Rating: Summary: Great game, although I was a disappointed... Review: First, I must say - I'm not what you call a "hard core" computer gamer - I like to play a cool game every now and then but each of these games takes me months to finish. I love the RPG genre - I've been playing those for ages, and Planescape Torment was the best game I ever played (and my first review here), so I had pretty high expectations for Baldur's gate II. I didn't play the first game - it was said it's not necessary and I agree with this claim. So why am I giving the game 3 stars? Well, there were plenty of good things about the game - an *unbelievable* amount of spells - up to level 9, good graphics, very cool story - I love the premise of the series. But the game itself is nothing new.. everything I did I kind of felt "been there done that", the same quests over and over again.. I didn't even enjoy most of the combats after a while, constantly having to reload the game. Also, each character had a set of sentences it kept shouting every 40-60 seconds (how many times must I hear "Butt kicking - for goodness"???) .. it started to drive me crazy after a while, until I completely turned off the speakers. (Maybe there is a way to disable this, I couldn't find an obvious way, at least) And last, the game is just too long. I know it's supposed to be a good thing - it is, actually - that's one of the things which originally drew me - but since the quests are so repetitive I really got tired of the game - I think it would've been better if it was a bit shorter. To summarize - I think BG2 is a really cool game, and would recommend to anyone who just can't get enough of gaming. But if you have a rather limited time like me, and you only have a certain amount of patience for this - you can skip this game (go to Torment, perhaps, which was much better in my opinion). I know I'm not going to get the expansion, as much as I'm curious how the story ends.
Rating: Summary: So Worth It! Review: I bought this game in hopes to measure up to BG1. When I saw the price I thought,"...! geez it's not worth it!" but after I russled up enough money to buy it, I did and played it constantly. It follows thae same basic guidelines as BG1 while going by AD&D 3rd Edition Rules. There is a horendous amount of new and sometimes wierd items. Also, there is a plethora of new and improved monsters throughout the huge and well displayed world of BG2. Like I said, this game is SO worth the money. I recomend it to any RPG-er whether new or old, whether you liked BG1 or not. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment Review: I thought Baldur's Gate 2 is a wonderfull game.It offers you many choices to play the game differently. You can be the good hero, the knight in shnning armore saving the peasants and doing good all around,or you could very well be the evil child of the God of Murder....killing and rampaging everything in your path, shoving people along so they do your bidding. This game has it all, intense battles, awesome magical powers that can tunr the tide of a battle in one second and make you have to rethink your whole strategy and come up with another as the battle is evolving in front of you.The story is also fully imersive. It makes you dislike some chracters. The only downside to this game is that certain quests are hard to do since the information that guides you along is foggy. But it just adds a toughness to the game. All in all,it is a great game.
Rating: Summary: Great game with very minor flaws. Review: I'm going to keep this review short and simple. BG2 is awesome. The gameplay is perfect, the graphics are gorgeous, and the sound is amazing. The only reason I am giving it four stars is because some people (not me) may become impatient with the game's pace, like pausing in the middle of battles. It also may be too hard for people not used to the BioWare engine. So maybe it should be 4 and 5 stars *shrug*. For people used to this type of game, it is amazingly good. I also reccomend: Icewind Dale...EverQuest...Swirling Mist...Baldur's Gate...
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining Review: This game is great. It has all the elements that a good RPG game can have and it's very challenging. At least 60 hours of play or more.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS GAME Review: If you are not sure to buy this game, BUY IT NOW. I got into the whole Baldur's gate thing by mistake, but this is an excellent game. The first one was great, especially with the expansion pack, but Bioware and Black Isle (makers of Fallout1/2, another great game) just improved on the original. The storyline is very interactive and engrossing, the graphics are very good, the voice acting is some of the best I have heard, and the gameplay is great. I am actually playing the game through right now for the second time, and it is still just as fun. My only real complaint is not about the game, but about bioware... they need to pick one release date for the expansion pack, and stick to it! Overall, this game and pretty much anything by Bioware or Black Isle are great games, and I personally can't wait for Neverwinter Nights to come out.
