Summary: Awful product from the premier sports game makers
Review: I cannot believe that this game is so awful, even after EA Sports decided to scrap the 2002 version. I had been a huge fan of EA Sports games because of their "close to reality" gameplay. Live 2003 is nothing but another version of NBA 2K3... the king of arcade games. I enjoy the fun aspect of the game, but not to where FG% is over 80% constantly. The AI is so awful and you can't adjust it like in Madden 2003 (can't the developers share some secrets?). The graphics is awesome, the soundtrack is platinum-quality. But too bad I can't even play 8-minute quarter without scoring less than 100 points and shooting over 80%. RIDICULOUS!!

Summary: Unhappy User
Review: I could not believe that EA did not add a save function that allowed users to save during a game. Unless you intend on playing an entire game, everything will be lost. After realizing this, I returned the product for a full refund?

Summary: this game rocks
Review: i played this game on Xbox at camp last year and this years version is just like it, only with a roster update. the main problem with this game is it is unrealistic (i had 6 block with the Truth in the 1st quarter and 160 points in the game)...This best camera angle is baseline low and when you start the game zoom all the way out, but the game rock if you dont really follow basketball very closely, it has pretty updated rosters, and the gamplay is good

Summary: Playing with a keyboard is very hard....
Review: I rate the game 4 stars, because playing with a keyboard is hard, and unless you buy a game pad, like the ones connected to the game consoles, and attach it to your computer, which will cost extra money. If you get used to playing with the keyboard, which I did a day after i bought the game, you will be able to play very good.
Anyway, overall playing the game is fun. NBA Live offers new tracks from famous rappers like Snoop Dogg and Fabolous. You can choose from all of the NBA teams or play All Star games, like the 1990, 1991, and 1992 ones. You can create your own player and trade players on the team.

Pros-
Coolest basketball game ever
You can draft players with scouting staff, as they call it.
Only takes up 300 mb

Cons-
Pay extra for a game pad, which works better
They come out with a new one every year

After all the cons, NBALive2003 is the best NBA game on a pc you can play. So go ahead and buy one while it is cheap! Can't wait for the 2004 version with the drafted players.

Summary: I really liked this game
Review: I thought this game was really fun; for a while. It got a little boring after a while. One thing I didn't like about NBA Live 2003 was it didn't have some of the really cool featrues of NBA 2000. One good thing about this game is that it is very realitstic. As a huge NBA fan and a basketball player, I think would have a pretty good idea. The moves in this game a fantastic. That is one thing that I love about this game. I can make myself(in the create a player screen) and emulate my own crossovers and spins. I consider myself a pretty good basketball player averaging around 25 a game, so I think this game probably better for people who like basketball or are interested in basketball.

Summary: Disappointment - needs UPDATES
Review: If you happen to own one of the new ATI cards, the game wont work. So I gave it 1 star because EA sports should have fixed an issue like this before releasing a game.

My system:
Pentium 4 running Windows XP with an ATI 9700 PRO. It restarts the system every time I try to run the game.

I am disappointed because the game we release only a couple of days ago, and the ATI cards have been in the market for more than 3 months already, and it just doesn't run with it.

I cannot comment on anything game specific. I just wanted to warn people out there with new graphic cards.

Summary: Another step backwards
Review: Live 2000 was one of the best basketball games out there when it came out back in the day. 2001 was delayed for a long time and then when it finally arrived, it was extremely disappointing. 2002 was skipped completely for the PC and now its back for 2003. The graphics are awesome, by far the best the series has ever seen. It is the gameplay that is the problem. First problem I had was the fact that you cant configure all of your controls. You can map a key for a certain offensive move, say to shoot, but then there is a corresponding defensive move that is automatically mapped to that key as well, that cannot be changed w/o changing the offensive mapping. Basically you can only configure half of your controls and the rest you have to live with.
2nd main problem is the cameras. None of the cameras give a very good view of the whole floor during play and your perspective is always skewed in some fashion. Usually in the depth perception department.
3rd and most obvious is the ridiculous pace of the game. Its nothing but an all out dunkfest. Run off a few of the spin dribbles until you're within 15 feet of the basket and your man will go airborne for the slam or the layup. Dont get me wrong, this is really fun...for about 2 games. The true ballers will get bored very quickly and will be left yearning for some realism.
They added coaches on the sidelines which was totally worthless and most of the cut scenes are pretty corny as well.
The computer AI is much improved on the opposing teams as they now execute fast breaks, double teams etc. but your computer teammates refuse to play any defense besides occasionally sending a block all the way down to the other end of the floor. Emphasis on occasionally.
The franchise mode is still relatively solid and the soundtrack is pretty tight but the frustration of having to learn the buttons that are configured for you and the lack of help from your computer teammates is all in all agonizingly frustrating.
Im a big Live fan but my patience has all but run out. The focus of the game has unfortunately become focused on the "bells and whistles". (anyone remember 3 team trades in Live2001? That worked real well didnt it? At least they left it out this time) My opinion is don't buy it. The graphics are pretty but the gameplay is high on frustration and low on fun and realism. Maybe once the price is down around [$$$] it'll be worth it for some temporary entertainment, but even that may be pushing it a bit.

