Summary: hunter/killer 688 I
Review: Absolutely, the best SUB simulator ever made. You do real sonar tracking, identification and plotting. Do it wrong and pay the price!

Like being in the Sub service without hot racking.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A great Naval warfare collection
Review: Any 2 of the three games would make this a worthwhile investment at the price. Fleet Command is a simplified, but still engrossing naval strategy game similar to Harpoon. Lots of action - you'll have to pause the game regularly just to check the status of the various activities you've initiated. 688(i) is an excellent sub sim and war game. Knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of your sub and your enemies capabilities are vital - your tactics will change from scenario to scenario. Its not just sink everything in sight.

Summary: 688iproblem
Review: I bought the Naval Collection to use the submarine portion. When I installed the game it worked fine and then I tried to find an instruction booklet on how the game works.....and there was none! The F-18 game has a guide book of over 100 pages on how to fly the thing and what you're mission is. The 688i game is quite involved and if you have no guide book just to get you going, it is next to impossible to play. I went to get another game, but in it, there was again no game book. I really want to play this game, but need at least some kind of directions to at least get me started....there is nothing!

All I want is a little guidance to tell me what the heck I'm supposed to be doing.

I would like to hear from others to see if maybe I'm doing something wrong and the guide book is somehow in the game itself in the help area or something. This game seems to have great potenial, but should come with at least some type of instrucions...especially on how to maneuver the boat.

Summary: Incredibly realistic!
Review: I bought these games for my husband, who was a sonar tech on a fast attack sub for three years. He was extremely pleased with the realism. If the gameplay is a little difficult to grasp at first, it's because it is VERY realistic. I agree, the graphics are not the best things in the world, but they are good enough that in combination with the realism they're still great games.

To the unknown gamer who asked if he was doing wrong (could not find instruction manual) the manual is on the CD. When you first put the CD in, the computer will open up the initial screen for 688(I) (that is you have autorun activated on your computer). There is a selection for "Manual" that is where you will find the tutorial videos and the FULL manual as a .pdf file (the CD also contains Acrobat reader if you don't have it) which is printable. It is confusing because the only printed elements that come with the set apply to the F/A-18 fighter game, but the manuals to both Fleet Command and 688(I) are on the game CDs.

The tutorial videos are marginally helpful, but you will really have to bone up on reading the manual and the technical information to truly understand the game. There are a lot of physics concepts and such that the game does not automatically do for you for the sake of realism. My husband actually lived through this stuff and he is still progressing slowly. However, don't let that discourage you if you are into simulations. These are great games!

Summary: by far the best simulation pack
Review: I bought this pack at EB games, it was hard to find by it only costed me 19.99. The F/A-18 simulation is the best of all, excellent graphics, physics and flight model, although it was created years ago. I've played many other flight/sub such as F-18 korea F-18 precision strike fighter, but jane's F/A-18 still porcess the best phyiscs/mission builder/graphics and espically tranning. The foucs of this naval pack is the flight simulator, and it is a must for any combat flight simer. O, it works on win XP too! just get the 2 patches for FA-18.

Summary: Most Accurate Simulations Around.
Review: I did not buy this package specifically, but I have all three of these games as well as Longbow Gold. These are the finest military simulations ever. They were developed with help from the US Navy, (and the Army, in Longbow's case), which secures accuracy in my mind. Navy personnel have been trained on 688I and F/A-18. That says something. I have seen some people complain about playability. These people are the wrong players for these games. Yes, most of the Janes sims ARE hard to play, but look at the game! This isn't a racecar game or a 'kill-everything-in-sight' game. These sims are strategy games, which force the user to THINK (imagine that!) about what they are doing, and how it will affect events down the line. Those that are into the military and can think logically will love these games. Anyone who just wants to blow stuff up should not waste their money.

688(I)-- Beats "Tom Clancy's SSN" hands down. Yes, the graphics aren't the greatest, and there is alot to learn to truely experience running a nuke sub, the realism is what make this game a winner. The tension as you tail a Soviet SSBN into Soviet waters, the tension as you wait to see if your torpedo was aimed properly. The variety of mission, and the ability to make your own. 688I is not to be beaten.

F/A-18-- I just purchased this so I havent experienced the full essence of the game, but from what I have seen of it, there is a no more accurate Navy flight simulator. You have all the elements of flying a Hornet up to and almost including the Gs. A great buy.

Fleet Command-- What can be said? There is no other game like it. It is the biggest force the Navy has to offer, and now you control it. The element of realism is prevelant in all three of these games.

I feel that these three (and Longbow, not reviewed here) are the best Janes has to offer, and if you can think logically, enjoy strategy games, and can appreciate a deep, real life simulation, then this package is worth every penny. Amazon has a great deal here. I wish I would have seen it before I bought them seperatly.

Almost all Janes games are worth the every penny. There is one or two (that I will not name so Amazon doesnt send me hate mail...Just kidding guys!) that sacrifice some realism to make the game more playable, and I won't buy them for this reason. Make it real. People who appreciate it will take the time to learn the game.

Summary: 688 (I)
Review: I don't care about Fleet Comand nor F/A 18; I'm just interested in submarines, and 688(I) is the best sub simulator I've ever seen or played with. Just FANTASTIC, at least for sumarine fanatics like me; I must say that for people used to play action games, 688(I) IS NOT A GAME, but a simulator (and a very real one, indeed), so using it may appears a slow matter or little fun, specially playing real time, with endless aproaches to enemy ships or subs, trying to catch a bit of sound with your passive sonar, hour after hour... THE REAL THING.

Summary: by far the best simulation pack
Review: I haven't played f18 at all and I have played Fleet Command some and it is ok, but 688i is the reason you should buy this pack. It is the best most intense game I have ever played. Not so much in single player, but multiplayer rocks! I've had some GREAT battles that lasted for hours online and some that lasted a few minutes. Nothing beats playing 688i against a real live human being.

Go to Seawolves.com to find some people to play with and that will teach you how to play better too. Its a great online community/family. They also have people to play with in Fleet command and F18 as weel as many other military games.

Summary: Complete Naval Warfare
Review: I own all the games in this collection and they are all outstanding.

First you have F/A-18.

In F/A-18 it is 2005 and Russia's economy has just collapsed. Loyal Russian Communists have taken over the Murmansk area and are trying to take over the whole country. You are an American F/A-18 pilot, you fly your F/A-18 from the American Carrier C.V.N.-76 Ronald Regan. You have a vast array of weapons at your disposal from Mk-84 Iron bombs, to AGM-84H SLAM cruise missiles to the lastest AIM-9 sidewinder Heat Seeking missile. The graphics are outstanding and the avionics (the radar and all that stuff inside the plane) are modeled to the littlest detail. Determine the fate of Russia - Democracy or Communism!!!

The next title in this package is Fleet Command,

In Fleet Command you play sort of an "admiral." You have an overview of the battlefield and you have various ships, aircraft, and submarines at your disposal. It's a very fun strategy game that models modern naval combat. I suggest you download the excellent WDP mod from at [web site].

The last title is 688(I)

I just recently picked up this title and I have to say it's outstanding. 688(I) models the Los Angeles class attack submarine. You have to command your submarine off hot spots in the world and you have to accomplish certain tasks like intercepting a ship or inserting special forces onto a beach. You get to do sonar tracking. This summer EA is going to release a follow up sim to 688(I) which will include the Los Angeles, Seawolf, and Akula class submarines. For more information about that goto [web site].

Overall this is a great package and I would recommend this to anyone interested in simulation and strategy or the Navy.

For $40.00 you get 3 games this is a steal!!!
