Review: GREAT GAME IF U LIKE TO FLY, GREAT ACTION, COOL TO PLAY

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: could be great,..... but.....
Review: Gunship was bought based on an old memory of mine about a DOS game called "Gunship2000". The remarkable thing about that game was simply the playability. I was hoping for the same in it's reincarnation. I was pleased, and at the same time dissapointed. The graphics are out of this world, and I love the feeling that it is a real world you are flying in. The sim itself is very arcade like tho in it's flying. The programmers made it very easy to fly, at the expense of realism. However, I might add, most helo sims are too hard for the average person to fly, so this one flys well, but they should have added true realism for those who want it turned on.- I doubt a real helicopter can absorb the punishment this one can. One glaring problem is the waypoint system- it doesn't work very well, and if you do manage to figure it out, you will see that it is the most clumsy thing about the game- The game is playable, but needs a patch VERY BADLY. Suggest you wait until things are fixed before buying into this one. The only reason I gave this a "3" is because of the "world" you fly in.- beautiful! I am able to live with the bugs just to wander around in this world.

hope this helps!

Summary: Stunning
Review: hey, wussup. just wanted to tell ya that this game is awesome.i own Gunship! for 2 years now and i love it. i ran this game on a piece of S#!t computer loaded with crappy celeron @ 1.7Ghz, 256 mb SDRAM, and a lot of real nasty stuff. but to tell you graphix ran like a bat outta hell. this all comes down to the fact that
Gunship! is able to run incredibly well on low powered "dinosaurs". WEll lets get to the game itself
The area of operations is most of the Europe.it is all filled with not photoreal but visually stunning scenery: trees, airfields, 3D buildings, water, and the most importantly the cities. ah there are also forests to hide in. talking of aircraft Quality it is visually amazing. helicopters are incredibly detailed. on the well powered machine you could probly see inside of the gun muzzle. weapon effects are amazing. there is bautiful muzzle flash, missile smoke, explosions. there are also AI enemy and friendly forces made up of jets, whirlybirds, ground forces and nicely animated 3D soldiers with weapons in their hands. enemy and frinedly tanks have rotating guns and posess nice recoil effects when firing. AI (artificial intelligency) is also well detailed.
When you get to the battle area get ready for possibly the most realistic Air to ground combat ever in desktop simulation. you fire @ bad guys and they fire @ you. get ready to dodge SAm's IR guided handheldmissile from ground troops, heavy artillery fire, and if you get hit make sure you planned a safe escape path or get ready to autorotate down to the ground with betty teling ya wot dont work. that once happened to me in a tiger helicopter.once i got down and crash landed a russian t-80 started circing around me. i waiter for him to stop moving then i aimed my damaged cannon and fired a long burst. ya know the rest.
The bottom line is Gunship! is the most realistic military flight sim i've ever used. i you dont already have it i strongly suggest you get a copy of Gunship!. trust me u wont be disappointed.
well i gotta go to work now. thanx for reading.

Summary: Definetly Worth A Look!
Review: I agree with alot of the complaints about this game: the Waypoint System is pretty cumbersome, your wingmen obviously graduated the bottom of their flight school class and the helicopters available to fly are sometimes above the law of physics. However, those complaints aside, this game is fun! The graphics are stunning - flying 100 knots barely above the trees is truly a stunning experience. Fly low enough and you can hear the leaves and branches slapping against your fuselage! The rockets and missle are impressive looking as they fly off your rails. You can damage a vehicle and watch it limp towards a hill or try and swivel is smoking turrent as you move in for a kill with a load of 30mm. Infantry will ditch their vehicles and run for the cover of the trees. If you loose them, watch out! Fly over that patch of forest where they are hiding and you'll be eating a SAM! I could fly reasonable well after a couple of hours. You can adjust the game to any experience level and can suit the game to any flying style you choose. I don't want to fly a "real helicopter". I want something in the middle - a game that is fun and a sim that is realistic but forgiving. Anyone who complains about the lacks of realism should go out and buy Flight Simulator 2000. Gunship is not perfect. But is fun and graphically stunning. I would definetly reccomend buying this game. (I haven't had a chance to play online with it yet....I'll check back with that review later!)

Summary: CUT IT SOME SLACK!!!
Review: I am amazed at the great amount of ignorance displayed in these reviews. I am a rated AH-64D Longbow Apache GUNSHIP pilot. With the exception of the Tactical Situation Display (TSD) waypoint system I am very impressed with the accuracy of this game. It is a peek into the world of a gunship crew. I am truely impressed with the way the CPG can use the TADS or the FCR to lock up and zoom in on TGTS in a fire and forget mode. Spot on match with the real thing. Firing on the move, rapid fire of RF missiles, and you even have to be aware of who you are firing at to prevent fratricide because just like the real thing the FCR does not differentiate between friend or foe. I can't believe that you can even call for ARTY support. MLRS (DPICM) or 155mm (HE), that is what it is really like to call for fire, impressive. Granted, there is no way this game can ever be 100% accurate. An example is the air to air mode which the apache has not and the fact that if you look into the pilot or CPG station to the lower left on the power lever quadrant, the power levers are in the off position all the time. However, if that is my only complaint BIG DEAL. I am still impressed!

Summary: No Way for WayPoint
Review: I believe I could have liked this game if I could only have figured out where the heck I was going and where the next (or even the first) target was. The WayPoint ruined this game for me. I'm taking it back tomorrow and trading for something else. Watch out for slick packaging, folks!

Summary: Is this a PC or Playstation?
Review: I have been very disappointed with this title. The "realistic" flight mode is a joke, you can do 140 knots while still on the ground.(I could go on ,but limited to 1000 words)There appear to be numerous bugs: from commands not working or no command options for needed tasics.(changing waypoints)Tech Support offers NO HELP! In fact tech support is nonexistant... The playability is no better than the Playstaion version, except for better graphics. I'm shocked this was released in its current condition. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY...ITS BAD!

Summary: Mike's Right! It IS pretty good!
Review: I picked up this game over a year ago. Played it on an PIII 800 with a so-so graphics card. Not too bad, but not too impressive, either. But, like everything else, it's all relative.

My friend Mike (the September 2002 reviewer) said it best when he titled his review "Cut it some slack". It's a game. It can't be 100% accurate, no matter how hard the developers try. Heck, we pay contractors to make multi-million dollar simulators for us to train in, and even those aren't perfect (but they're pretty close).
As far as an entertaining game/sim, you could do a lot worse. On a slightly faster machine with a better graphics card, I'd have to say this game really shines. Unfortunately, it's almost too easy in that the game is so forgiving when it comes to crashes/damage to the helicopters. If only they were that durable in real life.

By now, this game is in the dollar bin. Ripe for the pickin'.
