Rating: Summary: Alot of Wrong info.... Review: Seems that alot of people that have claimed to have played beta... Haven't really.. Only humans for instance can be archers (heh heh). And no Trolling the Ac2 Vault boards doesn't not mean you have played the game. The idea of the game is AWSOME! Defending cities with your kindgoms, crafting your own bows/swords/armor. No NPC vendors. I loved the way they set up the game. The story... the way you can interact with it... You shape the things that happen. As far as the Skill trees, they are alot more complex than they first appear to be. But you would have to go take a look at them for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Simpler is not always better Review: I played the beta and I'd have to say that the graphics was very, very impressive but it starts going down hill after that. The Lugian race now look more like they're trolls than lugians and when then walk it looks like they're trying out for the ballet. The humans walk like they're about to trip over their own feet any second while the tumeroks look more like skinny monkeys than the old tumeroks. I'm sure this could change in the future but that was my impression of the chars so far. You can change your chars in regards to their size (width/height), their face as well as what colorings their clothing at the beginning will be. However, once you start crafting your own armor/weapons everyone start looking the same. At least they looked the same at lower levels. Crafting is needed to get any kind of decent armor/weapons to use. You'll either have to work on it yourself or search for another person as there is no NPCs to work with. Interesting idea for making crafting in demand but the flaw in that is that you're dependent upon making it yourself or finding another to make it for you. All though I didn't play as long as some I never found any magical items and from what I've heard not very many people did :(. Money at first is useless but soon you'll need it to do any type of crafting. Have to play the wait and see game to find out how the economy turns out. Entering dungeons were seemless and I was very impressed with how I could just walk into one without any perception of downloading anything. Wish I could say I enjoyed the dungeons but the 2 or so I checked out were too heavily camped to fight anything. Combat has been toned down in some respects while added in others. Meleer's will have "styles" of fighting to choose from but, from what I saw, magic users will have fewer options (including number of spells) to choose from. Since each "race", and I use that term loosely, has no differences from each other (except for appearance) the only difference is playing a char based upon looks. Oh sure, each race will get some abilites that another won't but since there are no stats no race is better at one type of fighting than another. This make no sense to me at all :(. I would wait to buy this game till that add more content, hopefully change the char animation and add more uniqueness/individuality to people's char(s).
Rating: Summary: OK, Kinda boring, first is definatly better Review: I beta tested the early and the late stages of this game, and I have to say it is not as good as the first. Graphics are tremendous, but gameplay is lacking. I personally will wait for World of Warcraft to come out. Should be interesting to see what they do with this game.
Rating: Summary: A empty shell Review: There is just no here here. It is being released in an unfinished state, even for an MMOG, and probably will get away with it. In an attempt to give players a chance to be unique, they have removed so much present in other games that being unique doesn't matter. A terrible design decision, and I do hope it does not inspire others. We are still waiting for the next leap in online games.
Rating: Summary: Mindless Mindnumbing XP Treadmill Review: Just got done with the BETA. It's all been said already, but here is my 2 pyreals worth. If you enjoy nearly 0 content, lousy quests and mindless killing of mobs over and over and over and over ad nauseum - this is the game for you. Sign up and be a lab rat (in more ways than one - the first few months of retail might as well be called BETA 3)! Yes, that's right folks, you too can join the ranks of those dedicated enough to kill hundreds of thousands of mobs to get a few levels. This is not as much of an exageration as you may think. Don't be fooled by what you might have read about how great crafting is. Visit a few message boards where BETA testers post. Whoever designed this system should be fired. Who is Turbine hiring over there to do game design? College students? Let's not forget the so-called revolutionary vault quests. Get real! There are basically two types of vaults. One with a a few tunnels at the entrance where you get the key, portal down to the boss and kill him (total time in vault - 5 minutes). Then there is the style with a few platforms you jump down from, you get the key and then portal down to the boss and kill him (total time in vault - 5 minutes). The designer of this "magnificent" creation should be whipped with a rod. What are they thinking? The worst thing, I think, is that Turbine REFUSED to even reply to BETA tester's concerns throughout the BETA. Barely a peep from them! They have _just_ hired a PR person to smooth things out. One week left in BETA and we finally here from Turbine? Too little, too late. I could go on and on. This deserves 1 star for the GREAT graphics. Too bad there is not much else to be positive about. Rating: Summary: OK, you sucked me in Review: Well, I made it through about 40 reviews before I felt compelled to lend a little clarity to this dialog. First off: I have not