Summary: Rocks Baby
Review: Maybe 's just I ain't played an NBA Live game since the '01 version was out, but this game's just downright fun 24-7. It's got excellent graphics, the plaers do funny things(such's stealing the ball from the refere) the AI on 'n off the court is just great, and winning the championship 's much more fun than it used to be. The commentary's more accurate than it used to be and there're more features for the Create-a-Player setup.
The music sounds better for the averege age that plays this game. Instead of created players getting called by their numbers, you can give them nicknames which sound better than that #23 junk. They have one new mode of play, which is called practice, where you take one player and just play around with the player.
One of the best improvements made to this game are the dunks. Instead of doing all the regualar easy-to-do dunks, you can do 360's, double pumps, long tamahawks, and 360-around-the-back dunks, which are by far the coolest.
One minor flaw that the game has is that coaches clap when you foul the other team, and they get angry at the ref when you throw the ball out of bounds. Besides that, this is an outstanding game which I reccommend to all basketball game lovers.

Summary: Live is Good, not Great
Review: NBA Live 2000 was the best basketball game ever made for PC. Live 2001 was a total disappointment, and Live 2002 didn't even come out for PC. This game has many pros and cons.

Pros:
The graphics are awesome. The players actually look like themselves. They even have their armbands in the right places. The gameplay is smooth and not choppy.

The franchise mode is great, as usual. You can keep track of the deals that different teams make, you can see the MVP candidates for that year, and you can trade, sign, or release players. They have a yearly NBA Draft where they make up different rookies and tell you their strengths and weaknesses. I am also glad that you can switch your controlled team during the off season. I started controlling the Lakers, but they dropped to the bottom of the league after Shaq retired, so I switched my team.

I love the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's all-star teams. Except, where is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the 80's all-stars?

The cut scenes are not realistic, but they are very funny. I love it when someone on the bench sits in the coach's chair, and the coach get's mad at him.

Cons:
If you play a 12 minute game, it is rather easy to get up to 200 points. 5 or 6 minute games will get you 80-115 points.

It's just a big dunkfest. All you have to do is spin until you reach the free throw line, and dunk it from there.

The blocks and steals are crazy. Steve Nash is the leading blocker on my team. Shaq gets the most steals.

The AI is horrible. The defenders do the dumbest things, and your teammates don't play defense at all.

Overall, this is a good game to get.

Summary: Great game with minor flaws!
Review: NBA Live 2003 is an excellent game for those who are basketball fanatics like myself. However, the game has several flaws that some of you may find extremely annoying and very disappointing. First of all, the pace of the game is entirely too fast and explosive! Even in a simulated exhibition game played at the superstar level, the pace of the game is still much too fast. For example, if I miss a shot and the cpu gets the rebound, the opponent is down the court in a spit second scoring on the other end. This is a result of unrealistic passing in the game, which I find very annoying. The cpu explodes to the basket and throws too many alley-opps in my oppinion. Fast breaks are just lightning fast! If the pace of the game was like that of Live '01, then this game would have been just perfect. It's also hard to get a rebound in the game. It seems as though everytime I miss a shot, the cpu gets the rebound and scores on the other end at blazing speeds. How is that being realistic?

Shot blocking is another annoying, unrealistic factor in the game. Each time the cpu blocks your shot, the ball blows out out of bounce almost every time. Now that's just too outrageous wouldn't you think? Stealing the ball is fairly difficult as well. Check this out...When a player runs down the court with the ball, it looks like he is hump-backed. It's annoying because they don't run upright. The ball handler looks almost cunning like. The game also lacks good camera angles. I don't know why EA Sports chose not to include the popular "wire" angle in the game.

Other flaws I've discovered about Live 2003 is the lack of having a referee present throught an entire game. Coaches are included, so why not include a ref or two? Sadly to say, but Live 2003 is NOT user friendly like it's predecessor, Live 2001. There are no drop down menus to provide you with quick access to teams, game strategies, and other options. Everything is click, click, click until you get to where you want. This is very frustrating and time comsuming. Another frustating thing I've discovered is that when you turn the instant replay feature off, replays still show.

Nevertheless, dispite the flaws mentioned above, NBA Live 2003 still remains dominant in terms of graphics and overall gameplay. Player, crowd, and arena details are simply outstanding! If you are a fan of rap and R&B, you will enjoy the games' killer soundtrack. I personally enjoy the flawless in-game sound effects of Live '03. It's like being at an actual game because the crowd is always into the game, player cut sequences are frequent, and the commentary is steady and less repetative. If your system has a powerful graphics card, sound card, and speakers, I can assure you that your NBA Live 2003 experience will be one filled with excitement, tension, and non-stop, crunch time action! I highly recommend this product to any basketball fanatic.
