Summary: Good fun, must buy for any and all PC gamers
Review: Well this is Westwood's 4th C&C RTS game, and it's GREAT as usual. I gave this 4 1/2 stars, but I rounded that to 5 to display on the title.

Red Alert 2, like all it's predecesors, is a strategy/war game by Westwood,a strategy gaming company owned by the huge Electronic Arts for a while now. It features 2 campaigns, 1 for each side, that walk you through the plot and train you for the regular battles ahead. There is a skirmish mode, which lets you play a multiplayer-style game with the AI. I once used this mode to re-inact the Bay of Pigs invasion, there are so many little options. True fun comes, though, with multiplayer mode, which is the main focus of the game.

Although in previous C&Cs, especially Tiberian Sun, there was a quite a lot of blood and gore when an infantry guy got killed, Red Alert 2 has NO Blood and NO Gore. In fact, when an infantryman is killed now, sometimes he'll say things like "Do'h!" and then fall over and disappear. Still, it's rated "T"like most strategy games. No swearing, either; the president says in the intro movie, "I wouldn't give a wooden nickel about your legacy."

The story is simple: after Red Alert (original), where the Soviets invade Europe in about 1940 instead of Germany because of some complex time-travel assasination that nobody really understands, the Allies install a puppet leader
in Russia. Seeming at first to be an advocate of peace, he later invades the Allies' main supplier and most important fighter the U.S.A. using mind-control and quite a few other intresting technologies. FMV movies will tell you most of the plot.

Once again, Westwod has included graphics that succeed in telling the player what is happening, but not state-of-the-art. They have continued to use their MegaVoxel technology, which models the game in a sort of 2D/3D cross but makes
the units look like an army of mold campared to conventional graphics. (Well that's an exaggeration but they're still quite bad-looking). But as I said before, they still let the player see what's happening, and that's enough,
I think.

The good news is that it needs no such 3D graphics cards that some conventional graphics games do.

Like in the original Red Alert you can pick the Allies or Soviets on a quest for world domination. The Soviets have more in the way of general power, the Allies have intresting technologies to counter that, usually involving prisms
or time travel.

The gameplay is fun and easy to learn. Veterans of C&C will know the interface as soon as they load up the game, it's pratically the same except the the waypoints have gotten confusing and a new cursor has been added to tell you if you are in range to fire or if your units must move first. The tank rush
is easier to resist now, you now have better base defenses and you can garrison buildings with troops. Garrisons are extremely powerful, underestimation of them will lead to a failed assualt that costs you 100,000 credits. The gameplay has been made quicker now, allowing you to finish in about 30 minutes to 1 hour. New multiplayer modes include team alliance and others.

The sound is still sharp, and each class of units has a different selection of random words to say when they are selected, moved, and fired. The music is good, provides ambience and has more speach than any other C&C games. No,
not like somebody is actually singing, but rather every once in a while someone'll say something like, "Gentlemen, it's a nuclear device," or something inaudible in the background.

The game is stable, but like all games you'll get a complete hang once in a while.

This game is a good buy and I had some great fun. It has its set of disadvantages, like all games, but it's gotten better and C&C is starting to get better each release. Obviously destined to be in a museum one of these years. The Last Remaining Copy will behind glass, with a demonstration on a computer to the side. The sign'll say, "Red Alert 2. Archeologists confirm
that it was probobly the best game of the year in 2000."

Pros

+Fast paced, action gameplay
+Easy to learn
+Another bumper crop of new units

Cons
-Graphics not quite, eh, state of the art
-Confusing Waypoints.

Summary: Definitely One of the Best Strategy Games
Review: This is an extremely fun game. You should buy it. Now for my oft dreaded review:
GRAPHICS: Nothing special, but not terrible. Units are colorful and easy to tell apart. Some people may not like the "cartoony" look absent from previous C&C games. The scale isn't great(a Grizzly Light Tank is half the size of a baseball stadium)but it's still better then, for instance, StarCraft.
Landscape: Pretty good overall. Water and trees could use some work.
Textures: Uhhhh...
Shadows: Awful.
Effects: Explosions aren't great, but the fire is OK.
GRAPHICS OVERALL: 5.5

GAMEPLAY: Excellent. Very addictive and easy to get into. Only problem: missions are just too easy.
GAMEPLAY OVERALL: 8.5

SOUND: Pretty good. A lot of music tracks BUT- half the units say the same thing.
SOUND OVERALL: 6.5

CREATIVITY: Well...
CREATIVITY OVERALL: 2.5

GAME OVERALL: 9.0
Actually I'm 13. Sorry, amazon.com

Summary: Great real time strategy game, but...
Review: Red Alert 2 is a great real time strategy game. There are two different people to play as, the US and Russia. The game is set slightly in the future, with realistic technology. Some of the missions take a long time to do, since Westwood didn't add a cheat engine to the game. However, the greatest downfall of this game is that it has no map editor. The possibilities of this game are not as great as other real time strategy games, especially those made by Blizzard. This game is one of my favorites, but after comparing to other games, it gets points taken off.

