Summary: Best Multiplayer FPS out Today
Review: This is the best Multiplayer FPS I can find out today. MOA is great, but a bit slow, and players move in strange ways. SOF2 with it's recent patches is such a clean multiplayer game, it reminds me of where CS was about 2 years back. And once I loaded the multiplayer SOF2, I took CS off my system within 30 days- It's that much better. Go buy it, so you can play online, and you will understand...

Summary: pretty good but not great
Review: SOF, released in 2000, was an extremely gory and violent shooter with no pretense at strategy or tactics. It was simply an extemely violent game with great graphics (for its time). Now there is a sequel. I think perhaps they've added a bit too much to this one. It's just as gory and violent, even more so, but now there are a number of "stealth" missions in which your character must sneak into a mansion, onto a train, onto a boat etc. without being seen. The enemy AI is pretty good, so you almost always get spotted, which sets off an alarm. The guide book has cheat codes that allow you to skip these missions, which become annoying very quickly.

The combat missions however are great, very fast paced and violent. The only drawback is that enemies are rather stationary and tend to stay in a limited area. Sometimes they'll come into the next room but will rarely follow you very far. If you kill all enemies in an area, you usually can take time to look for more ammo or weapons or med kits. The cut scene animations are OK but take up a LOT of space on your hard drive.

All in all, I enjoyed this game. If you are new to SOF, I recommend buying the first game.

Summary: A worthy successor with a few bugs
Review: This is a challenging FPS that is well worth the money. At the higher difficulty levels ("consultant" or above), it gives many hours of challenging gameplay. As other gamers have mentioned, the Q3 engine is getting somewhat dated, but it's still a good bit better than SOF1 (Q2 engine). Other gamers have also mentioned that the "bots" seem to have an uncanny ability to accurately throw grenades, see through cover, etc. This is what its all about! You're the one with the unlimited lives who can always try again. They've got to have some advantages to give you a decent game. The game is very linear: You're given objectives which you must meet. There are no "secret places" to find or ridiculous puzzles to solve. I especially liked the "custom" level which allows you to change specific aspects (i.e. five saves instead of only three, how much you can carry, etc.). Admittedly the default gore is a bit over the top, but this can be adjusted along with about every other aspect of the game (i.e. amount of brass, decals, length of time bodies are shown, etc.) The only problems I found were some really annoying bugs. Like certain bots who were able to shoot through steel doors in some places and in others were able to shoot through solid cover (I couldn't believe my armor and health were dropping as I was being shot at through a concrete post!). Worst of all is an area in the last level which apparently isn't designed properly. Instead of a barricade or something to prevent you from going into the wrong area, you simply get shot "dead" out of thin air. Very annoying. The dialogue and story are about on the same level as most games of this type. Cheesy as hell, but who cares? All in all, this is a fine game that I thoroughly enjoyed. The excellent multiplayer component (also adapted from Q3) is simply icing on the cake. If you're an FPS fan, this is a must have.

Summary: A good game.
Review: I personally think this game is worth what you pay, others of course beleive that this is game is to "simple" and that the weapons you can carry is quite insane... If you beleive it is to simple change the difficulty to harder setting. If it to hard you can go into the custom settings and change what you need to help you beat the game. This game also has the "random mission generator" which you can pick what type of mission you like to play, assasination, demolition, Etc, which can random with each new "seed" Numbers unlike the original sof. Soldier of Fortune also has multiplayer option to play with other people "deathmatch" over the net. With a wide variety of player skins. Last but not least the gore is quite more realistic than the Orginal Sof. I enjoyed this game alot. If you like intense action I would strongly recommend this game.

Summary: Soldier of Fortune II : Double Helix
Review: Soldier of Fortune II : Double Helix is a fps set in the real world. You play John Mullins, a black-ops soldier taking on an evil organisation which tries to spread a deadly virus. The game takes place in different parts of the world from dense colombian forest, snowlands, a ship, an aeroplane ect. The multiplayer gameplay is great and fun online but the single player gameplay is dull with poor level design and dumb enemy ai. The game is very hard because the enemies are very strong and the hero takes a lot of damage in a single shot. The game seem to cheat a bit, i dont know how the alarm goes on in the stealth missions and some enemies seems to be in god mode like the snippers in the first mansion level. The hero also keep of playing with his weapon, like he throws his shotgun in the air and catches it which makes me very angry. The random mission generator is boring and unplayable because it does allow save games. Sof2 is built on the quake3 engine, i played it on the OpenGL video mode and it runs great. The graphics and sound are great, the swimming pool in the mansion level is very beautifull, but most of the game is brown in color. The load times are very long and unlike other q3a games like rtcw and mohaa the quick loading is not instant. Sof1 was a great game and i have even played the game till late night, this one does not even come close, It is very boring and dull. Soldier of Fortune II's single player is disappointing but the multiplayer is good.

