Rating: Summary: Great Game! Review: I got this game for free years ago and am dissappointed that I cannot locate it now to revisit it. This game was REALLY good. It was very eerie and the atmosphere was great in the whole ghost-story kind of way. I agree with the reviewer who liked that the "puzzles" were integrated with the storyline. I felt like a detective trying to put the pieces together to solve a mystery unlike in Myst where it was more like codebreaking. I will admit there were a few times I was actually afraid to open a door. I played this game at night, alone and with the lights out. I definitely got the full effect that I'm sure the developers were striving for. I will say that it did end a bit too quickly - I wanted more as soon as it ended. But that may just be the mark of a great game.
Rating: Summary: Spooky Fun! Review: Amber was good, spooky fun - very imaginative, nice graphics, effective story line. The three paranormal "vignettes" were each quite different and having them all take place in the same setting but at different historical eras was a nice touch. By being attentive and exploring assiduously I rarely got stuck (as I often do in other adventure games.) If you're not interested in guts and gore but like something that will put a chill up your spine, this is for you. I wish there were more like this one!
Rating: Summary: lameass game Review: Absolutely the lamest adventure game I've ever played. Almost no gameplay in it at all. Extremely annoying sequence in which you're stuck with nothing to explore, but you have to keep poking around aimlessly until you get a line of dialogue from your ghost. Two places in which the game hung completely and my machine had to be rebooted. (Do not touch locked doorknob until you have key!! Do not touch trapped clown!!!!)Game is comprised of simple inventory manipulations, with lots of moving around between each step. Only minor puzzles, and few of them at that. Movement is annoying, sight angles are unclear in most of the scenes; very confusing to figure out where you are standing and what you can look at. If you liked Obsidian, or Neverhood, or Rama, or Curse of Monkey Island, DO NOT BUY AMBER: Journeys Beyond!!! It will be a complete waste of your money and time.
Rating: Summary: Fun Game Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Yep, it is a bargain game, but well worth the 10 dollars spent on it. The puzzles are fairly simple as long as you pay attention to the hints scattered throughout the game. There is no combat, which is a plus to me. The scenes are well set up and there are some very spooky parts to this game. (All I have to say is clown puppet...shiver!) Overall good game for those who like to puzzle about within a storyline.
Rating: Summary: Amber: Death is Not the End of Gaming Review: As a person interested in some paranormal happenings, I found this game to be right up my alley. The graphics were gorgeous, the sound effects and music spine-tinglingly haunting, and the storyline compelling. Once I started the game, I could not be pried away from my computer!
Rating: Summary: Good but Short Review: This is a nice game. The story is quite interesting and some of the scenes are beautiful and lend a nice atmosphere completely suitable to the 'death' theme throughout the game. However, don't expect to be impressed. It's a good game, something to amuse you for a few hours but that's the end of it. It's unlikely that you'll want to play it again or that you'll remember it a year later except that it was 'good.'
Rating: Summary: Easy Going and Quite Scary Review: Amber is different than most games you've been playing. There are no puzzles to solve. That's right! No tricks, no frustration. Amber is the name of a paranormal psychic energy -measuring device that leads your friend Roxy to utilize the new equipment in an old haunted house. Something goes awry and you travel to this home to see what happenned to Roxy and her new equipment. Sound fun? It is. Mysteries. Mysteries. Why is Roxy unconscious wearing the Amber head gear in the garage, of all places? Should you experiment with the equipment? Sure. Beware as you follow in your friend's footsteps while trying to figure what happened to her. This PC game is fun. It takes you through portals of time to uncover the secret of the hauntings. I found the game to be quite thrilling. Things really do go bump in the night! So why only three stars? While the idea of mystery puzzles vs. physical ones seems original and fun, the game is easy. A young high schooler could figure the "moves" out. You are given a place, a circumstance, and an enviroment with tools. Everything you need to solve the mystery is staring you in the face. Go ahead and give it a go. The plot, first-person scenario, and all the truly frightening hauntings make this an easy going game. A perfect breather to play in between the usual brain-frying choices.
Rating: Summary: Not The Best Game Produced Review: I got Amber from a freind and was so excited to play it. When I started playing, I thought it was an awesome. But, after a few days, I was starting to get bored. The game took too long to load, was very hard to play, got boring, and, after you get into the garden, you get vary vary lost vary vary fast. I am not saying that the game isn't awesome, but it is very boring and very hard to find exits after you get into the core of the game. There is one nice part of the game and that is the under water roller coaster. That was the big highlight for me.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Review: What a beautiful game! I loved the storylines, and the initial plot. Those who think it's primitive, well, it is. Remember, folks, it was made in mid-90's. I loved everything about this fascinating game. I've been in contact with the developers, and unfortunately, there won't be a sequel. It wasn't really a top-seller, and the team at Hue Forest has moved on to other career endeavors. I'd still like to thank Hue Forest for a very wonderful game!
