Summary: Worth the money - a very good game!
Review: Before writing, I wanted to see how other reviewers liked this game. Most of the complaints are on hardware issues, the others are comparisons between the PC version and PSX (uh, why?) Anyways, I run this on a P266 with a Voodoo II just fine.

Basically, I spent most of this past weekend stuck in front of the computer thanks to this extremely addictive and involving game. I finally finished the first CD and am already giving this game a big thumbs up. Best part is I have three more CD's to go.

The game is *very* beautiful. The cutscenes are incredible and you jump in and out of movie scenes so much it's almost like it's part of the game. In fact, the last time I died was because I thought I was watching a cutscene when in fact it was part of the game.

The cons - music (ughhh...) a very important requirement for me personally. Lame midi music, just like the PC version of FF7. Almost bad enough for me to drop it to 4 stars. Also, the guardian force spells are beautiful to watch, but become tiring after the thousandth time. The problem is you have to summon these creatures over and over to defeat particularly difficult monsters. Gets tedious. Lastly, the help files and instruction manuals give you the basics, but don't get into the more advanced functions of the game. I'm still unsure what many of the spells and commands do.

However, these negatives don't take away from the fact that this game is as fun to watch as it is to play. Squaresoft really has developed a flagship title that is unique in many ways and has yet to be duplicated by any other maker. The game is actually very linear (think of Rebel Assault), yet for some reason it leaves the player feeling much more involved and satisfied at the results. Think of being part of an epic movie.

One CD down - 3 to go... can't wait!

Summary: Final Fantasy VIII
Review: AWESOME GAME, Need I say more? Only bad thing is that you need a good graphics accelerator for this game to LOOK awesome...

Summary: I have never regreted buying a Final Fantasy
Review: I have been a Final Fantasy Fan ever since the very first game (made for the Nintendo). I have not completed this game yet, but so far, I am impressed. One of the problems I had with FF7 PC was that the movies were too slow. Thankfully they corrected this problem for this game. The movies are so well done. You must get this game. I have read other reviews. I just have to say that the majority of people will not regret it. Buy it!

Summary: Playstation version DEFINITELY IS NOT better than pc version
Review: Using the pc version with a fast computer instead of the OLD playstation makes the game more enjoyable and better overall. Compared to FFVII, FFVIII has a large selection and good layout for battle commands/functions and I'd have to say that this game is quite possibly the best rpg that I've played.

Summary: Great game but has bugs
Review: Overall I think this game is an improvement over FF7. The characters are more realistic and the story is better. Just so you know though the software version has bugs such as starting with 81 million in money, a ridiculous amount of items, and reaching a point where the program keeps crashing. Squaresoft/Electronic Arts is aware of the problem but they told me that it may be two or three weeks before the problem is resolved. I think the game is well worth waiting for but thought you might want to be aware of this problem before you purchase FF8.

Summary: Best FF Yet!
Review: I've been a FF fan since the very first edition on Nintendo. FF8 is the culmination and preview of Final Fantasies to come. Not only does the story line move smoothly but the graphics are amazing. There is a nice balance between game play graphics and movie sequences which is especially evident in the ending. Unlike other Final Fantasies, the FF8 storyline is the focus which lends coherency to the quest at hand. I highly recommend this game to those of you who are FF fans and to those of you who have yet to experience this game. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Definately not a good choice for an RPG on the PC
Review: I guess if you like to have variety in your RPGs, you can play this game to help you figure out the good RPGs from the bad ones on the PC. I'll admit, this is a nice game...on the PSX. But on the PC, it doesn't compare to Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Septerra Core, or numerous other RPGs on the PC. The dialogue sucks, the plot is more or less a re-hash of FF7, the battles take WAY too long, and the music is horrible when compared to earlier Final Fantasies. If you want a better console RPG on PC, go get FF7.

Summary: The verdict on the PC port of the psx game Final Fantasy8
Review: For all you people out there who don't know the "Final Fantasy" series the flagship title of Squaresoft you all should slap yourself in the head cause you don't know what you're missing on. This is a great game if it wasn't originally on the psx...it's just the same game with no improvement except some graphical upgrades when casting spells, and summoning guardian forces. It's dissapointing to see that it's the exact port of the playstation. And all you PC gamers out there who love 3D graphics, don't expect it to see it here...the game has dated 640*480 resolution, I think that Squaresoft should've put a little more effort their PC ports, but if you overlook those bad details, this game is truely worthy to be titled "Final Fantasy". I really think you should sacrifice your precious game time into this classic rpg...final verdict...get it...

Summary: ummm....consistency would be nice
Review: I have just one thing to say. The demo is no indicator of the finished product. It ran fine on my system so I figured that the finished game would as well. This is NOT the case. I counted down the days until this game was released only to find out that my 4 mb 3d accelerator was "inadequate" to run ff8. What the hell is this? If the demo is a small part of the whole game wouldn't it have the same hardware requirements? As it is I can't risk buying this game. I definitely will buy it...when I get a new system because it is a great game. Anyone who has info on the hardware REALLY needed to run this game, please send it my way.
