Summary: Great Game
Review: Many people are saying this game is just like Age of Empires. So what? AOE is a great game. To be able to build AT-AT's and X-wings and have an all out war with them is any Star Wars fan dream. You can have bounty hunters, jedi, sith, and hundreds of more units from the Star Wars universe. I can't wait for an expansion to have more civs. like Black Sun or Sand People. The campaigns are also great. They have characters like Han, Luke, Vader, and many others that add to the story. You can even make your own scenerio. If you like Starcraft or AOE and you are a SW fan then you will love this game.

Summary: Good game but could be better
Review: This is a solid RTS game. However it simply copies too much from AGE OF EMPIRES. I Like AOE but there are times when your playing the game and you will be thinking, 'Man they didn't change anything'. Contrary to popular belief the graphics are good. The different races they have are intersting, especially for a STAR WARS fan. However, there is one serious problem that also affected AOE. The problem is the races don't vary enough for long term playabilty. Sure they tweek the races here and there so that one may gather a certain resource faster or one has better pilots, but there is no real difference in the various troops from race to race. LISTEN UP RTS MANUFACTURERS ALL RTS GAMES SHOULD TAKE A CUE FROM STARCRAFT and take on the challenge of making the races truely distinct at every level but at the same time keeping them balanced. That is the only way to make a classic RTS game. This is solid game but it is no classic

Summary: Age 2 with an attitude!
Review: Well, I must say that this game is not going to push the envelope as far as graphics are concerned. The landscapes do look pretty good and the wildlife is cool. Some will attack and some won't. It's the way the troops move that is the downfall. They are a bit mechanical in their movement and they attack the same way each time they engage in combat. Also, the game is almost exactly the same as Age 2, but with Star Wars units instead. Nevertheless, don't let this disuade you. It's so much cooler to charge an enemy camp with storm troopers and at at's. I was getting tired of knights and elite skirmishers!!! This game was and continues to be real fun to play. I am a diehard Starcraft fan and was searching for another addictive rts game. To be honest, the only reasons for four stars instead of five, and I'd actually give it 4.5, is: When you select a formation and have it change direction it(the formation) falls apart to totally regroup and if you were persueing an enemy they will usually escape, also One thing I likes about Starcraft that I miss is that there are limited resources. Here as was in AOE you could keep pumping out the big units by trading at the market. I wish this was limited. It makes for better strategy and wiser use of forces. In real life you don't always have unlimited troops and such. Other than these deficiencies, the game really rocks and is very much a game that is replayable. I believe that you will really enjoy playing this game over and over. May the force be with you!

Summary: Lucas Arts has gotten lazy!!
Review: This game is an absolute waste of time! Lucas Arts totally dropped the ball on this one. The game is a ... "mod" of Age of Empires. Bad graphics and micro-management have made it sadly unplayable. The entire game is spent slowly moving units around the map and cutting down trees. (Why do you need trees to build X-wing fighters anyway?!?!?) Please save your money for a decent game like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Maybe Lucas will pay everyone back for buying this stinker of a game...

Summary: the pc game equal to star wars chess
Review: Ok, you know how companies will take a well known game like chess or monopoly and use a trademark characters to create special editions? Well Galactic Battlegrounds should be titled:

Age of Empires: Star Wars edition

This is the Age of Empires II core engine down to the T. All they have done is swap out the graphics, sounds and menu items.
It's that bad and it works about as well as Starwars chess or Starwars monopoly in the end. Still, it seems the best Star Wars titles from Lucus Arts are developed off some other companies successful game engines, and this game is much better than Force Commander.

Buy if you must.

