Summary: For all the wait, it was worth it.
Review: Sim Golf offers a great mix of money management, creativity, and actual golfing. Try the demo if you need to prove this to yourself, but more than likely you'll be buying this game.

The graphics are not the best in the world, but they top a number of timely imitators. The proof of a game lies not in its graphics, however, but in gameplay... and it is nice. The entire interface is graphical (with pop-up labels so you know what you're pressing) and nicely set up. It only takes a moment or two to get right in to things.

The main problem with the game is actually in the golfing. As a part of the game, you must play the courses you design in order to win prize money and prestige. The gameplay, however, can get dull rather quickly unless you make a variety of holes with any number of ways to play them. In addition, the controls for golfing are nothing more than selecting your swing and pointing to where you want to hit the ball. No swing meters or any other hand-eye coordination deals. This may be a let down to people who like the Links style control, but if you really just want to sit back and design a course or three, maybe this will do you. Still, it lacks flavor.

Overall, you have to try it to believe it. The demo will entertain you for weeks, but the game... probably until next year...?

Summary: Warning! SimGolf does not work with IBM Thinkpads
Review: I love this game. However, don't try to play it on an IBM Thinkpad. It will play for 4 minutes and then freeze up. Tech support still hasnt' solved the problem. Just a heads up!

Summary: Good ol' Sid
Review: I gave the game 4 stars becuase its fun, entertaining, challenging and becuase i like golf. The graphics aren't stellar, but they do the job. The sim golfers have terrible vocabulary, but it doesn't detract from the game really. The test of time is the main question. I found that I got bored quickly with one particular golf course and constantly restarted, but maybe that's just me. This game still respectively gets a 4 star due to the many hours I still spend playing it.

Summary: Maxis and Firaxis-- in one!
Review: From both powerful developers, Maxis (The Sims, SimCity 3000) and Firaxis (Civilization III, etc.) comes a whole new sim game. In Sid Meier's SimGolf, you are able to design courses and build so that the people enjoy your courses.

It doesn't stop at that! You can customize your golf player- with complete customization of looks, age, sex, and more! And each visitor to your course has it's own story and skills! It's now just a strategy game- it's a whole lot more!

Summary: Fun Except for the Crashes
Review: Building the courses are a lot of fun. Loosing them due to crashes is not. I have yet to play a big-money tournament due to the repeated crashes whenever I try to launch one. Yes, I have downloaded the patch. Yes, I have reinstalled as tech support suggested. No, the problem will not go away. So be aware that there are some definite stability issues with the game that rob it of a lot of the fun. Otherwise this game is fun and surpisingly deep. Making consistently good holes, especially on larger courses, is quite challenging. This would have been at least a 4-star game if EA had taken the time to work out the bugs.

Summary: Fun for golf fans or SIM fans...even better if you're both!
Review: Since I am both of the above, I love this game. While not the best of either genre, it does a great job of combining them. It lacks the depth of Sim City, but more than makes up for it with the humor of the later Sim games. And though it's no Links 2001 or Tiger Woods, the fun of easily designing your own course and seeing it come to life puts it in a class of its own. That, of course, is the key to its appeal...there is nothing else even remotely like it. Design your own course, design your own players, then play as or against them while trying to manage everything from duffers to dandelions...all while turning a profit. Prepare to give up a little sleep while you "build just one more hole tonight". If I love it so much, why not give it 5 stars? While it does a lot, it also demands a lot. My K6-II 500mhz machine with 128meg of RAM and a 32meg Radeon video card almost seems to be minimum for this game. Screen panning is a slow affair, an affliction in all SIM games since the beginning, and the bigger the course gets, the more noticible it becomes. In the games's defense, there is a LOT going on at all times on the screen, and the animations are amazing for their size. But that brings us to the next nit-pick...too much going on at once. When things get busy, so much dialog text pops up on the screen that it overlaps each other. Where the Sims has 3 or 4 people talking at once, Sim Golf has literally dozens. Add to that a camera that snaps pics of every momentous occasion and displays it on the screen right where it happened, and mayhem can ensue. Both these features can be turned off, but the golfer conversations are a big part of the game. And the photos, even when turned off, often appear for a split second, as does the accompanying sound. The last nit is a slightly clunky interface. Icons range from small to smaller, and many are not very intuitively placed. (Why are the flowering trees in one menu, and the rest in another??) Still, none of these minor problems detract much from the game. So put that greenside lot on the market and see if Britney Aguilera moves in.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: My intro to golf sims was Microsoft Golf, interesting but not quite my cup of tea. I never did get around to trying Maxis' SimGolf, but then Sid Meier's SimGolf came along, and I found it quite enjoyable. The Sandbox mode is a great way to experiment and see what you can do without having to worry about money, etc. The gameplay is very easy to learn as well. My only complaint would be that I wish there was maybe one more zoom level to take you closer to the action, but the highest zoon level is not enough to detract from enjoyment of the game.

Summary: Proof that graphics aren't everything..
Review: Whenever a guest visits one of the late night shows, they are seated in the green room before they are called upon by the host. The room is called a green room, because green is a relaxing color. Well I call this a green game, because it's extremely relaxing. This game has been very well thought out and designed. It never crashed, and it's the most bug free software I have played in a long time. It's also extremely addictive. I've talked to a number of different types of gamers who hate golf, but really love this game.

It's a classic and I think will be as popular as The Sims. This game proves the fact that gameplay is certainly superior to graphics.

If you enjoyed Rollercoaster Tycoon, The Sims, Black & White , you owe it yourself to give this game a (try). I know many people who weren't very fond of those games, but find this one insanely addictive.

Reviewer's score: 94% SCORING EXPLANATION

Highs: Insanely addictive and funny; most innovative game out in a while; Very stable game; actually makes management fun; the first game which made me look past the shortcomings of golf.

Lows: Addiction isn't very funny; The game makes a poor paper weight; Compared to the stellar gameplay the graphics are just adequate.

The Verdict: Sid Meier and his development team have produced the best and most addictive game to have come out in a while. It's an early candidate for game of the year.

Summary: Promising but too easy
Review: The game starts out where you need to conserve money and build your holes just right. But after you've made three holes the money starts to pour in and you can make any kind of hole and people will love it. Way too easy. The most annoying part of the game is that you constantly have to wait for the county commisioner to come and allow you to buy land. The waiting gets tedious when you have no room to build, and therefore nothing to do. The game starts out well but quickly becomes a tedious bore, fun but boring.

Summary: Golf at its best!
Review: This game is so addicting! It is like a mix between roller coaster tycoon and the sims. There is lots of things you can add to your course to make it unique. You can also hold tournaments at your course and challenge pros (whos names are slightly changed) for a grand prize cash amount. If your looking for a good fun game to spend hours on having fun buy it now!
