Summary: For this Price..Don't Even Hesitate
Review: This is one of the BEST games ever made. It is in my Top 3 Overall for PC Games, and I've played just about every new First Person Shooter in the past year or so. Here's why:

The Graphics: Amazing...so real, from the sun glaring over the mountain tops, to the grass blowing in the wind on the open fields, just awesome. The night mission goggles are a treat, and the sniper view is top notch. It's as real as it gets.

The Sound: If you crank the sound up and don't feel like your on the battlefield, your missing something. The gun shots, enemies talking in another language, footsteps on wood floors..nature sounds, walking in water..its ALL THERE.

Game Play: AWESOME weapons. Enemies will get you. They rarely stand there to be shot. Ofcourse SOME do, but in general your gonna have to keep quick saving! I personally liked the AI. People will always complain, but if you turn up the difficulty you won't be saying its too easy anymore, trust me.

The Controls: I made a little notecard to put in front of the keyboard while I was learning the keys, and it got very easy very quick. The mouse controls your eye-view, and shooting.
Overall the controls are well done.

The Missions and Story: You'll get into it. The missions are cool, and follow a nice pattern. You'll find yourself playing for hours because each mission is set in a distinct area...mountains, swamps, and so on. Your a special operations marine is essense, sneaking up and taking the bad guys out. Sound fun? It is!

Not to insult anyoe on here, but someone in a spotlight review wrote that the graphics were NO good. Check his system. A Geforce 2 MX on a PIII couldn't run SWAT 1 at full settings with any success. You need framerates to see the great graphics, and those come from a solid processor (Pentium 4 ) and a solid graphics card (geforce 3 and above). THEN you'll see what I really mean. As with MOST of these games, they require alot more than what is reccomended to see the FULL results. If you don't mind not seeing full results, thats cool too, just know why!

Take Care.

Summary: Realism And Authenticity Make this One a Winner
Review: In the Past I have never really had a first person shooter Pc game. The only game I had in which I shot at anything was Medal of Honor (for Playstation). This on added the extra Feature of being able to switch from one team member to the other. This and the very realistic graphics made this one in a video game league of its own.

Review: When ghost recon came out they said Tom Clancy was going for a more tactical type game. I immediately invisioned myself leading a big, maybe even huge, team of soldiers. Instead I got a game pretty much like the old, and originally fun but now boring, Rainbow Six games. It's exactly like Rainbow six escept outdoors and with less soldiers and less choice of equipment. You have three teams. Alpha team can have 3 soldiers on it, Bravo 2, and Charlie only 1. Making it very like the Rainbow Six games except worse. The good points are the good graphics of the soldiers however. Thier guns are very well put together graphicaly, and the suits for the snipers have nice camoflauge aspects to them. The scenery is rather nice too, very realistic are the trees and bushes and sound effects and such. However, putting on night vision turns the scenery a bit too game-like. It falls short in terms of weapon realism too. There is no kick (Recoil) for any of the weapons, making it very much like a poorly designed FPS game. The scenarios are nicely designed. with realistic objectives and good maps. However with the small team you have these maps are more of a curse then a blessing. Multiplayer on these maps is much, MUCH, more fun. Another thing I wish they'd implemented was the ability to play as a regular soldier. Not having to command anyone or anything, just to follow along with the mission plan. Having to monitor everyone and move them along with you took a big fun factor out of the game. The Firefight single mission types and such did keep the game going for me when I got bored of the regular campaign though.

Upside:
Good scenery, player models, and gun graphics. Several different single player game types. Good mulitplayer action.

Downside:
Not too realistic, no recoil with weapons etc.
Can only take six soldiers max on a mission. Always the leader, can't ever be a grunt. Limited equipment selection.

Summary: RPG'er Converted to Clancy
Review: I have to admit that the only kind of game I have ever really enjoyed for PC is the RPG genre-Bladur's Gate, Morrowind-you know them. The storylines and tepid action of most other games I've played for PC have left me flat.

But then I get a computer with a Ghost Recon demo on it... along with a Dungeon Seige demo. And I have to say--forget Dungeon Seige -- I want to play the Ghost Recon Demo mission over and over again! (Recruit to Elite levels)

All the technical beauties of this game aside, the one thing that gets me into this game fully is how real it seems. It is a A++ on the intensity scale. I have a real, healthy fear of the enemy while playing this game, and a real sense of regret over any lost man. I also appreciate the strategy aspect of this game, how stealth and position gives the advantage.

