Rating: Summary: Quit your griping and play! Review: I notice many previous reviewers saying that the AI is terrible, the map's no good, the load times are too long, it's full of bugs and crashes constantly. I must ask: What game are you playing? As far as the "bugs and crashes" go, I've experienced no bugs, and have crashed twice in over 20 hours of time running the program. Load times? I'm on a P133, well below the minimum requirement, so I expect them to be long. Even taking that into account, I don't feel they're very long at all. The map: vast improvement over the original. I don't like the lack of an exploring option, but I can see the reasoning behind it. I DO like the fact that once the map is updated, you can immediately go to the spot you want instead of having to explore thru 2-3 other map portions in the first place. Party AI is pointless to me as I turn it off and micromanage. Pathfinding AI is adequate. Monster AI is your typical "rush straight in" type. No plus or minus there. For my style of play, I find the game wholly enjoyable. If you play games to have fun, like the RPG genre, and know that computers (regardless of how top of the line they may be) still have limitations and take time to load things, I believe you will have TONS of fun with this game. If you expect everything to be instantaneous and perfect, you will be disappointed, in this and all things. Me, I choose to have fun with this incredible 5 star game!
Rating: Summary: Supreme AD&D experience Review: If you liked the first one you will love the second! It's like the firts one, except enhanced to the extreame. More spells than you can immagine, really cool new charecter classes. This game is a must for any ad&d fan.
Rating: Summary: Where to start? Review: Quite simply the best game ever. EVER! Nothing else even comes close. The artwork is superb, the gameplay enthralling, sound enchanting and characters exciting (couldn't help the aliteration there). There is nothing to fault this game on, except for the fact that it totally consumes your life. Do NOT begin playing this the night before an exam, on a school-day or in your lunch hour. There are well over 100 real time hours of gameplay if you play it properly. I have spent in excess of 150 hours, investigating sub-quests, talking to NPC's etc. If you played Baldur's Gate, you will have no problem grasping BG2. If not, the tutorial and in-game help are very useful. For those that haven't played Baldur's Gate before, you will be amazed at the depth of the graphics, sound, gameplay and converstions with NPC's. If you did play BG1, your mind will be blown away by the improvements over the original. Finally, if you get the chance - buy the collector's edition.
Rating: Summary: Disapointed Review: I was very disapointed with the scenery in BG2.The map is too modern looking over the old world style map in BG1.There arent as many places to go,and it takes forever to load when you go to a site on the map.And I thought there were supposed to be improvements over BG1?The character movements are too slow.It takes too long to swing the sword and cast spells. In IWD and BG1,it was much faster, and the character sizes were a tad larger.I think the enemy has a slight advantage in combat due to this mishap. It also lags while walking.I just hope BG3 and the sequel to IWD is much better. As of now, there is nothing from Black Isle for me to look forward too.
Rating: Summary: Overall terrible game Review: Here is the deal people, the game plot is good, very good, but it all rolls down hill from there. First of all if you buy this game, save and save a lot (thank god for the quick save option), because you will, I repeat will experience crashes, any where from everyonce in a while to quite frequently. You will also experience several glitches and bugs, some that will keep you from being able to kill the bad guy John Irenicus. Don't rely on Interplay or Black Isle for help...... their idea of customer service is and always has been... release the game and leave the customer behind because once they buy it, we have our money. The game got boring after a couple days of playing because it was basically the same stuff all the time, run into an NPC he/she has a problem, you go hack and slash your way through hordes of bad guys to solve it, no real problem solving involved. They did very little to fix the AI from Baldurs Gate 1, but they did come up with "way points", that is if you feel like taking the time to lay them out AND know what is ahead of you through the Fog of War. They boasted that the game was going to be more acceptable of 'Evil' characters, but it really isn't, all of your NPC's in your party will be mostly "lawful good or chaotic good" except for one Mage that you can get and the two druids who are nuetral (but they act more good than true nuetral)and Viconia, and they will leave you at the first sign of you "evil ways", that's right, you can't go clear whole city blocks of citizens and expect to have a party left with you. Bottom line, the game is terrible, it seems like interplay rushed the game out about four of five months too soon. Oh and if you have a problem at the final battle and can't seem to kill John Irenicus, find out wich party member isn't talking remove them from your party, and then ask them to rejoin, interplay made me find that out on my own, quality service I tell ya.
