Review: In the commercial Sammy claims that his game is "...so real." I beg the differ, this game is o.k. but all the hype is cheap. The gameplay may be good but where it counts (graphics) this game falls short.

Summary: Great MLB Action and Gameplay!
Review: My former baseball team teammate and now video game programmer/company-owner initially recommended High Heat Baseball to me. He was dead on because this is by far the best baseball game I've played so far. The individual major league stadiums and player profiles are realistic. The best part of this game is the realism with player/pitcher match-ups. It is not that 'EASY' to get a bunch of runs yet with practice and good players the stats are reflected commesurately. As a hardcore baseball fan and stats enthusiast this game has kept me up to the wee hours of the night! It's addictive; the custom league and drafts are alot of fun as well. I'd highly recommend this if you love baseball games!

Summary: Great game when it doesn't crash
Review: Probably the best baseball game out there in terms of statistical realism, graphics, features, etc., but it constantly crashes, even with the patches that are provided on the 3DO web site, tweaking PC settings, etc. It's brutally annoying and frustrating to have to save the game every 1/2 inning, and constantly restart the PC when it crashes. 3DO offers a community bulletin board and free email, too, but this customer service can not overcome the overall lack of stability.

Review: Simply the best baseball game you can get. More features than anyone else, yet easy enough to pick up and play. If you want a home run derby, maybe get Triple Play, but if you want real baseball (AND home run derby...), get High Heat.

Summary: Awesome MLB Action... addictive!
Review: The first baseball computer game I ever owned was "HardBall!" for the Mac. Black and white, two teams, cheezy as all get-out, but I loved it. I played a whole season once, 162 games, tracking home run stats, with those two teams.Since then, I never owned a baseball game... until now. And man, Sammy Sosa's High Heat 2001 is one hell of a game. The depth and breadth of the game is incredible, from the accuracy of the team rosters to the inclusion of the newest ballparks to the trading model... *gasp for breath* ...it goes on and on. To the folks below: If you computer is crashing, it's not the game, because SSHHBB2001(for short) has never crashed on me. Try a clean reinstall of your system. Any true gamer knows that the real heart of any game is how the game PLAYS. Graphics mean absolutely diddly. And anyway, SSHHBB2001 has great graphics! Players faces are mapped onto their bodies, they run, throw and bat realistically, different batters' stances are accurately depicted, the stadiums are accurate down to the advertising and the color of the infield dirt... what game were you playing? And as far as the gameplay goes, SSHHBB2001 has wonderful gameplay. You can play as pitcher, batter, pitcher and batter, or manager. There are myriad options for customizing your game, making management decisions, etc etc... Plus the game offers X different modes: Exhibition mode to play a single game matching any two teams, Season mode to play a whole season, career mode to (theoretically) play as long as you can, creating your own stats, Hall of Fame, on and on and on. There are also batting practice and Home Run Derby modes. Man, I've had this game a week and I already know my girlfriend will kill herself for buying it for me. :) Bottom line: Great graphics. Stellar gameplay. Incredible depth, plus infinite tweaking available in the tune.txt file. This game has it all, and I suspect I'll be playing it even more than I played HardBall!.

Summary: I love this game -- and I'm not into sports!
Review: The game has it all! I enjoy simulation games, but am always looking to spice up my game collection with gear that uses different approaches to that same-old-song-and dance. Sammy Sosa's High Heat Baseball 2001 gave me the simulation/management aspect of the game, while allowing me to play the game as well (if I choose to do so). Truth be told, I bought the game as an alternative to some other sports games, because it had the ability to be more than just "Baseball Mogul" or some glorified fantasy baseball simulation. And, I didn't need a 3d video card, either! I didn't realize at the time that the game would end up ranking as one of my all time favorites. I'm not a sports person, but SSHH2001 has hooked me. I find myself playing both the simulation aspect and the "baseball game" aspect about equally. And, as with all GOOD games, you never end up with the same game twice. The play-by-play in SSHH2001 is predictable after a while, but has improved my swing and my eye for hitting that slider or fastball. I'm still having trouble with the change-up, but I am sure that with more batting practice, even I will improve. The graphics are not the world's best, but I can't complain given all the other fabulous goodies -- home run derby, customizable seasons, draft picks, develop your own farm teams, batting practice with ability to set the types of pitches, simulating seasons, trades, a High Heat MVP, stats that have a bearing on game simulation performance... the list goes on. And for the price, it's gotta be one of the best baseball games around. Heck... even 3DO guarantees your satisfaction. What have you got to lose?

Summary: High Heat: It Doesn't Get Better
Review: There's no wonder why so many magazines call this one of thegreatest GAMES (not only sports) of all time. There is so much depththat it is unbelievable. Although at times the graphics and sound are a tad bit weak, that is more than made up for by the gameplay. Batting practice, Home Run Derby, all the NEW stadiums and OLD (Comerica AND Tiger Stadium), it's awesome. You won't be dissapointed! END

Summary: SAMMY ROCKS!
Review: There's so many baseball games out there, that a lot of people don't know which one to buy. But I'll tell you something- BUY SAMMY SOSA HIGH HEAT BASEBALL 2001. I'm telling you it's the best! I'll tell you why: 1. you can have minor league people and trade all sorts of people. 2. It's so real it's unbelieveable! 3. It's just like a real game because people insult the visiting team while they're batting and fielding and if the visiting team hits a home run the people in the stands through it back! 4. Lastly there's homerun derbys, seasons, playoffs, CUSTOM LEAGUES, and batting practice so the fun never ends! THAT'S WHY IT'S THE BOMB! (Just whatever you do DON'T buy the playstation version of this game. IT'S AWFUL AND IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE PC GAME! It has almost nothing of what i listed above! )

Review: This game has been a tremendous disappointment. I've been working on it for hours, still can't get it to run. Not only that, it's taken over my computer! None of the other games that I used to enjoy run, either! I have a very new system: AMD Athlon 650, Matrox G400 vid card, but this game requires Microsoft DirectX 7.0a -- in fact, it installs it on your computer when you install the game, but it doesn't check to see if DirectX7.0a is compatible with YOUR system. If not, watch out! As far as I know, there's no way to know this before hand. I've troubleshot everything according to the instructions given in the game to no avail. All the diagnostic tools say everything is fine, but... still no game. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to uninstall everything and get back to where I started. It's not as easy as you'd think, because the uninstall that comes with the game doesn't uninstall DirectX7.0a. You're still stuck with that one. I wish I could say something about the game itself, but for obvious reasons, I'm totally ignorant of any of the wonderful features espoused by the other reviewers. All I can say is, I think you're taking your chances with this one, and considering the wide availability of baseball sim games out there, you might have a better experience with something else.