Rating: Summary: OH. MY. GOD. Review: BG2 is, by far, the best RPG I have ever played, and I've played quite a few. I am tempted to say it is the best computer game I have ever played, and I've been playing since the glory days of Atari. It's only downside is that it is too good. The temptation is strong once you start playing to renounce all other activity in favor of more BG2. Thank god Throne of Bhaal will be coming out before law school starts up in August, otherwise I might forget to go to class for a month. The development team seems to understand my pain, however. The game reminds you every once in a while to eat and sleep. Sometimes that advice came in handy.
Rating: Summary: Another title in a great RPG saga Review: Its easy to say that Baldur's Gate II is a good game, but its more than that. If you take it for what it was designed to be, an actual D&D campaign/adventure that you control, simply with a graphical interface, its a great game. Expanding on its original award winning title Baldur's Gate, BG2 finds your original character from BG hanging in a cage in an unknown dungeon. The action is non-stop from there, following the character along (possibly) hundreds of hours of gameplay. As the player, you control almost every decision made in the game. You can explore dozens of sub-quests, or keep to the campaign itself, varying the time it takes to complete the game from around 20 hours to hundreds. There are a wealth of new NPCs to have in your group, and some can reach up to 20th level in the game. The map-style adventuring (as I liked to call it) from the original BG is somewhat different. Where before you had to explore each section of, for example, forest before you could reach a new town, you now travel directly to that town, hence the games 4 discs versus BG's 5. But each town is so detailed and contains so many subquests that you'll quickly forget forest exploration. A lot of people I've talked with couldn't "get into" the Baldur's Gate games because of the interface, the click and go real-time control seemed to turn them off. I, however, really love it, being able to quickly pause the action, delegate actions to your party, then unpause and return to the action, which is almost exactly how it works in a real D&D game, where players would decide what they want to do, and then the combat ensues. This game is quite possibly one of the greatest RPG games ever made, and is so detailed in its scope (exploring legends in the Forgotten Realms game setting) that you'll appreciate the time Bioware and Black Isle spent on it. Until Neverwinter Nights is released in the future, the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale lines use the perfect engine for an RPG; their Infinity engine is nearly flawless in how it plays the game out. If you buy one RPG before Neverwinter Nights, let it be this one.
Rating: Summary: This is Definetly a Classic Review: Baldurs Gate 2 Shadows of Amn is an amazing role playing game that has action packed fighting while mentaining a plot that is so involving and deep that you will be glooed to your chair. Personally I have always loved FPS and not really ever been into RPG'S. I bought this game because I wanted to expand my pc game taste and try new things. At first the game was rather challenging, but once I got into it, I almost never stopped playing. The spell effects and backrounds for each level are magnificent, but the characters lacked the detail and 3D acceleration of the spells and backrounds. The actual gameplay of this game is shear briliant. The pause and chose your strategy method is amazingly fun, but complex at the same time. I have to note that the sound in BG2 is literally perfect. The music and voice acting is above top notch for a PC or Console game. With the music adding to your experience you will find that this 200+ hour RPG is an amazing game. Weather you usually like RPG's or not, I strongly recommend this game.
Rating: Summary: The original was better, but this is decent. Review: The graphics are much better than the first Baldur's Gate. The character creation is more in depth and offers more variety. The game is harder and takes a lot longer to complete. It offers several hours of playing time. I am giving this game 3 stars because I get sick of all the dialogue. If I wanted to read I would buy a book. I wish there was more action and less dialogue. Plus, the dream sequences got annoying real fast. However, that is the only thing I don't like about this game. The reason I say the original was better is that you could take your party into the woods and spend hours hunting down beasts and gaining experience. You didn't have to navigate through a cluttered city to accomplish a task right out of the gate. There was not as much dialogue and the game play was faster. However, this game is still solid. What I do like is that the graphics rock. The game plays very easily, just remember to pause a lot to issue battle commands. There is a vast number of quests that you can embark on. There is a great amount of replayability in that you can play through once doing certain quests as a noble hero and play a second time doing other quests as an evil villain. Have fun with this game and insult your party members if they get annoying. You can adjust their feedback levels if you get sick of their mouths, something I recommend doing. This is a great game, and I don't believe giving stars to games can accurately predict their value. I will instead place the maximum price I believe the game is worth.
