the cockpit to navigate by... the graphics, scenery, and effects are spectacular. It is easy to forget to watch your six! For the PRICE, there is no better combat flight sim. In fact, some pricey sims aren't this good!

Summary: something you'd expect in 2005
Review: I love this game! The selection of aircraft is great. The flight models are a dream. I have no probs with this game. Smple,fun,and complex missions. In cockpit veiw if you make a sudden turn your "head" moves the opposite way. Ground detail is poor though objects are good. In case you're wondering, they put gore in the rating because you can shoot soldiers, and if you zoom up close you can hear their screams of pain and see blood spurt out of their bodies. Also the radio chatter occasionally belts out Oh G-- and Oh s---. All in all its a great game.

Review: I thought that this game would be a flop but it caught my attention right away. The graphics are pretty good, but it's the game play thats the best in this one. It's easy to learn and it'll keep you occupied for hours. You fly amazing planes and they all have their special qualities. The best part is the damage you get. It isn't a game where you crash and die right away; the parts fall off, you start on realistic looking fire, and when you hit the ground you bounce and roll until you come to a complete stop. If you like combat flight sims this ones for you.