Rating: Summary: diablo 2 or this? Review: Wow. I thought I was addicted to Diablo 2. Then I found this game. Not recommended for those with responsibilities :P
Rating: Summary: Fun RPG, but lag and bad game control ruined it. Review: Before I begin, let me tell you that I have a decent PC. I can run Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Quake1,2,3, Kingpin, Mechwarrior1,2, Diablo2, and Starcaft PERFECTLY. Now here is what I think of BG2: Advantages: Good variety of characters. Good variety of maps. Great interaction-NPCs, allies, enemies. Good variety of stories and possible paths to chose from. You can be a good OR evil hero; it's cool. Disadvantages: Laggy game play: movement of screen, characters; even the interface needs loading EVERY single click. Bad control of game: The hot spots are so hard to target; you have to click on them perfectly. For example, to leave a town you have to click on the exit hotspot, but it is hard to find with the mouse since the hotspot is so small and seems to have been placed randomely anywhere near where the map claimed it was. Bad fighting action: eg. the players exchange blows every 3 seconds or more. No cool cutscenes (no 3D animation to please the eyes). The characters take forever to walk from destination to destination. There is no run mode like Diablo2. The only reason I gave this game a passing grade is because of the RPG aspect of it. The companies did a great job at making the stories creative and rich. Although the RPG aspect of Diablo2 is lesser, its control and action is 10 times better than BG2, and not to mention it doesn't have the lag problems that BG2 does. If you want to get this game, please go to a friend's house (or wherever) and see it for yourself first. You can see my initial concerns of lag at bg2world.com....
Rating: Summary: RPG perfection as close as it can get Review: This game is a master piece. This game combindeds skill, a story, real options, and great fighting. First lets analize skill, this game has trick questions, who to trust, who to add to your party, and where to go. This game is not like daiblo 2 in that it is just you verse the world and sometimes a worthless hired hand. In this game you have up to 6 people under your total conrol. In compairing this game to Daiblo 2 this is where Daiblo 2 is up to snuff. This game his a more interactive story lines but the seens arn't quite like D2's movies. In this game you are the son child of baul the god of muarder. Baul forsaw his own death and had alot of children to make sure he could return. IN Baulders Gate 1 you killed your brother to stop Bauls return. Here you have to decide what quest to do, where to go, compaired to daiblo 2's no real options, witch brings me to my next point. Real options, will you chariter be good and hero of realms or become a underworld lord and use you evil power to punish all who opposes you. You have a repuation that will take into effect how other people react to you. The one negitive is it hard to be truly evel because gaurd start attcking you. The fighting is great because it is more than hack and slash. use spell and wand to complment your fighters pure strenth. This game is a must have for all RPG players.
Rating: Summary: Whats so great about this? Review: This is not Art or Philosophy, or anything close. What it is is a 200 mind-numbing hours long sequel to a traditional, dyed-in-the-wool RPG thats intensely boring. Fighting? yeah its there, but it starts to pale after the first 30 hrs. I'd rather play D2 5 times with different characters on Bnet. This game is just crap.
Rating: Summary: Excelent Game Review: This Game is deffently worth getting but like all things it could use some improvement. The story line, voices in the game, and graphics are grate but I still find it hard to forget that am still playing a game. I know that is what it is but I'm still looking for that game that is so relistic that I forget it is a game (as we all are). At any rate its well worth the mony and you will get a lot of play time out of it ( I mean alot). The only resion I didn't give it 5 stars is cuz it would have to be perfect and little is.
