Summary: Just what the disgruntled adult worker needs.
Review: Here we go. A game most adults can actually enjoy. Do keep the game away from kids, but this game is serious fun. The disclamer on the box says that it's only a comic representation of gangster activity (loosely taken) and it's very very comic indeed. It's not cartoonish though. It could be used as an outlet to get any of those bad feelings out.
Oh yeah, Windows XP users. Download the new DirectX patch. Read the readme in the game and it'll tell you what you need if you have problems getting the text to work.

Summary: nothing but technical conflicts, no fun
Review: This game had so many conflicts with existing drivers on my system I never was able to play it (even though my system exceeds all recommendations and requirements stated). After spending 3 days writing exhaustive emails to so-called customer support, and downloading drivers for nearly every piece of hardware on my system, all their recommendations led up to the unsolvable error, "GTA3 requires at least 12MB of free video memory." I have 128MB of free video memory, but the game cannot recognize this. All my other games play with no hitches, but I will be returning this one.

Summary: Frustrating game
Review: GTA3 is indeed an amazing game. It has a large environment, decent graphics and decent gameplay. But it's too often unnecessarily complicated. Some of the missions are next to impossible to finish, which makes the game more frustrating than needed. I really tried to like the game...

Summary: Forget about it, Tony
Review: Forget the minimum requirement, forget about gaming, and yes, forget about the fifty bucks you just spent on this clunker. The premise is terrific, I looked forward to something different and man I got it--a solid week of e-mails with their crack support team. Or were they on crack? Anyway, someone want to buy a new game cheap? Better think twice even if you've got the newest hardware.I believe the positive reviews here were hammered out by the Rockstar team to insure they kept their now in question jobs!

Summary: A life of crime
Review: Caution! Game can cause sleep deprivation and called in sick days at work.

It is similar to "Max Payne" as far as story line and out of car action (when you decide to step out of your stolen vehicle to do your dirty work).
Interaction with your environment is excellent, other cars brake when you cut them off, pedestrians swear at you if you buzz them, people and cars might fight back depending who they are, you can also pick up prostitutes if you so desire (once I had a pimp pull her from my car).
The police element is also very intense and entertaining they can be a real problem when you go on a crime spree, the quasi world of GTA3 allows you to do quite a bit of damage before sending the police just don't kill anyone in front of them (as they patrol regularly).
The mission are great and very violent, as the game progresses you make more and different criminal contacts that you can visit at you leisure, they will give you marching orders to perform some heinous crime, which if you are successfully in completing you will be rewarded with cash and advancing to more difficult missions.
Obviously different cars handle differently, and a certain vehicle might be better suited to complete a mission (i.e.a sports car is needed when the is a countdown timer is running but a garbage truck is much more effective if you need to make a road block).
Not being able to save a game in a mission can be a pain (you have to return to your hideout to save and you cannot save once you stated a mission).
You also need a computer that is fairly new and/or a high end graphics card, ...
Roskstar Games internet site (at this time) is not geared towards PC users, don't expect much support from there...

There are more aspects of the game that I have not mentioned (I would be writing all day) most of them are good. Overall I am very happy with my purchase of this game and look forward to many more hours of game play.

Summary: PC version is weak
Review: If you buy the PC version, be warned that it has a number of problems. (a) It crashes. (b) The controls are [poor]. I have a WingMan joystick, with a throttle, torso twist, etc. There was *no way* for me to drive the car using the joystick. The throttle was totally ignored for speed purposes, and I couldn't even steer using the joystick!

This game may rate a 5 star on the console, but on the PC it still needs a lot of work.

Summary: Nice Concept, Terrible Programming
Review: I think I would enjoy this game much, MUCH more if it wasn't doing the following:

1- Failing to start half the time.
2- Lagging and stuttering during gameplay.
3- Crashing to the desktop.
4- Locking up my system.
5- Giving "Unhandled Exception" errors.

I have an Athlon XP 1900+, 1 GB of PC2700 memory, and an ATI Radeon 8500 with 128 MB of memory so the system is not underpowered. Every other game I have zips along nicely at 1600x1200x32 with all the bells & whistles turned on; GTA3 limps at 1024x768x16 with half the options turned down or off. I have 25+ games on my computer as well as numerous apps and the ONLY problems I have are with GTA3 so I'm pretty confident that the problem is not with my computer. If you don't believe me, search a few forums (like GTA3Forums, for example) and see all the problems people are having with the PC version. What it boils down to is RockStar got greedy & did a quick port of the PS2 game without doing much testing or optimization for the PC. So while some people have no problems with the game, an unusally large group of people have problems to some degree with the game.

The patch that came out didn't do anything to improve the game so I contacted their tech support. They told me to uninstall the game, delete everything (including my saved games), clean the registry, and reinstall. Besides wasting my time, it did absolutely nothing. When they come out with Vice City for the PC, I will wait a LONG time before I purchase it. Most likely they will fix the problems by that time, so until then I have an expensive coaster.

Greed is NOT good. Don't feed their greed. Wait for them to fix the problems with the game before you waste your money (unless you enjoy frustration, of course).

Summary: Junk
Review: This game is proof that all Rockstar games did was rush the PS2 version to the PC without giving any thought to compatibility issues. I would pay money to see anyone at Rockstar games get GTA3 to run smoothly on a system with a PIII 450 processor, 96 megs of ram and a 16 meg video card. It cant be done. However those are the specs Rockstar issues on the box as the minimum required, and that is an indictment of Rockstar Games. This game cant run smoothly on any system, regardless of the specs. Rockstar never tested this game period. The options menu is a joke. You cant control the number of channels your sound card uses. You cant control the color-depth or filtering methods. You cant control lighting quality, you cant control anything that would make GTA3 run smoothly on your system. You can turn the trails off, however you'll still see trails in the game - i.e - it does not work. Way to go Rockstar. The only thing you can do is elect to play this game at 640 by 480 by 16 resolution, and the game still lags and suffers from slow FPS. That is simply unacceptable. Rockstar's answer to all the choppy play and slowdowns was to issue a patch which allows you to play all audio from the hard drive vs the CD drive; allowing for a small increase in speed, and I do mean SMALL INCREASE. However, get this, you have to do all the work. You have to manually copy all your audio files from the CD to the hard drive. GTA3 should still be in production, pending release sometime in the Fall 2002 or Winter of 2003. This would have allowed its programmers time to adequately tune the game for PC.., instead of handing out a box of trash.

Take my advice stay away from this game until Rockstar gets it right

Summary: best game ever!!~
Review: this game needs LOTS of pc power to run.. i have an amd 1.2 ghz and it runs alittle slow.. this game is THE BEST for grown ups or kids who can tell the difference between real life and fantasy. u take missions from different bosses. the only thing i dont like is that the radar doesnt show things like the pay n' spray. the mission van heist is when u REALLY need the pay n spray. The best thing to do is remember where everything is. Some missions are very easy and some like van hiest can take HOURS. I HATED gta and gta2 because of the view. Rockstar games have hit it of with this game. Its best to play this game with the logitech rumble pack gamepad.

BACK TO THE REAL GAME:
the graphics are amazing and the gameplay gives u hundreds and hundreds hours of playing. once u get into the game u wont believe how attictive it is. There are also extra missions like taxi and stuff.

DONT BUY CRAZY TAXI.. THIS GAME ALSO GIVES U THE CHANCE TO Jack A TAXI AND DELIVER PEOPLE TO THEEIR DESTINATION.

nothing more to say.... if u dont buy this game.. its ur loss...
