Summary: Every hardcore gamer's dream, sadly no multi-player mode.
Review: Honestly speaking, this is probably the best fps game I've ever gotten my hands on. I purchased this game quite a while ago but to this date I play it again and again. One unique feature that this game includes is the "bullet-time" feature. This game is the first of its kind ever, to introduce a temporary, slow motion move completely rotatable by 360 degrees. I believe this technique has been borrowed from movies such as "The Matrix". If you are deeply in to games such as "Counter Strike" and "Soldier of Fortune", you'll surely enjoy this game.

It may be slightly disturbing for people with a faint heart as the game is about a guy on a murderous rampage fighting an entire mob for personal vengeance. There is a lot of blood and gore and the weaponry available is amazing and unimaginably realisitic in working. The only part I did not like about the game was that it does not have a multi-player mode and it's probably because of the "bullet-time" feature. Besides that, I would recommend this game to anyone on any day. I just can't wait for part two to come out!

Summary: Constipated Vigilante Wreaks Revenge
Review: Payne is a magnicent game to start with - everyone else here has described the realism the graphics portray and the attention to detail like bullets splintering the walls, smashed cash registers spewing notes etc. These are very nicely done, although most games of Max's ilk feature such eye candy.
My main point here is that Max Payne is a great experience for the first, say, ten stages and then monotony sets in. Big time. By the time I'd reached the industrial estate level (with the cranes and forklifts) I was thoroughly sick of the 'kick open door, shoot guys in room then repeat' gameplay.
Sure, Max looks better than Gordon Freeman, but at least HalfLife introduced different scenarios and situations from time to time.
Two more quibbles. The Matrix style 'Bullet Time' effect is nigh-on useless. Fair enough, your enemies slow down. But so do you, so you can't exactly do anything that you couldn't have done in 'normal time'. Lastly, the 'dream sequences' are awful. Annoyingly awful. Drab mazes straight out of Lara Croft's garden. About as stimulating as Snake on your Nokia.
Although it sounds like I'm slamming Max, I'm not. The finer points have been listed already so I thought that the weaker qualities should be addressed.

Summary: At this time, one of the best games in the pc games world
Review: Max Payne transports you to the interior of a city full with wickedness and bad habits, where your you are one it kills that he doesn't plan to be given for conquered. The visual effects, the quality of the graphics, the sound, the realism of the weapons and the interface with the user are worthy of admiration. The history is excessively effective and it puts under an obligation to dive in it and to continue each detail until its end.

In summary, it is a game worthy of being played even when to be able to make it it's necessary to buy a new PC dice the requirements of the program that are quite strong. I believe that it would be willing to renovate my PC just to have the pleasure of playing Max Payne

Summary: Max Payne is ok
Review: MAX PAYNE is a nice game. The reason my score is missing a star is because of the proluges to each episode which are very spooky and the odd angle everyone holds their weapons at.

Summary: Feel the payne....
Review: Extreme fun, extreme camp, extreme story. Fun is the best word to describe this game. Pure and absolute fun. The nostalgic approach to the storyline and the music pull together the stylistic gameplay in a way i've never seen before. The graphics are superb and level load times are somewhat quick. I believe that this game has surpassed all before it and ,when the sequel is released, it will be a challenge to create a more atmospheric game than the first. You could buy games that are more in depth (deus-ex) or more challenging (jedi knight 2) but there are few games that set the mood so accurately as max payne. It is a must have for anyone who's ever enjoyed a good black and white detective movie of the 40's and 50's. It's also a must have for anyone who wants a powerful first person shooter with a lot of action. Watch out for the system specs, though. The game requires a steep system in order to get the full effect of graphics. A+++++

Summary: I know my first person shooters, this is the worst
Review: If u want a good shooter game, get Red Faction. I have a good pc so i wanted to save 10 bucks buying this game for pc instead of ps2. I thought it would be a good game. NOPE. Since u cant use a controller for this stupid game, i have to use the mouse and keyboard. when some1 attacks u from behind in ps2, u turn aronund and aim with the right analog, which is EXTREMEMLY easy and it always hits the spot. In this version, u turn around with the arrows (which are far away from the action buttons) and u have to aim with the mouse which is extrememly sensitive. I beat the first 3 levels before realizing that i cant do this without a controller. Rockstar could have done better, like they did with gta3, which is the best game.

