Summary: Well Worth The Wait!
Review: Baldur's Gate 2, Shadows of Amn is everything a role-playing game was meant to be! One of the best features is the ability to hide the user interfaces and play the game full-screen. The Baldur's Gate engine has always been very immersive, but with the interfaces hidden, the player is almost drawn into the world of The Forgotten Realms, it is almost like playing a movie! The game's non-linear style provides the player total freedom to interact with the world in whatever way seems fit. Combine this with a great storyline, much improved graphics and complete environmental surround sound and we are talking RPG gaming! Bottom line- pick this game up and say goodbye to work, friends, and that suddenly pathetic game called Diablo 2, and enter the world of Baldur's Gate II, Shadows of Amn. Swords for everyone!

Summary: This Is Simply The Greatest Roleplaying Game Ever Made!!!!!!
Review: Baldur's Gate 2 is not only the culmination of many hours of work put together by the current staff who developed the game but is the culmination of many years of hard work by a number of other companies and scores of other people. This is the game that was envisioned years ago when AD&D was originally introduced on the PC. What you have here is a true roleplaying game based upon AD&D the way it was supposed to be. It is so non-linear that it seems every choice you make will lead you in another direction. It seems that every alliance you form causes others to break. If your characters in your party don't like your actions they will let you know about it. Your characters have real backgrounds that affect the outcome of certain situations. There are numerous quests to pursue to improve your reputation. There are tons of magical weapons and such to purchase with your spoils of war. Some examples would include the scimitar and katana. The non-player-characters seem to have real goals in mind and throughout the first few chapters you seem just a pawn at their disposal performing various tasks. The villain is as sadistic as they come and the wonderful voice acting leads to a hatred of his evil ways. The icing on the cake is that you have access to numerous classes and races, as well as specialist classes like the wizard slayer and bounty hunter. You even have the opportunity to be the Lord of your own manor. For me, that is really a cool aspect. It is a really nice touch. The game plays smoothly at 800 * 600 resolution at 32 bit color and graphics are hardware accelerated at times with OpenGl compatible graphics cards. The sound is great in both music and sound effects. From the clash of steel to the scream of pain and the epic score you will be immersed in the world of Amn. Baldurs Gate 2 is what roleplaying should be and involves strategy. You need to have a balanced party and cannot hope to be victorious without a good balance of magic and steel at your disposal. Buy it now and good luck in completing the journey. If you create a new character, and can reduce his or her charisma to three, use the points left to bolster your other stats. Trust me, you can increase that charisma to 18 with an item that you find early in the game.

Summary: Please give my life back!!!
Review: Eeeee. I bought BG2 on Friday, Sep 22. From that day to this, all I was doing is playing this game. I got a "zero" in one of my projects 'cause I was fighting evil monsters instead of doing the project. :) Cavaliers do not need C programming, right? To get back to the game, it is the best!!! The graphics, the story, the battle system, the environment, all too good to be true. Even the music and voice acting are intriguing. If you think there is no such thing as a perfect game, wait until you've played this game. (It does have a lot of memory leaks though). I recommend that you get the Versus guide book 'cause the number of quests in the game might overwhelm you; you need the book to know which one is optional and which one is required. Now, let me go finish that darn game so that I could get my normal life back. (Minsc and Boo! Rangers and hamsters everywhere. Rejoice!)

Summary: incredibly, they made it even better
Review: If you're new to Baldur's Gate and the Bioware Infinity engine, you have many hours of great gaming in front of you. This game is for all those of us who played D&D growing up and who would like to play it with all the advantages a computer can offer. The first Baldur's Gate was superb, and Icewind Dale was great but linear. Now we get a longer adventure that has truly incorporated many of the lessons of both earlier games.

Graphics are that type of gorgeous that helps one to suspend disbelief and become immersed. The characters are familiar to Baldur's Gate players, but they have been tremendously fleshed out: I won't spoil any surprises except to say that some of the best loved BG NPCs are back, with even more opinions and personality and dialogue. You can import your characters from BG and Tales of the Sword Coast (the expansion) but not from Icewind Dale that I know of. Baldur's Gate just *felt* great, as did Icewind Dale; BG2:SOA feels even better.

A lot of attention has been paid in advance to video and sound hardware compatility; we have more tweaks available than ever before to enable the game to run smoothly on as many machines as possible. I have a P3-600 with 256MB and a Geforce, but I suspect it could be gotten to run on much less powerful systems thanks to the tweaks and accompanying instructions. Hasn't crashed on me yet, either. Not only is 800x600 support included, but there are options (clearly listed as unsupported) for higher resolutions still, if people want to take their chances. (Refreshing to be treated as adults in this way. "Sorry, you'd just screw that up, so we'll comment the code out" is far less appealing than "We did a lot of work on this, but didn't fully test or advertise it; if you feel up to revving up your display, be our guest".

Want a whole bunch of immersive gameplay at higher levels than BG? Get this. You know you want to.

Summary: Finally an RPG that does it all right!
Review: Baldur's Gate 2 is the new gold standard by which all RPGs will be measured for years to come. It is the perfect balance of story, characterization, action, environmental mood, all of the elements of a great game are here. But be warned! This game is very difficult, and should only be attempted by hardcore RPG gamers. I hate people who knock RPGs, (I was once one myself until Baldur's Gate 1 came out) The best this here in my mind are the characters. You only create one character, the leader. The rest are put into the game, and you must find them. The really neat idea about this game is that the character talk to each other as the game goes on, providing you with very interesting views of their personalities. Never has this been accomplished so well, not even in Final Fantasy games. The mood of this game is a very dark one. The story is centered around a creepy, evil, and seemingly all powerful mage named Irenicus attempting to control your character by manipulating, and even murdering, your companions. There has never been a more threatening enemy in my mind. One of the great new features is that characters can use two weapons at once now, just like good old Drizzt. Our favorite drow even makes a guest appearence in this massive adventure. The replay value may not be that high, but with a game that takes 200-300 hours to beat? Who cares!

Summary: THE greatest
Review: The first Baldur's Gate set a new level in computer RPGs and the sequel blows it away. The storyline draws you in from the beginning and the action is almost non-stop thanks to a wonderful sense of urgency. With the higher character levels and class specific quests, not to mention the spectrum of alignments, the game will be different every time it is played. Buy this game now!

Summary: great game, but...
Review: Although Interplay/Bioware/Black Isle has definitely produced the greatest D&D game EVER, my experience with BGII has not been stellar thus far. I've had a number of problems with the game, from not being able to install it, to random crashes within 15 minutes of starting to play. Historically, my system has been very stable, so I guess I'll have to wait for the patch. Too bad, because the game looks like a true phenomenon in the RPG genre.

Summary: The Best of the Best
Review: Well although I have not played this game I know how awesome its going to be. Finally a game that has plot setting, even a climax. There will be so many different quests to do that you probably wont even do them all, yet even encounter them all. I have played BG 1, Fallout, and Fallout 2. I really enjoyed all these games. If Baldurs Gate 2 is better then all those it is definately the best game of all time. I thought it couldn't get better than Baldurs Gate 1. Now with Baldurs Gate 2 out with even better qualitys then 1, it will surely please all of you who buy it.

Summary: Baldur's Gate2 seems really nice
Review: As a owner of DiabloII one of the greatest hack and slash games, I must say I wanted more feeling that I am really in the game. I always tried doing like I'm going to a bar in act2, but no one talks back to me :( I think that as soon as this game comes out I will buy it. Will I be able to talk to people?!