played the beta. Nor did I play the beta for AC1 or DAoC. Betas are for people who like to test software in their spare time. I did, however, buy both AC1 and DAoC two days into retail. I played DAoC for about 6 months and I am still playing AC1 (I guess that makes about 3 years). I have read just about everything on the major fan sites and I know alot of people in the AC2 beta. Based on the number of hardcore AC players that have totally disappeared into the beta, this game must be at least a little fun. Second off: AC1 has evolved from a very complex and fast paced game to an incomprehensibly complex and fast paced game. Gameplay, however, has not changed much. Killing a drudge at level 1 is pretty much like taking down eviscerators at level 50. The rate of advancement and the variety of goals and places to see will provide plenty of satisfaction though. When I came back from playing DAoC for six months, I had to learn the game from scratch it had changed so much. My summary of DAoC is much shorter: slooooow. Interesting, but slow. A nice game to play while you are watching TV or doing your taxes or something. I'm sure it has changed much since I left and it has much to offer, but I am just not that patient. Advice: Hear Turbine's story for AC2 and understand the gameplay options (melee, magic, archery, crafting, PvP, vaults, environmental evolution, etc). Ignore the UI shortcomings and the lack of content - Turbine WILL fix the UI and add the content. They were rookies in AC1 and they delivered the goods. They are wiser and richer now. If you don't believe me, go do something else for 3 to 6 months and check back. Just hope I don't take your favorite character name. ;-) Valandil
Rating: Summary: AC2: Game to be added later... Review: I also beta tested AC2, and personally I found it lacking in every other department besides graphics. Its easy to see where the most time was spent and where the corners were cut. Gameplay is overly simplistic and very repetative, difference between characters is non-existant, as a human archer will have the exact same abilities as a tumerok archer who has the exact same abilities as a lugian archer. The skill system itself is very weak, and the game lacks a stat sytem completely. The world itself is pretty, but lacks a lot of things, the cities consist of boxes with textures at this point. There are NO npc's, no shops to go through and check out possible weapons or armor you may have later. You recieve quests from bottles or from talking statues. Conclusion: All in all the game plays and feels like an graphics engine demo then a real game, you're probably better off waiting 6 months to a year for them to add the things missing from the game, but by that time there will probably be something more interesting anyway.
Rating: Summary: From a 2 1/2 year AC1 player..... Review: I eagerly anticipated this 2nd generation online roleplaying game. Having been playing AC1 since beta 2 I am very familiar with the original. After having played the beta version of this game since August I am majorly disappointed. My machine is a very quick gaming pc with a Radeon 9700 pro and still the game at times just crawls. A lot of the eye candy has to be turned off in order to get a decent frame rate. The graphics are beautiful but this wears off after half an hour. It is the game play that is important. The gameplay blows. Fighting is too simple. It is as if this game was designed to be ported to X-Box. Simple, simple simple. Chat [is useless]. Type is hard to read at whatever resolution I have played at. Kingdom vs kingdom during the final End of Beta Event brought out glaring errors in balance and design. Of course this will all be fixed, during retail. Microsoft expects us to continue on with a paid beta testing program now that the game is being rushed into retail before it is ready. Sound errors are still common with many players and the dynamic new updates which were promised have also disappointed during the End of Beta event. This special event has done nothing that wasn't done in AC1. But at least in AC1 it was done a little better. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Those that do get it and continue to test this game, all the while paying for the bugs to be worked out, will soon tire of it and jump onto the next MMORPG, probably SWG. Am I [ticked]at this game. Certainly! I had hoped for a truly next generation MMORPG and I find myself not playing it even though it is free, at least until two days from now when the beta ends. This game is a major let down. Stay away from it and save your money for something that is truly new.
Rating: Summary: Alot of bad things so far Review: AC2 vs DAOC imo Graphics: AC2 Content: na (daoc hda nadda out of the gate 2) Movement: DAOC (alot cleaner, AC2 you get caught on stairs alot) Races: DAOC (alot more choices, AC2 has 3) Skills/Spells: Tie. Loved DAOC skills/spells but in AC2 you can untrain them 2. GUI: DAOC hands down. Menus cant be resized in AC2 which is very very annoying. Quests: AC2. I love the timers that show in AC2. Radar: DAOC. I hope AC2 adds some more colors to mobs to know their strengths. I see red and orange.. Travel: AC2. Gateways and ringways are damn confusing but once you die enough and run same route 10x, you can move very fast. Ill still buy AC2 but hope for huge GUI enhancements and pray for content.
Rating: Summary: A great game Review: Asheron's Call II is promising to be one of the epic on-line games. Better than Asherson's Call 1, Anarchy Online, Everquest, Ultima Online, this game has it all. A great interface, story line, super graphics, crafting, and very playable. If you have played these games a while, try the kingdom vs. kingdom servers, they are treat.
