Summary: Hands down
Review: Ask anyone who knows me, I spend WAY too much time playing this game, thinking/talking about it, running servers, tweaking the UT system files, etc. When I first saw it on a friends system in 1999, I knew I had to not only play it, but master it. Still working on that! There is no end to the directions this game series can take you in. It is definetely hands down the greatest (PC or otherwise) game, ever, period. The fact that it's open source is icing on the cake, and has greatly contributed to UT's diversity and quality. Have I mentioned that I'm pretty fond of it? Get it. Play it.

Summary: A Bargin Bin Great
Review: For those people who missed out on playing Unreal when it came out the first time (like me) this is definately a bargain. Actually, being a fan of Half-Life, I was worried that it would be a mindlessly repetitive blasting of everything that moves. Well, I guess it is rather mindless, but it certainly has enough variation to make me want to play just a little farther. The locales are all diverse and fresh, making a bit of an explorer's game, with a nice mix of weapons, almost all of which are useful (or at least the game gives you enough ammo to play wih all of them). And naturally, Tournament is a great multi-player game (Game of the Year...)

Summary: Warning...
Review: Having experienced the UT demo in 1999, I decided to purchase Totally Unreal, knowing very well that it would install and run superbly on my new Dell 1.7 Ghz computer system. It installed well enough, but like most games that have come out before Windows XP, this one, TOO, did not run on my state-of-the-art system.

I even wrote Infograme's incompetent tech support (they had absolutely no idea how to help me and provided me with only several suggestions) and looked for patches and files on several different websites, including Unreal Tournament's own website.

It's an inexcusable shame that a title this popular doesn't have a patch or update of some type to be compatible with XP, but when you consider that Infogrames produced it, it should come as no suprise. They're infamous for ruining long-running series (e.g., Test Drive) and most of their demos that I download rank right down there with other inept software companies such as EIDOS and PSYGNOSIS for having no value or playability...

Summary: Its Unreal
Review: This is one of the BEST video games ive ever laid eyes on. If you found a tree growing unreal fruit, and juiced it, it wouldnt be as unreal as Epic, DE, Legend, and Infogrames made the Unreal series.

First, there is Unreal Gold, not the best SP game i've played, but its close. The technology put forth, with the unique weapons brought me back for more, and the gold pack made by Legend added more SP chaos. I never got MP to work. Weird...

If not for Unreal Tournament, id give this pack a 3 next to the 5 I gave Half-Life GOTY. This is the BEST FPS I've ever played. PERIOD. The weapons are fun, the bots are fun, and every detail of the graphics kick butt. I prefer this over Quake 3 because the weapons are realistic, the maps are well crafted, the HUD is good, and most importantly, the netcode. The netcode for UT is a lot better than any Quake engine, and i like mods such as Infiltration, and Jailbreak 3. The mutator system is fun, too. From chainsaws to instagib, it adds playability to this game.

I gave Toltally Unreal a 5, because it is a great series of games. With the hope of Legend's SP adventure Unreal 2, DE's Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Championship, and Epic own Unreal Warfare, this looks like a game franchise that will stay.

Summary: Totally Great Value!
Review: Totally Unreal includes three of the best computer games I've ever played. Return to Na Pali, Unreal Tournament, and especially Unreal are fantastic shooters that I've yet to see bettered by anybody. And for the price, you simply can't go wrong.

When I started playing Unreal back in 1999, I quickly realized it was something very special. The music, sound effects, level design, and especially the technical sophistication of the graphics left me very pleased to say the least. This game takes you to another world like no other game can. The weapons, although awkward at first, pack a real punch that can bring down even the scariest of Unreal's monsters, and believe me these monsters can be frightening. Take a trip without the drugs, man!

Return to Na Pali is very similar to Unreal but includes a new weapon or two and new monsters in addition to the old ones. It also has some voice acting thrown in. You might criticize this expansion for being too much like the original Unreal, but that's fine with me because more Unreal is nothing to complain about!

Unreal Tournament varies significantly from the other two games in that it is a multi-player oriented game. That is, it features death match, team death match, domination, assault, and capture the flag which are meant to be played against other humans. Nevertheless, I played against the "bots" in single player and had a great time. Unreal Tournament is packed with features that allow you to customize the single player matches including the skill level and number of bots. It also has some "mutators" that really enhance your gaming experience and keeps the game fresh. Although different from the adventure style shooters I prefer, Unreal Tournament is a very fun game.

If there was anything I might quibble about in Unreal Tournament, it's the lack of a single-player adventure. However, even this problem has been resolved with a modification Called "Operation Na Pali." You can download this mod for free, and it's almost like a game in its own right. It uses the Unreal Tournament technology and allows you to go on a long adventure on the same planet as Unreal. You can use the Unreal Tournament weapons against the monsters from Unreal, and believe me, that's a great combination. It has new levels of course, but it takes you back to some of the levels in Unreal which have been modified. It's a truly great modification.

I can't say it enough: Get this software! You'll have three of the best shooters ever, and it all comes at a very reasonable price. Go on a trip without the drugs!