Summary: A great start
Review: I really liked this game. It had great graphics, the best I have ever seen. The Bullet-Time feature is without a doubt the coolest thing ever in this game. Slowing down to slow motion, seeing the bullets, a scene right out of the Matrix, but you're controlling it, very very cool. The storyline was interesting, but was cheesy and too in-depth at times. In order to get the full effect you have to really be paying attention and have a great memory. I didn't buy the game to get into a deep story line, the game needs one, true, but they could have simplified it a little bit, I thought the comic style way of telling was interesting, but I didn't care for and lost patience. Like many other reviewers have said, the first 5 hours of this game were totally awesome, a brand new game, great effects, MATRIX TIME!!! But then you start to get the feeling of Deja Vu. The game becomes way to repetitive. Enter room, clear room, collect guns, ammo, health, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Get what I mean? I also thought this game was way too short. It only took me a weekend to beat. I feel like this game is a really great start, and was worth the money that I paid for it, but it leaves much room for improvement. If you haven't purchased and played Deus Ex, I recommend you do that instead of buying this game.

Summary: Remedy Entertainment Hits a Home Run with Max Payne
Review: This offering from Remedy is fantastic.
-There's a nice, dark story-line (literally a graphic-novel)
-Gameplay is solid and straightforward (simple).
-Variety of realistic weapons (John Woo would be proud)
-Plenty of thugs to blow away (some fodder, some formidable)
-Bullet-time! (yes you get to move like Neo)

You play NYPD detective, Max Payne, that loses his family to some drug-crazed junkies. Desperate for revenge, you join the DEA as an undercover agent and attempt to infiltrate NY's underworld to discover & destroy who is behind the synthetic drug, Valkyr, that the punks (and plenty of other losers) who killed your wife and kid were high on. Unfortunately, your best friend in the DEA, the only man who knew you went undercover, is dead, and you've been framed for his murder!

The game is well polished, has great weapon characteristics and modeling, and will even auto-adjust to your ability. You rock, you'll be rocked; you suck, you won't see as much action. There's little wonder why it got so many 'best game 2001' awards. Highly recommend for 17+ year-olds (some 'adult' content).

Summary: A Gaming Convert.
Review: Not usually one to enjoy first or third-person shooter games, I found this one downright addictive. The most impressive part of the game is the powerful story with interesting twists and turns that keep the player in suspense right until the very end. The actual game is gorgeous, and more inexperienced gamers, such as myself, will find the game's ability to conform to a level of difficulty that suits the individual player a godsend. Overall, the only thing I don't like about the game is that it ended too soon and now I'm not sure what I ought to play.

Review: This is a great "no think" game. Ilove this game it's just the way I like it, short and sweet.Yes, it's true, only 3 chapters(21 levels). But come on, it's better than those stupid rpg's that drag on and on and on and on and on and on about stupid stuff no one cares about.I think that the story is great in this, a classic including the "dream levels." Slow mo is sweet, giving you a big advantage, you can AIM in real time but your enemies AIM in slow mo.You SHOOT in slo mo as do your enemies. I also love all the great classic comedy, something ghost recon and some those other games cant give you. I've played through this once on easy, and I'll say, sometimes it seems to easy, and others, it is SOOOOOOOOO chalenging(in a good way, such as when you are off to kill the noturios ganster,Jack Lipino, who is also a gothic typeof guy,you must kill so many men to get to him, with them throwing molotov cocktails at you while your fighting off 2 guyes with your 2 ingrams,SWEET).So the bottom line is max payne is a great game with tons of replayablity for anyone.
