Rating: Summary: A Very Good Portrayal of Today's Events Review: With war in Iraq looming, this game brings a very chilling sense of reality. With an oil crisis facing the world because of an Iraqi led embargo on the west, the United Nations security council grants the United States and Russia to invade Iraq and Azerbaijan. In this game you must build oil wells to create resource points. You then use these to build your vehicles, structures, bombers, and even nuclear bombs. With a variety of weaponry of today's army (except infantry), you command American forces in invading Iraq, Russian forces in invading Ajerbaijan, and Iraqi forces trying to battle against the U.S. The only negative point which keeps it from getting 5 stars is that you have to speed the game up while developing weapons and technologies. Other than that, it's excellent!
Rating: Summary: Best RTS of 2001 Review: World War 3: Black Gold is easily the best RTS of 2001, with great graphics, AI, and most importantly, replayability. There are similarities between this game and Earth 2150 and The Moon Project because they were all developed by the same team...however WW3: BG eliminates the frustration that accompanied those games and lets you focus more on things that matter - such as watching the enemy get blown to tiny bits. The resource collection model is reminiscent of Warzone 2100 -- build an oil well and forget about it. It's all beautifully executed, with customizable units and research decisions that affect the way your war is fought. You can win in multiple ways. Quite often building a gigantic assault force of cheap units (like a Zergling Rush on Starcraft) will get you nowhere since you also have to keep those units supplied. Strategic retreats to resupply and repair, just like real wars, are the order of the day here. And as far as the lack of infantry goes, they would have no point anyway because they would be so underpowered that they would not be a threat at all.
Rating: Summary: The Real Deal Review: World War III: Black Gold is the only real time strategy game you need to own. The gameplay is entertaining and the graphic detail is top notch. If you love armor and helicopters this game is for you. The only drawback is the lack of infantry. If you were disappointed by Real War then World War III: Black Gold is the game for you.