The only drawback: This game is so good I have to break down now and buy the full version!

Summary: Realistic? Ha!
Review: I'm not trying to start an OFP-GR flame war or anything, but I really am totally unimpressed with GR. The AI is awful (you either run into Supermen with lightning-quick reflexes or parapalegic blind gunmen). Friendly AI thinks that standing up in firefights is a good idea. The missions take place in extremly close-quartered areas (you are almost always trapped in a canyon-like environment with very high walls on everyside, and even then you'll get mini-canyons to move in). Your tactical skills are not put to good use, just your reflexes. The missions are uninspired, though professionally written and voice acted.

The only things that Ghost Recon has that Operation Flashpoint doesn't is good soldier models and textures (OFP is notorious for mini-kevlar helmets), realistic combat loads for soldiers and higher terrain detail (a benefit of having such limited terrain in the first place - you can make it look prettier).

Overall, GR is a nice looking game (NOT a simulation) that will satisfy the people who want an arcade shoot 'em up. Look to Operation Flashpoint for a more cerebral, if not quite as glitzy tactical simulation (yes, it is a SIMULATION, not a game).

And, by the way, YES, I served as an infantryman for six years and YES, I did serve in a combat zone.

Summary: Ya, just read the review ok
Review: Trust me, this game is the best tactical shooter EVER. Not that I am a big fan of tactical shooters: I think that alot could be done with all the Tom Clancey games. Like more in-game scripted moments and the taking out the fact that every mission goes just the way it was planned. But with the absents of scripted moments, you get to make your own, which I have to say, is INCREDIBLY fun. Nothing is better than to infiltrate a base with a sniper, get him in position on a high post. Command a heavy assault guy to infiltrate the base and give him cover fire with your sniper while he runs to the target. Or sending in alpha squadron to rescue POWS, but all except one of your guys dies, and that guy is pinned down. So you call in bravo squadron to rescue that guy and he lives to see another day (but he is wounded severly, he got shot in the arm and the leg). I only gave it a 4 because the game isnt as hectic as that all the time: some missions are not that great. The ending mission is just like all the others. The worse thing about this game is friendly AI, the enemy AI is the best I've ever seen, but the friendly AI, is not that good. Sometimes it is good but most of that time it isnt, but that doesnt do as much damage as you might think. It is still a fun, enjoying experience I recommend to anybody who likes this genre.

Summary: REALISM
Review: I'm a retired Military Soldier
I've played not with this game but another Tom Clancy's
ghost Recon game, and I really enjoyed the missions.
and I've also read one of his books "sniper".
But like I mentioned it's only a game,of team work, & leadership.
You are allow to make mistakes in the game it's okay, but not in
real life. I'm planning to buy more Tom Clancy's Recon games in the near future. " I really enjoy the games"

One more thing keep in mind it only a game and enjoy it but distinguish between what's real and what is not.

Summary: Lock and load, this one's here to stay!
Review: After reading on how people with over 1.0 ghtz machines were crying about how things moved so slow, I had to drop my quarter into the bucket. I'm running a P3 800, 256 RDRAM, a geforce 2 video card with 32 meg DDR RAM. My settings are in the medium and I've only come across one multiplayer level to where a LOT of enemies coming at us (3 players total) and then it bogged down. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with the game.
I LOVE this game and the multiplayer matches that we have in our computer group is a non-stop rush!!!

Summary: Good game, but had major problem with it
Review: I could only play a few levels. Once I got up to the mission with the tanks, my frame rate went right out the window. Simply unplayable. I run a ATI Radeon 8500 with64 Megs RAM on a 1.5 Intel P4 system, 256 Megs of system RAM. Simply no excuse why at any resolution I could not get a good frame rate. Went out, got all the latest and greatest drivers, no good. I bumped everything down, even the res to 800x600 16 bit colour, still no good. I turned down details, and eventually, it just got ot the point where I lost interest in it. However, I did play the missions I could over and over again, until I could run them in my sleep.
If you are lucky enough NOT to have problems with it, this game is outstanding. However, if you end up like me, where you can just tell the computer is thinking far too much between draws, it's good right up until the point of failure.
Later note: Driver updates and patches fixed the slow frame-rate issue. The game is an outstanding title and I moved the 4 star rating up to a 5 star as now it plays properly and plays better than I had hoped.
