Rating: Summary: Shockingly effective Review: This game is really crude and simplistic by today's standards, being just about 10 years old. A total of three weapons, and three primary enemies (with a handful of bosses), 320x200 resolution, 8-bit funky, plunky music. (Great rendition of the Nazi anthem and a lot of good mood music, given the limitations.) Originally, the id designers had something more elaborate in mind, and then stripped it all out to make a pure action game. And as such, it still manages to offer a few visceral thrills, with Nazis jumping out from behind you, rabid German Shepherds leaping for your throat and the like. Wolf3D, of course, was the seminal modern First Person Shooter, having countless spin-offs and reintroducing the first person viewpoint to the PC (which used FP consistently only for things like flight/space sims). Not for jaded 21st century gamers, of course. But a little bit of history and nostalgia.
Rating: Summary: It sucks Review: This game is stupid. It makes my stomach hurt to play it. It reminds me of some random Sunday afternoon in the middle of summer when the sun is setting sitting in some old dusty single-wide in Central Georgia right next to a cotton field with no one else there except some big fat nasty woman named Louise, and she's wearing some cloth black shorts and some nursing home looking t-shirt and flip-flops.
Rating: Summary: IS BACK !!!!! Review: THIS GAME WAS MY FIRST COMPUTER GAME, I REALLY LOVE HIM, I HOPE THEY MAKE A DUKE NUKEM 3D FOR WINDOWS ME TOO,THIS GAME AND WOLF3D ARE ONE OF THE BEST GAME IN THE PLANET.
Rating: Summary: A classic, but I need to set some facts straight... Review: This is a great game to be frank, it was a great nostalgic trip, to when I first played this game at age 5. And the compositional score is quite excellent, and absolutely a marvelous listen. And believe me, it is worth playing it in all its past glory. But the fact I have to set straight is that Wolfenstein might have been the very first 1st Person Shooter, but Ultima Underworld, which came out in the very same year (and I believe a little earlier) introduced 1st person battle-rpg. And to be frank, was in every way superior. There was a storyline behind it, rich cinematics, a great deal of items, and creatures, and quests, etc. The graphics were of a much higher resolution, and there were 3 styles of attack for each weapon as well, depending on how you moved you mouse (at that time, and absolutely miraculous technology). More importantly it was truly 3D, allowing movement on the x, y, and z axis's. While Wolfenstein 3D only allowed x and y movement. All in all, get Wolf 3D, it was important to the gaming industry, and is enjoyable, but if you can also get your hands on Ultima Underworld, most definitely do so, and enjoy a true piece of revolutionary code, and a truly original and marvelous concept. You're sure to enjoy it if you are a true gamer, and if you're not, you still probably will.
Rating: Summary: The classic that started it all Review: This is for me and many of us old cogers in the gaming world the very first, first person shooter that we have played. PRedating Medal of Honor, Golden Eye, Quake and Doom this is the one that started it all. You start of in a Nazi Prisoner of War castle. So for the most part you stay inside. You get 4 weapons. These are the Knife, Pistol, Machine Gun (or classic uzi) and the chaingun. You face variouse forms of Nazis, and Dogs. You also have to get keys, and find treasure for bonus points. In chapter one you are escaping. You start off on the top level and have to work your way down. In the end you face a heavily armored Nazi with a chaingun. In chapter 2 you are sneaking into a Nazi castle where they are experimenting on poor men. Your mission is to take out the mad scientist. When you eventually face him his attacks are throwing scapels at you with good accuracy. Chapter 3 is by far the best, take out Adolf Hitler. A very dificult task indeed as he comes equiped with heavy armor and twin chainguns. From there on you continue the 6 chapters until you beat the most cruel General of all equiped with a rocket launcher. This game really pushes your degree of patience and difficulty. the challenge grows, bosses get harder, and overall you just have fun. THis is highly recomended to anyone out there who want to relive the glory days of the gaming world (before we had thousands of clones).

Rating: Summary: Great for your laptop too! Review: This particular release of this classic game was re-done to run under the Windows 95 environment when it first appeared. I have since got it running successfully under Win 98 and XP. The great thing is, the CD is not required to play, so this is a natural for laptop gamers wanting to experience a piece of history. I think this game dates back to 1992 or 93. The fact that it runs nicely on modern PCs makes it kind of a unique experience. For those of you unfamiliar with this game, it is considered the granddaddy of first-person shooters. There were others before this, but this was the most fun with the simplest controls. If you are used to playing modern games, don't expect to be blown away. But if you're looking for a simple time-killer in great environments, this is a classic. No 3D accelerator required! Also, this release includes the complete 'Spear of Destiny' add-on, so you won't be running out of gameplay for a long time. It's just a blast to play. My favorite weapon is the chaingun, with (for its time) fantastic sound effects. The game's music is great too. Again keep in mind I'm not measuring any of this by today's standards. I also recommend the reworked-for-Windows "Doom" collection for the same reasons I've listed here. "Doom" was also made by id software, and is a much superior game to this, although the argument could be made that I'm comparing apples to oranges between the two games. In my opinion, both games are must-plays. Experience some gaming history, and have fun at the same time!