Summary: Micromanagement Hell...
Review: This game is based on the Age of Empires engine, and it shows. The excellent graphics and sound, unfortunately, are overcome by the same tedious micromanagement and endless click-repetition, that spoiled the fun of the original AOE games. By the time the first mission was over, I was so sick of herding stray men back to the group (while my main group stood passively by, absorbing and being cut down by enemy fire), that I uninstalled it. The thing that set Starcraft apart from the group was its ease of play, smooth interface and balance - you could experience the thrill of building a base and then crushing your opponent with overwhelming firepower, without worrying about endlessly sending the same man out to harvest food over and over. A single click with a Starcraft character would send it harvesting minerals until you told it otherwise. In SWGB (and AoE), you have to keep clicking over and over to harvest food and other necessities. Enemy (and friendly) AI, is essentially nonexistent, as your men depend entirely upon you for direction to do even the simplest tasks. It's unfortunate, too, because I've been waiting along time for a decent Star Wars RTS. Guess I'll have to keep waiting.

Summary: This Game is Great........
Review: because you can control a massive amount of at most 200 units which is awesome. I can create a ton of At-At Walkers which is one of the best ...-kicking unit in the game plus they look cool too. Almost everything about it is great except if your an AOE player. If you are and your playing this game it might be a little annoying. Like the Power Cores in the games which you have to build. ... Now for HARD CORE STAR WARS FANS who beleive that every single detail should be realistic according to the books and movie you'll see some things oddly when you get it. Like the advance TIE BOMBER is really two payload pods on top of each other. You might wonder why the hell didn't "They use the Scimitar Bomber?" Or use the A-Wing as the advance fighter for the Alliance instead of a better X-Wing...

Overall this game is great for beginners who never played AOE and Star WArs Fans across this galaxy and Fun to have an army of Battle Droids or Legions of Stormtroopers and many other units. And don't forget those At-At Walkers, dang SWEET.

I give this game FOUR AND i SAY FOUR STARS but hey, that's what i think so don't judge me. ...

Summary: Age of Empires Clone
Review: I was really looking forward to this game for months. Finally a Star Wars real time strategy game with the AOE engine. Boo Hoo-- I was disappointed with this game within minutes. It is too much like Age of Empires. The same old building up of unites and structures as well as gathering resources. VERY TEDIOUS. I think I would have been better off playing AOE II again. Get this - the graphics seem slightly worse than the two year old AOE II. If you want a real time strategy game in space stick with STARCRAFT.

Summary: SWGBG is sweet!
Review: In this new game, Lucasarts has definately outdone themselves. The use of the Age of Empires 2 engine makes the game very easy to control and manuever, while the Star Wars twist on it makes it very much worth owning. The tutorial will easily accommidate people who are playing for the first time, and unlike some tutorials, this one keeps a good storyline. The different civilizations you can be each have their own strengths and weaknesses, again like AOE2. It has a very easy learning curve, but the missions are difficult and time-consuming, so you will be playing for a while. The troops, mechs, and fighters and bombers are exact replicas of what they are in the movies, and all seem to match the other on the battlefield.

All in all a pretty good game worthy of a good rating, and a good amount of time spent playing it. When you've beaten all the campaigns, don't worry, you can always play multiplayer, make your own campaigns, or download some from other people on the net. Happy hunting!

Summary: Bought it - 4 and a HALF stars.
Review: I had to write another review after buying the game. Tech 4 is so much fun. The Empire and The Trade Federation are so far my favorite races to use. This game uses the AOK engine with Star Wars characters. If you like AOK and you like Star Wars your gonna like this game. Air units in my mind are too weak and kinda useless, unless you get an opponent without ANY air defenses. I really like the AT AT's and being able to build troops without housing with the Trade Federation is really cool.
The Fortress units and shield generators really add to the strategys you can use. Basically you only need to know a few things do you like Age of Kings ??? Do you like Star Wars ? Then you'll most likely enjoy this game. It runs on low end systems just fine, just like Age of Kings did/does. So if you answered yes to the above questions and were worried about your low end end system ? Don't ! Buy the game. It's not perfect and a patch would be nice to fix some VERY minor complaints but it's worth the money. There's always room for an expansion later too, let's hope it's as good as conquerors was for AOK.
