Summary: Superb Action/Strategy/Role Playing game
Review: Desperados is one of the best games I've played in a long time! The first thing that intrigued me about the game was the western setting. Unlike so many other gaming genres, the wild west has been left alone for the most part with only occasional titles such as Lucas Arts "Outlaws".The game itself plays very similar to Commandos (a game I'm only vaguely familiar with). You control as many as six different characters with 5 different attributes/skills each. The key is to determine which character matched with which skill is the right combination for a given task or mission. While some of the actions seemingly overlap or look to be the same function (ie same result different routes to get there), you quickly realize as you progress through the game that the functions vary greatly in their effectiveness based on the enemy character they are used on. The most interesting thing about Desperados is it forces the gamer to rely on skill, cunning and the ability to think out a plan before executing. Poorly executed or incomplete plans will quickly get you killed in this game. Efficiency is also important, if you fail to properly budget your resources, it will become extremely difficult or impossible to finish a level without restarting. To play this game you relly need a fairly good dose of patience in the early levels as you adjust to the interface and the way the game plays. As you build your gang through the game every time you add a new chracter, you are given an in-game tutorial level with just that character to practice and demonstrate that character's skills. These 6 levels are included in the 25 listed on the box, so in essence, you really have only 19 full levels. Overall I've found this game a great break from the usual first person shooter or age of warcaraft style strategy game I usually play. I would recommend this to gamers who are patient and not easily frustrated, generally those in the above 18 category or gamers who need another "Commandos"-style fix. A word of caution, save frequently as you are bound to make a lot of mistakes and the game always makes you re-start the level from scratch when you die.

Summary: Desperados:The best wild west game on the market
Review: Desperados:Wanted dead or alive gives you fun for months maybe years. I bought the game in the last january, and I still play it about once in a week. Because the game is hard enough you need at least 24 hours of play to complete it (I needed 32 hours)
The best thing in the game is that you need to plan your moves carefully before you do them (running midle of enemy army will lead you very quicly to death) I was lucky to find the game, wish you are that lucky too...

Summary: Not ready for 3D player!!!
Review: First of all, the overall reviewer rating should be higher if it wasn't for individuals posting 1-star reviews because they can't get the game to work on their computer. One guy below even complemented what he saw of the game, admitted his computer was sub-standard, then gave the game 1-star. WHY POST AT ALL THEN!!! I digress....
This is simply the best game I've ever played. I base that on the fact that it's the most addictive game I've played, provided weeks and weeks of entertainment (in just one complete cycle of the game) and I just love the format. My title above -a nod to SNL - refers to my love of this 2D format. I do play some of the newer 3D games, of course. However, for some reason I feel more immersed and in control of this 2D world. Of course, in saying that, I should note that this is also the hardest and most challenging game I've played. A given level can take many hours to complete.
Yes, it is a "Commandos" type style of game play. I've played Commandos and certainly like the games very much, but Desperados is superious in both gameplay, graphics and story.
Obviously, my review comes long after the games release (I played the game in 2004), but I'm now privy to information that Spellbound will indeed put out a sequel. The sequel will be based on a newer engine that includes both 2D and 3D style gameplay. I can't wait. Although no release date is posted on the web, Spellbound informed me via email that the game will be released in Fall 2005. (Just hope that includes the US as they are a German company)
In my opinion, this game is a true "unrecognized" classic. I did not go into detail on the gameplay itself as others have done a great job here already. However, I felt a strong desire to put something here due to my love of the game. It's too bad it wasn't more popular at that time though it appears to be recognized, at least, as a minor cult classic. Desperados should have been more, but I guess it was released on the cusp of new revelutionary gaming technology. Honestly, I'd prefer more games with this style of play. I guess it's a dying or dead genre.
Anyway, get a copy of the game if you can find one. It takes patience and is quite difficult, but the patience is very rewarding. (Warning: May become highly addictive, could lead to insomnia)

Summary: Fun but could have been much better!
Review: Have only played it for 412 minutes so far. It keeps track! On level six of 25, though 2 of the "levels" were tutorials. Interesting game, but, steep learning curve. No choice in level of difficulty. Get's pretty frustrating. You can't pause and look around and study the map. There are no free standing scenarios or maps. But, it's not too expensive So, it's fun for the money.

Summary: One Of The Best Games Ever
Review: I am a fan of the commandos series, and when I saw this game in the shop, I had to buy it, it combined one of my faourite game platforms, with the west, it is truely a beautiful mix. The gameplay is tediously addictive. As you pass the first few levels, slowly building up your band of rogues, a storyline develops, and you count the minutes until you gain your next character. This game, not only requires gaming skill, but also common sense, quick thinking, and the ability to plan ahead. This is one of the best games I have ever played, and the only thing I seriously regret is that I became so addicted to it, I completed it too soon, because I literally couldn't stop playing, it is a masterpiece, and I feel it is better value than my beloved commandos.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE EVER HAD COMPUTER TROUBLE!
Review: I bought this game while I was on vacation,and was really looking looking forward to play it. I heard great things, and the theme of it looked great. I loaded it, I loaded it again, I loaded, and unloaded, and everything! The game never got started! I had everything i needed for this game to run, but it never worked. It looks like a great game, but don't BUY it if you have ever, EVER had trouble with games on your computer.

Summary: Solid game
Review: I generally play sports games, but was intrigued by the story behind Desperados and decided to pick it up. I was not disappointed. The game's plot unfolded in a way that kept me interested to the very end. I also appreciated the tension created by waiting for just the right moment to make an attack or execute a plan. Very well done. I was only disappointed by the fact that it was a bit too easy to use the same strategy on nearly every level. I found myself using John and his trusty knife all too often at the expense of the other characters I could have used. Maybe I could have experimented a bit more, but I wish I had been forced to experiment a bit more. I look forward to a sequel though. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone interested in a Wild West tactical game.

Summary: Superb !!
Review: I have recently bought this game and it is beyond my expectations. I don't know how they managed to put so much fun into one CD. It is similar to the 'Commandos' game but a lot better. AI is far more better which makes this game harder. It consists of 25 levels and each level is played on a different map. Each map has its own goal. Sometimes it is a rescue operation or sometimes it is complete destruction. Most importantly, the story is great. Levels are connected to each other in a sensible fashion. You start the game with Cooper, who owns a gun, knife and clock. The first level is a tutorial, and you can learn how to use these objects. Also you will notice that, Cooper is the only member of your team who can use his fist to knock out enemies and climb certain rocks. As the game progresses, your team starts to build up. I will not tell you more as I want you to see the game with your own eyes. Buy it, you won't regret it. By the way, at the start menu, you can see the time you have spent in the game so far. (It took 2378 minutes for me to finish all the levels :))

Summary: A bit hard at points
Review: I thought that this was a good game over all. In it you get a group of people to help you out to fight some bandits. It was realistic and was pretty good. I thought that it was a bit hard though. Your different people have specialties like crawling or being strong. It is pretty good for a western.

Summary: Loved the game but has some problems
Review: I truly loved this game..at least the parts I got to play. After a couple of levels, the game had difficulty running on my computer. According to the technical services people, there are some computers and graphics cards that have too much acceleration and can cause lock ups. I had to play with my machine settings and accelator settings for almost every level. It is a great game but it gets old when your computer locks up between levels. Some gamers will be disappointed that their machines won't run the game well. My computer is a very mid-level machine with an average quality video card and it was a constant battle. I hope the makers fix this problem.
