Summary: Am I missing something?
Review: After reading rave reviews for this game I was very eager to buy a copy and play it. Unfortunately I found the game did not live up to my expectations. I found Nox to be little more than a mouse "click fest". Much too linear and repetitive! In single player mode the protagonist is delivered to an area and the player clicks madly on their mouse until the area is completed. If you are looking for a CRPG I suggest you look at Planescape: Torment or wait for one of the upcoming offerings from Black Isle.

Summary: Loads of fun
Review: By now Nox is considered a pretty old game I'm sure, and it's long been discontinued by Westwood, sadly we probably won't ever see a sequel. I played it years ago and this review is an ode to the late nights I spent immersed in its gameworld, I haven't found a PC RPG to match it since. Let me tell you, journeying through this world and experiencing all its surprises is an awesome experience. It's got plenty of creatures and new environments so it stays fresh. Not to mention a great music soundtrack. I didn't usually sit down to play single-player games before Nox, it's just plain fun and addictive. Great for casual players and even people who don't normally like RPGs, because of its fun, action-oriented gameplay.

It's often compared to the Diablo series of games, and justifiably so, it borrows its premise from Diablo but is a vast improvement. Nox's gameplay and control mechanisms kick the crap out of both Diablo games to date. The downfall being the lack of cooperative multiplayer. Multiplayer is a 2-38 player deathmatch, which I had a lot of fun with, but it would be nice to adventure together with friends. They later released a cooperative add-on for free on the web but I never played it so I don't know how it matched up to the single-player experience.

Summary: Loads of fun
Review: By now Nox is considered a pretty old game I'm sure, and it's long been discontinued by Westwood. Sadly, it will probably never see a sequel, as this game is much deserving. It was years ago that I played it, I couldn't stop talking about it at the time, and while it's not the most original game around, I haven't since found a CRPG to match it for shear playability and fun. Let this review be an ode to the late nights I spent immersed in its gameworld.

The three playable character types: Warrior, Wizard, and Conjurer, are suitably unique and for each the game plays out differently, with different environments and quests, all eventually leading up to the same objective (why, destroying the evil sorceress, of course). Also, the fighting strategies you employ will differ quite a bit for each character. This offers some replay value as you'll want to replay the game as different characters to experience everything.

The environments and monsters are aplenty and diverse enough to keep things fresh. There's a great accompanying music soundtrack that helps create a nice mood moving from place to place.

Nox shines in an area that, far too often, mars my ability to enjoy many otherwise compelling RPGs: its fighting system. Combat in Nox is fast, furious, and immersive; helped by its intuitive gameplay controls. Movement works by holding down the right mouse button and moving the cursor in the direction you want to move--closer to the character to walk and father ahead to run--and the left button swings your weapon; this in addition to a combination of hotkeys on the keybord for accessing your spell attacks, monster summons, or special abilities. Unlike in the similarly styled Diablo (I/II) (which this game undoubtedly takes a lot of inspiration from) where you'll often stand in one place and watch your character hack away without visible effect, Nox is very involved; you've got to keep moving as taking hits can really hurt, you're even able to use your sheild (if you can wield one) to block attacks from your front. It's basically an action game with mouse control. A nicely designed system that was excecuted very well here and one I would like to see more PC games implement.

My biggest dissapointment with Nox is its lack of cooperative multiplayer. Its multiplayer component is a 2-38 player deathmatch, which I had a lot of fun with, but it would be nicer to adventure together with friends. The developers later released a cooperative multiplayer add-on for free on their website but I never played it so I don't know how it matched up to the single player experience.

Before playing Nox, I was more of a multiplayer exclusive guy and wouldn't usually find myself sitting down to traverse the lonely world of single player games. Nox really surprised me; it's just plain fun and addictive. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to casual players and people who don't normally like RPGs, because of its fast-paced, action-oriented gameplay and short learning curve.

Summary: don't expect much
Review: Electronic Arts simply isn't known for putting out good games of this type. Their money seems to be on sports games. Anyway, I got Nox at the bargain bin price. The game is solo action pseudo-rpg. Buy this game if you want to help Amazon out.

Summary: Nox is great
Review: First off this game is very, very, addicting. You'll find yourself playing, and playing for hours on end. If you want to buy an Action/RPG, this is the game to get. You would have to be crazy not to buy this title, It really is a piece of great game play right here. If you can't decide on what game to buy ,and later in the long run you decide to buy other titles that are the same Genre, then YOU'RE CRAZY! if you're going to buy a game that's fun,Addicting, and challenging, this is the Game to get. Stop reading this review and buy the dang thing. Because trust me you won't regret it.

Summary: "Better Wait...."
Review: I bought Nox since it looked decent, but was not happy with the game. The reasons are that it brings almost nothing new to RPGs, and does not have enough innovation to keep me playing. Sure it has dynamic lighting, but the pixels are as big as a ultralisks aft orifice. After playing the game for two months I could not understand why some many magazines gave such a average game tons of "above average" reviews. Totally linear gameplay combined with a pathetic disney sense of humour make this game a 'bring me back'. Considering the amount of time Westwood took to get Nox to the markets many people who bought the game will soon clear some surplus space of their hard drives since you will not get obsessed with it. Tough Luck Westwood...

Review: I bought the game knowing my computer covered all the requirements. But when I try to play, the game crashes. I sent the company, and by the looks of their technical support list, it has a lot of problems.

Summary: Good, but not a classic
Review: I bought this game while I was bored one evening. I went to my local best buy looking for something to hold my ever shortening attention span and I saw this on the shelf. For lack of something else I bought it and was happily supprised. It entertained me for a good three nights while I played it in the evenings with my shiny new Conjurer. The game play is sort of diablo-ish, but not quite as much of a dungeon crawl. Your scenery constantly changes as you wander on your quest to save nox (and get back home to your... trailer park?). I had a blast playing this game and was really eager to play it multi-player. Which horribly crushed me when I discovered it was only death-match (okay, okay, it has capture the flag too, but I still call that death-match). No co-operative play what-so-ever. This really killed the games re-playability in my eyes. It's a lot of fun winning the game solo, but I just can't bring myself to pick it up anymore, and i'm sorry, but these types of games just weren't ment for deathmatch.

All in all, a great single player game, but if you're looking for a lasting multiplayer experience, I'd go elsewhere.