Summary: This was SUPRISINLGY good...until...:
Review: I agree with virtually everything va_dave wrote in his review, but nonetheless I came away with an overall sense of having enjoyed myself. For a while. I liked the single-player mode enough to finish it. It reminds me a lot of Deus Ex (in part because of the voice-over actors.) I wish they would have included Deus Ex's weapon carrying limit. On one hand they try to emulate realisim with super-graphic violence, but then they let players carry fourteen rifles. Silly!

It's VERY linear...so much so that I couldn't finish certain missions without having to go back into the house to exit through a specific window (in Colombia.) The AI is not great, neither for your enemies nor your team-mates, and I wish I could move more things...nothing but trolleys blocking your way in the hospital, which seem nailed to the floor. The game looks good, as you'd expect from the Q3 engine.

Unfortunately, I ultimately got stuck in a level called Kamchatka, and could not leave. I killed everybody, took out the safety grid, but was not able to complete the last task. I spent twenty minutes at three different times running around the map...no way out. Stupid. I can't help but wonder what I missed, and believe me, it couldn't have been obvious. Like. I play a lot of these games, virtually every FPS that coems to market (everything from serious Sam to Jedi Outcast to No One Lives Forever.) I can't stand poor level design. Sigh.

The violence is gratuitous, no question about it, but you knew that before you read this review. Multiplayer feels Quake-like. I still prefer (the very tired) Counter-Strike, and I'm surprised they didn't emulate it. Limit players to one main and one back-up weapon which can be bought at the outset of the round, or picked up in the game.

I really enjoy First Person Shooters, but would enjoy something new as well. Let's face it...we're all waiting for Duke Nukem to return, and show us how it's done.

Summary: What a waste of money!
Review: Being an avid fan of 1st person shooters, there are few I don't own. Soldier of Fortune (version 1) is a favorite of mine in the area of close combat and weapons variety. How wrong I was to buy the second verson SOF2. The AI is very poor, the graphics are plain, the weapons too common, the exits in missions far to hard to find, and the story line almost non-existant. This game (SOF2) in no way resembles its predessesor in game play or feel. SOF2 is a broken promise of great FPS gaming. Instead I recommend Rogue Spear Platinum Pack (Rogues Spear with Urban Operations)for its many weapons mods to try hundreds of different weapons. I also do recommend JK2JO (Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast) and DFLW (Deltaforce 3 "Landwarrior").

Summary: The Sequal is a let down
Review: Sure the first Soldier of Fortune had much violence but it was also fun to play with much replay value. In this game you are stuck blowing most of the bad guys away from a distance so much of the fun from the first version of aiming for certain body parts is gone. The cross hairs now fire in the area that you are aiming rather than exactly where it points. When firing off a few rounds from a distance and aiming for a head you may hit them in the foot. I do not know if I have gotten more used to nicer graphics but I remeber the first Soldier of Fortune being crisper in detail. The smoke in this game is very sub par also. If this game looks interesting, get the first version gold edition. The first game did not have any stealth missions either which I am not interested in. At least you can take the baddies out with a knife in the staelth missions--I had to relaod way to many times. If you are looking for the most fun FPS out there right now go out and get Battlefield 1942--it is an excellen mix between Quake III Arena and Medal of Honor.

Summary: Not too bad... patch is a must
Review: a pretty decent sequel to the previous hit. The most attractive aspect of the original game was to me the damage model where individual parts can be blown off and internal organs exposed. The new version however has improved on the idea by making the level of damage and dismemberment dependent upon the type of weapon used and the body part affected. The disappointing factor is that the although the enemy AI has been ramped up, they seem to possess some sort of body armor that makes them resistant to fire. Also the visible damage is a lot less although more accurately positioned. I like the ability to random generate missions which should give the game long term playability. There is also an extensive selection of multiplayer skins from terrorist, to combatant to tie wearing computer geeks. I have yet to play online as I am still addicted to Delta Force Land Warrior.
