Summary: The Deepest, Most Detailed Strategy Game In Existence
Review: This game is unlike any other RTS game that is on the market today. Homeworld has a lot more to offer than games of the genre such as Starcraft or Command and Conquer. Never have I been so caught up in a strategy game.
To begin, the graphics of this game are some of the best that I have seen outside of a next-generation video-game platform. Using the unique camera, you can focus on any single ship out of the hundreds you are likely to aquire through the course of the came. Each ship is detailed to perfection, with both their movements and texture mapping. There are many races, each with it's own style of ship, and each style is different. This leads to massive amounts of different looking ships. Never before had I witnessed ships dodge enemy fire on their own. This is completely different than Starcraft or beams fired at the same time. This is all done in a remarkable three-dimensional environment in which you can witness a battle from any angle you choose. The backrounds for the missions are very well done, as well. The nebula and Higaara took my breath away. These al serve to enhance the spactacular mood that is present in this game. These backrounds make your vessels really look like they are floating in an endless void. The graphics are not the only great thing about this game, however.
C&C, in which your forces stand still while they are assualted by the enemy. Never before had I been able to witness every bullet hit the hull of a massive cruiser, or been able to see so many ion-The gameplay and control for this game simply cannot be matched. This game requires much more intellegence than your average RTS. Like many games of it's genre, Homeworld requires you to collect resources and to research new technologies. However, there is a lack of resources, which really makes you plan what you are going to do with them. Your ships transfer from mission to mission, which means no suicide brigades like the ones that can be used in Starcraft. You are constantly ambushed, which only adds to the difficulty. In this game you can aquire vast amounts of ships (over 100), but it is always easy to keep control of them with Homeworld's control system. You can effortlessly rotate the camera and move your ships. The control scheme is very easily learned with the help of the game's excellent tutorial. The game's sixteen missions, while small in number, shouldn't dissapoint. Each is massive and unique. In some missions you may have to destroy asteroids flying at your mothership. In others you have to trade with other races, or destroy an enemy fleet. Each will take several hours to complete and some are not that easy. I clearly rememember the fourteenth mission, in nwhich there are over a hundred ships in a sphere around your target. Every mission has something waiting to jump out and suprise you. Don't expect your mission objectives to remain constant.
This game has one great story, as well. The manual gives an extremely detailed back story, but the game has so much more. You slowly hear more and more as you go along, and it is almost of hollywood quality. It is just full of suprises. The cutscenes between each mission are expertly crafted. They seem hand drawn rather tha done through CG. This just enhances the mood of the game.
How could I not mention the music? Rather than the heavy metal that is used in other strategy games, this game uses the classical music of old. Each piece fits with the section of the game which you are playing, whether it be heated battle or the movements of your ships across a great void. The mood of the game is greatly enhanced by the music. Homeworld's soundtrack is awesome.
This game is simply massive. There are many different ways to play. You can be defensive, only attacking when you are attacked, or you can built a massive force to hunt and destroy your enemies. Bigger isn't always better, as I fouind out on the fifth mission, when I watched 70 scouts be destroyed in a matter of seconds by an ambush of eight assualt frigates.
This game is simply amazing and Relic deserves all the praise that it has recieved with this masterpiece. The bar has been raised for strategy games, and the genre has been changed forever.

Summary: Incredible
Review: Homeworld is more than a technical and gaming masterpiece, but an absolute work of art. If you don't have the hardware to run it at maximum detail, it's time to upgrade. After one good firefight with an armada of ships, you'll be glad you did. The soundtrack is also exemplary- far better than most of the genre. The game is very stable, has remarkably few bugs for such a complex piece of software, and has a remarkably intuitive control system. If you've ever played a real time strategy game, it shouldn't take you more than a half hour to master the controls.

Aside from its technical excellence, the game has a compelling background and storyline. The single play missions are excellent, and the plot really draws you in. They are also quite challenging and- unlike any other RTS I've played- cumulative. That is to say, your fleet carries over into the next mission, so it's in your best interest to not go suicidal just to pass one. Despite the fact that the single play plot is linear, it is still far more engrossing than any other single-play RTS I've gone through.

More than the typical strategy game, this is really one of those titles that has a dominant tactical aspect. Just because you can build tons of units doesn't mean you'll win. For example, you could have a hundred strike craft, but if your enemy has invested in a gravity well generator or missile destroyer, an attack would be suicide. Resource gathering is also far more difficult than in most other RTS titles, and if you don't protect your gathering operations you WILL be dead. Between protecting your gatherers and your mothership, you'll have plenty to worry about. Despite this, the game doesn't force you to micromanage things. You can assign tactics to your units and have them do the thinking, which leaves you to sit back and watch the fireworks. It's the deployment and distribution of your forces that will decide the outcome.

On the aforementioned graphical aspect- it is amazing. The level of detail is on par with Freespace, but you'll see much more of the action and many more units engaging in combat. There are many detailed ships and objects in both fleets, and even more in single play. While the opposing Kushan and Taiidan fleets are nearly identical in capabilities and armaments, their ships look radically different. It's fun to change sides from time to time, just to look at the different vessels.

So, if you haven't tried this out yet, now's your chance. Even if you don't like sci-fi or strategy, you should take a look. Homeworld is bound to impress.

Summary: Beautiful and Glorious
Review: Someone first loaned me this game saying that I must play it, seeing as how I had gotten so attached to Starcraft when it came out back in the day(still a great game). I put the game in, ran it, was a little confused at first by the menus but you learn quickly. Once I got in the game....I couldn't believe it. The nebula levels are beautiful. I loved it, and it also has the single best storyline of any game I've played...but that's me. Truly, this is a must buy.

Summary: Great Game
Review: This game is one of the best space/battle games that I have ever played, It is right up there with Starcraft and Star Wars Rogue Squadron, It is more like a a mix of both, Homeworld has great graphics and is fun to play, The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the skrimish CPU is hard even on the "easiest" setting. You should really get this game!

Summary: The best strategy game ever created
Review: With an incredible assortment of ships Homeworld is the most versatile strategy game ever. Ships can be mixed and matched to create a deadly force. And unlike other games two of the same units don't keep harming eachother at the same interval each time. If u play it right two scouts can kill five. There are so many options: cloaking, special attacks and different maneuvers. This game is out of this world. GET THIS GAME IF U LIKE STRATEGY GAMES.
