Summary: Meh.
Review: It's OK. Interface isn't that great, with the 'right click' menus. Not as good as the Baldur's Gate games. Go buy them first, and then get this one if you're desperate for something to play.

Summary: Remember Gauntlet?
Review: I will admit my bias, and enable you, dear reader, to take from it what you will: I enjoy role-playing games with stories. As such, I have been monstrously disappointed in this game. The closest analogy I can give is that it is much like the old stand-up game Gauntlet, wherein a collection of heroes ran around killing monsters, acquiring potions and keys, and comically eating food. It is an old-fashioned dungeon-stomp, an endless cycle of "Kill the monsters, get the treasure." The pretty spell graphics that are so touted by the designers do not come close to making up for a drudgerous party management system (no click&drag windows; horrible isometric viewpoints which create an inability to see party members/treasure/monsters behind walls; not allowing party members to scout, forcing everyone to stay close together...).

Beyond this, the game gets boring quickly. There are basically no characters, a very weak storyline, and the player is left with nothing other than killing more monsters, getting more treasure, and secretly wishing for a voice to pronounce eerily, "Warrior needs food... badly."

Summary: STAY AWAY!!! Save your money for IWD 2 or anything else
Review: Worst of the worst!!! This game has glitches, glitches and more glitches!! Spells and magic items that are so cumbersome to use you dont bother. You have items that will kick you out of the game back to your PC desktop over and over again when you try to pick them or anything else up. Fights that you cant leave the area or fight because the enemies are in a locked rooms that you dont yet have the key for but the fight was engaged because you went near the room. A store keep that wont trade with you and nothing to do but dump all your items. No place to stash or store anything. I wish i had given up weeks ago and didnt finish this nightmare! I wish I could get my money back. Horrible to navigate maps. Orginially we purchased this game to play multiplayer but gave up after weeks and weeks of trying to "resolve" all the problems getting everyone on and playing at the same time. Single player game started out relatively fun....but after getting kicked out time and time again, i gave up frustrating the daylights out of myself. I would rate it a minus five stars if possible. Save yourself weeks of headaches but anything else!!!

Summary: Where's the plot
Review: The designers of this game seemed to have forgotten the storyline in their rush to create as many bad guys as possible. All the rooms are the same, and the game quickly becomes five levels of find orcs, kill orcs, find aombies, kill zombies. The entire game is spent in battle, and only in the last half of the game do you get to go somwhere outside and different. Overall, the plot is weak and you just battle, rest, battle, rest, etc. the sorcere's ability is nice, since you don't have to memorize specific spells, and its always nice to blasta group of drow with a wand of cone of cold, but the game is very underveloped and patch dependant.

Summary: Worst Game I Have Ever Bought
Review: I am a huge CRPG fan, particularly the Baldur's Gate/Planescape/Icewind Dale line of games, but including others such as Return to Krondor, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, etc. I was looking forward to PoR with great enthusiasm. Boy, what a disappointment. I would give it ZERO stars if the Amazon interface would allow it.

The plot is terrible, undeveloped and difficult to discern. The maps are unnecessarily difficult to navigate. Party movement is tedious and cumbersome. Combat is boring, slow and predictable, and the spell/magic item casting interface is incredibly difficult to use effectively.

This is the only computer game I have ever bought that I didn't finish. Truly awful. Please, don't waste your money.

Summary: This is the WORST game on which I have ever wasted my money
Review: I would give this thing ZERO stars if the interface would let me.

I am and have been a huge fan of RPGs in general, particularly the Baldur's Gate series (including Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment) and Return to Krondor. I looked forward to the release of Pool of Radiance with great anticipation.

PoR was, without question, the biggest disappointment as a game I have ever encountered. The action and combat are slow and repetitive. Movement and travelling on the maps is arduous and stupidly difficult. The character screens are unintuitive and difficult to use. The spell and magic item casting mechanism is incredibly unwieldy and slow.

