Summary: Great idea, but not all it's cracked up to be...
Review: Why does every new Myst release have bugs riddling it? I keep hoping that one of these days a new Myst program will come out bug-free. That quest goes on...

This is a wonderful idea for the original Myst game, and the graphics are gorgeous. The problem is that the game drags horribly even on a high-end machine! What's up with that? Why won't it recognize the fact that I have Direct3D, and why won't it physically let me adjust it even with the two patches available? Will they EVER get Myst right at this rate...?

Summary: Better off Waiting for the price to go down.
Review: I bought real Myst for $... having been drawn in by the amazing graphics and simplicity of gameplay. It was fun and the graphics were amazing. I stayed up late playing it a few nights. The only problem is that it doesn't last long enough to get your moneys worth. A game that is $... and up should have a lot of gameplay, and while this takes a bit of time to beat it should take more. Wait a year or two to buy it and see if the price goes down, or borrow it from a friend.

Summary: Smooth as glass
Review: Since others have complained about problems getting their system to run realMyst, I just want to say that it runs beautifully on my computer. The movement is so clean that it almost seems as if I go places just by thinking about them. All of the music and beauty are still there, without the annoying shift from one still scene to another that was the only real drawback of the original Myst....

Summary: Protector of Magic
Review: This was the most incredible game I have ever played!! Adventure, Emotion, Beauty, Strategy, and a little bit of Horror. The scenery was enchanting, breathtaking. Playing it made you feel like a REAL hero (I sometimes even caught myself nodding and verbally responding to things that were said or done in the game). I recommend this game to anyone, because in this game, you are not only saving the world and the imagination, you are also saving the world of imagination.

Summary: Myst III, Exile
Review: Although, Graphics, sounds and everything else is flawless as usual, the game is way to predictable if you have played Myst and Riven previously. Please give me a game that's really challenging. Way overpriced if you ask me, sorry.

Summary: This game should run smoother
Review: I am an avid Myst/Riven/MystIII fan. I bought realMyst to see the advanced graphics added to it..ie: Day,Night,Rain,Sun,and special effects. The game is really choppy. I even advanced my system, but it didnt help. I believe you shouldnt have to go any kind of frustration when playing a game and this one had a lot of choppiness and delayed reactions even after I upgraded my system. Too frustrating.

Summary: Nice game. But one pointless age
Review: Myst was a great game, so i decided to get the 3D version. I of course beat it again, and visited the new age "Rime" but it was pointless, i spent awhile trying to figure out how to get there. "Rime" had nothing to do with the game.

Summary: Try the demo- controls & speed are fine; gfx gorgeous!
Review: I've only downloaded the 46MB demo from GameSpot so far- haven't played the real game- but if the game plays like the demo, the control and speed issues mentioned in the review are not a problem at all. I won't really try rating the game itself, but this is my estimate.

I would suggest that others try downloading the demo (if you can handle 46megabyte download :-) ) , and see for yourself.

As noted in another review, even with no manual I quickly figured out that the "hand" pointer icon changes (thumb disappears, or hand opens) when it is over an object you can manipulate. I never ran into movement problems while trying to manipulate objects, and I didn't seem to hit time problems, I moved pretty quickly through the world & the puzzles. I never had problems turning either. I moved pretty easily w/ the mouse over narrow stairs and walkways etc. (glad Myst doesn't let you fall off & die, like other games!) Only difficulty was sometimes getting caught on the wrong stairs when both up&down were right next to each other etc. but I just backed out and walked more carefully, went fine.

You can also control the brightness (key, for exploring tunnels, dark rooms, and outside at night!!) , with Ctrl-Shift-+ & - (numeric pad + - keys.) Otherwise, it is very dark and difficult to see key items sometimes!!

I have a PIII-800 system, 256MB ram, nVidia-TNT2-pro gfx card, and the graphics were completely smooth and fast even in 1024x768x16bit. They were beautiful! Waves move, raindrops fall (in stereo surround sound), lightning strikes & lights up the roiling clouds, fish swim by underwater, etc.- gorgeous! Use it an expensive screensaver if you don't like the game :-) The Myst world is so beautiful (and beautifully rendered here!), the 3D engine is great as it lets you turn and explore and just sight-see, as the game deserves. I also like just moving through the world like a FPS game- eg walking w/ constant movement- as opposed to the "click & turn/move" interface of the old game.

I'm looking forward to buying this game, or maybe MystIII:exile, since they share the same 3D engine. I never got around to finish ing the first Myst on my old 040 Mac, these graphics & 3D movement breathe new life into it!

Summary: realMYST
Review: Real Myst is basically the same game as Myst or Myst Masterpiece. What's diffrent about it is that you get to see everything with 360 degrees of veiwing space. A special addition is the Rime age, an age new to Myst fans!

Summary: Best Game Ever !!!
Review: I can't believe the number of people who find it hard to get around in RealMyst. I'm over 50 years old and don't have that much gaming experience, but I found that getting around was quite easy. And the Graphics are incredible! In the Stoneship Age, I actually felt damp and cold and hurried to get in out of the rain! In the new Rime Age, I was freezing, but soon warmed up when I lit the fire and the ice started melting from the walls! And the sound was also fantastic. Finally, the water lapping at the docks sounded like water. I knew what I was hearing without having to look around. This is not a step backwards, but a very ingenious remake of the original. It made me want to go out and buy Riven, which I did. I wish they could make "RealRiven".

It does require a lot of video memory and a good sound card, and some of the areas are quite dark. But, I still highly recommend this game!

I wish more companies would put out more non-violent games like this -- games that make kids think instead of getting excited over how many people or aliens they kill!

This game is worth every penny -- and should have been advertised better!
