Summary: One of the better flight sim war games
Review:

I've probably seen all of them from the WWII era, from the old 1942 Pacific air war to IL-2 Sturmovik. This is one of the most entertaining. It flies pretty well and the graphics are almost as good as some of the later ones. It has given me a lot of pleasure.

I rank the best ones as follows: IL-2 (Sturmovik); Janes WWII Fighters; Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (Pacific Theater); Microsoft's Flight Simulator (WWII Europe Series); and finally this one: European Air War,by Microprose.

My ranking is based on quality of graphics, smoothness of manuever with a good computer (mine is a 1.8 Ghz Gateway Pentium 4 with a half-gig of RAM and ATI) and the flight modelingof the aircraft (how close to the real aircraft they are in their performance). My judgment on the latter is based on the fact that I have flown a variety of real prop driven aircraft since I soloed in 1946, as well as many radio-controlled models.

Review: I bought this game, and I expected it to be awesome. I was kind of disappointed.Well, 1st of all, the gameplay was ok. The stability was not so incredibly good. Sometimes the game will shut down after a mission( the missions are ok, but it takes a long time for each 1). It was easy to learn. Multiplayer on the web isnt that great, because NO BODY plays on the internet with this game. Its just too old, which also is the reason for my 3-star rating. The graphics aren't as good as the cover looks, believe me. The smoke from planes is a greenish color. Sounds weird, huh? Well thats the way it is on my computer. I guess I should have considered that this game was made in 1998. Well, I guess this game was good a few years ago, but its just too outdated.

P.S. this game doesn't run on 2000 or ME (it says 95-98 on the box)

Review: I don't profess to be any expert on video games, but I am a private pilot and warbird buff, and these factors are what attracted me to this game when it was originally produced. I actually wore my original CD-ROM out, to the point where the game would skip views repeatedly, from playing it for hours at a time. I have tried to replace it, but it has gone out of production. I have tried to substitute other games; Flight Squadron's various versions, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, etc. None of them compare with the excellent graphics, the realism of flight sensation and ballistics, the numerous features and parameters, the user-friendly interface... European Air War surpasses them all! I remember some minor glitches with some of the formats, but since I haven't played it in several years, I can't recall the details of specific problems. When I had the game, I sought out patches at the company's website (then MicroProse) and it did help. All in all, I truly miss this game, and will buy it again if I can find a copy.

Review: I have been around computers now for most of my adult life. I bought my first desk top computer in 1990 and my first lap top in 1996. But I never considerd playing games on them, I mean computers were only for work. Right?
I might also mention that I flew fighters,(F-18/F-4)for 12 years in the Marine Corps. Well, the other day I was at the store and saw a game that caught my eye. My former fighter pilot intrest got the best of me so I took a chance and bought "European Air War" by Infogrames. Keep in mind that I had never been much of a "gamer", but when I saw the capabilty within this game I bought a new joystick and began to play regularly. I became so involved with this one game I bought the best desk top computer with the most advanced graphics card that I could find.
I now enjoy other games about WWII, but I am greatful to this one game that reopened up my eyes to that razor sharp world of being a fighter pilot. The skills I once used Fly my F-18 are still viable in these games. Only now I get to fly really cool aircraft like the P-47!
I give this this game 5 stars because of the sheer enjoyment it has given me, by allowing me to revisit my fighter pilot roots.

Review: I played this game for the first time last night and I found that this is a fun and very beautiful game to play. With the patch, the game play is very nice and the graphics are great. The only problem that I have found with the game is that it seems to be too easy to shoot down enemy planes.

On my very first mission I (along with 8 or so other spitfires) attacked a German bomber formation of over 20 planes. The excitement of seeing so many targets in the sky at once is awsome! But, on my first pass through the german formation I was able to down 4 HE-111's which seemed way too easy. I may have the realism settings for the weapons or the planes set too easy and this may fix the problem, but it seemed that I only had to barely hit the bomber and it would explode into 1000 pieces. So, in my first mission I downed a total of 7 He-111's and was an ace right off the bat.

Otherwise, the excitement of the game was great and the graphics are stunning, I just need to fix the gun problem and set the target strength up higher (if I can).

Summary: An excellent game
Review: Since my earliest days I've had an amateurish facination with World War II aviation, and in particular that of the western European theater, and have always fantacized about what it must have been like to fly these warbirds. Not that one can compare the real thing to a computer simulation, but European Air War certainly gives one a fair impression. For me that's all I need, and am very content with this game even though it is getting somewhat dated.