This game really, really stinks. It is the only PC game I have ever purchased and not finished. I mean, it is awful. Terrible. Unspeakably bad. Do not, under any circumstance, waste your money on this piece of garbage.

Summary: Unplayable
Review: Pool of Radiance had one of those glittery presences on the internet, where everyone noticed and talked about it, but no one really thought too much about its potential problems. I bought the game unaware of how many problems there were. I quickly discovered all of them, and here are three.
1) The combat system is rigidly turn-based with little or no complexity to add excitement. (zombie hacks, paladin hacks= noise).
2) As with any true rpg fan, story comes first and foremost. POR simply had none. Perhaps a think tank of CPA's came up with this tedious dungeon crawl. I don't know.
3) There were far too many bugs in the system, and I experienced three crashes in the first couple of hours of game-play.

If you have extra money to spend, go buy BGII or DEUS EX. Or if you really want a fast paced dungeon crawl, buy Icewind Dale. POR without the pretension.

Summary: Some will love it-but you need a guide
Review: I personally am enjoying the game.
Despite all the bad reviews, I wanted to try it and I was also tempted to have a D and D module included in the collector's edition. I got it and I found the game is much better than I expected after the recent patch.

If you like to see how table top miniature combat game comes to a life to PC, this game is for you and you will love it. It exactly gives you the feeling of miniature combat and I liked it a lot. I do not play miniature combat game myself but have been very interested and this PC game was my answer for it.

Combat becomes somewhat repetitive but still many tactical consideration makes each combat a pleasant one.

I have noticed that for this game, strategy guide turns out to be very helpful. Otherwise, dungeon is too big and you could easily be lost about the quest that you are following for. In fact, strategy guide is very good and it will add to your D and D collection.

Summary: Overall...a Fun Game
Review: After reading the many negative reviews for this game complaining about system faults (Window is an unstable environment) and what if and why not comments I thought I would write a review that just talk about the game itself.

As far as comparing the game to the actual tabletop game. It is like comparing a movie to the book. I myself like the idea being able to see what a dwaven fighter with his trustie Two Handed 5-foot Battleaxe looks like fighting side-by-side with his huge Half-Orc Barbarian party member. Plus, watching spells take affect is better than imagining what they would look like.

The game does a good job in giving you enough diversity to use your imagination by creating a team of your own desire. I like the automatic set of points (all abilities default to 8). You are then given 25 additional which you can appoint to any ability you want rather spending all day trying to come up with the charter with perfect rolls or getting a very weak character. This type of creation gives personality to each chacater but, no gods or scrubs. Plus, during the game they give you bonus ability points and items that improve your weak abilities or increase your strengths.

Gameplay is very entertaining. Just enough graphics to keep you visually stimulated yet, more than enough of a storyline to keep you thinking and creating a strategy in exploring and even during the turn-based fighting scenerios. The turn based fighting is very random as far as dice rolls (sometimes you roll like a stud and sometimes like a dud) are fair. Although, at times multiple misses and failure to disarm traps can be fustrating, it provides a realistic view that things don't always go to plan.

The graphics for this RPG are pretty good(similar to Diablo Series) unlike most RPG where graphics are given up for game play. The storyline is interesting but, very broad. I would advise the game book or you will be roaming everywhere.

The game play is a little slow but, it makes ups for this in graphics. I would recommend this game if you are a RPG fan and want a little bit more than a hack and slash game but, would like some nice visuals to go with the role playing.

Yes, there are a few features such as hotkey or keyboard usage (extensive mouse work)and easier inventory management that could use improvements but, in the end it is all about having fun and this game is definitely fun. Remember to always Save during play.

Summary: This game is the king of stink
Review: I would go into a long explanation of the various issues that this game suffers from, but needless to say, scores of others have coverd that ground already. Trust them. They were right. Save your money. This game is a 50 dollar sinkhole.