Summary: A Great RTS Game
Review: To be honeset I have owned Red Alert 2 for quite some time and just never said anything about it publicly until now. This game is great! Much better then Red Alert or even Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 keeps a basic concept of all Command and Conquer games but enhances the fun and gameplay in it. The storyline is very well put together even though it's not very realistic. The storyline is simple: The Soviet Union is invading the United States and all of Europe in a revenge attempt from the first war they lost in the original Red Alert. There are 2 campaigns in which you can play. You can play as the Allies and stop the Soviets and destroy them or play as the Soviets and conquer America and the rest of the world. Both campaigns are very interactive and fun in which you fight in major cities throughout the world such as New York, Washington D.C., Miami, St.Louis, Colorado Springs, Paris, Moscow and many more and fight in countries like the United States, France, Russia, Poland, Mexico, Cuba and other territories. Much of the fighting is in an urban enviroments. You can garrison buildings and destroy famous landmarks.
Each side, the Allies and Soviets have their own special units. They both have the basic infantry unit: The American G.I. and the Soviet Conscript. The difference is that the G.I. is stronger and costs more, while Conscipts are weak and cheap to build in mass numbers. Soviet tanks have stronger armor but Allied tanks can have more firepower like Prism or Mirage Tanks. The building is easy: buy it and place it on the ground and go up the tech-tree to become more powerful. Basiclly you build and kill in every mission which can become boring but each mission has its own purpose and which units to build. Each side has a navy and airforce as well, however the American air power is much more powerful then the Soviet Air Force. Getting money is simple by building miners and collecting ore to build buildings, base defense, soldiers etc. The units are not as balanced as they are in Tiberian Sun which makes it more unique for both sides. Each side has superweapons like nuclear missiles or weather storms and even invincible devices or teleporting machines.
There are cut-scene videos in between missions which are very entertaining to watch. Real Actors! *WARNING*Known to be cheesy though. Overall the single-player game is excellent and the graphics are very good and better then Starcraft and the previous Command and Conquer games. Their is great color and building details.
The multiplayer on the internet is good and you can play as 8 differnet nations and have up to 8 players per game. The skirmishes are fun(not internet.) The same details apply and you can play different forms like free for all or deathmatches. The internet is not as well rounded as Starcrafts but still fun. Overall multiplayer is fun. The sound in the game is good and has different mixes to it and the units talk when you click on them. The game concept is fun and controlling hundreds of units can be a challenge but exciting. There is even a basic training course to help you. This game has everything a RTS should have and I have no complaints.

Summary: A great, action packed thrill!
Review: I've never played any of the original Command and Conquer games before, but picked up a copy of Red Alert 2 due to good remarks from gamers. Even on my dull computer:An Activa K6-2 500 MhZ, 152 RAM, and a Voodoo 4 PCI video card that never seems to run good, the game was smooth, with very little slow down, even with hundreds of units on screen. Speaking of units, both the Allies and Russians are well balanced, with one unit beating out the others and so forth. The campaigns are fun and a great challenge, but the cut scenes in between missions is laughable.
Overall, this game is a great buy, and one hell of a blast.

Summary: awsome, with bonus stereotyping!
Review: I bought this game and it's expansion pack (Yuri's Revenge) from a friends recommendation. I have yet to play the expansion, but I can tell you that the Number 2 is some of the greatest moments in gaming that I've had in a while. The graphics could, well, use some upgrading, at least on the individual "human" units. The people are rather chunky and pixilated, but everyting else (buildings, vehicles, explosions) look great, especially at high resolutions. As with any good RTS game, you get your standard Skirmish mode, Campaign, Internet play, and the ability to network through a LAN, but I haven't figured out how to use it yet because it requires more than passing knowledge of networks. Basically, if you have ever played Counter-Strike or any game like that where it just gives you a plain view of your local games, don't expect that in this game. Upon opening up the package, you will see 2 discs, the Soviet (my favorite) and the Allied. There different in ways like unit types, tech trees, and so on. The game is set in the future, so expect to see mind controling devices and tesla coils. At any rate, the story is told through the campaign, and you might want to grab the expansion (Yuri's Revenge) when you beat it, probably because you will be craving even more of this 5-star RTS.

Summary: This Game Rocks!
Review: (Note: This is Writer50's son)

Red Alert 2 features a new storyline (not pertaining to the old one), new units, new graphics, new sounds, and more depth, all of which are pretty good! Some of the old units have new features which add depth to the game. Like a Chrono Miner and the engineers ability to fix bridgers. The graphics are great for a game of this kind and if you know how to, you can edit the game in nearly every way. If you like war-strategy games or you liked Red Alert- Get This!

Some people (like those other than me that wrote a review for this game) don't know what their talking about!
1. For those you complained about the story, they use the word DECEPTION, it isn't cheesy! It could happen!
2. People complaining about new weapons and the year: It's kind of hard to tell what year it takes place in, but the new units used in the game could be developed in the future!
3. Yuri is added to the game as the Second in Command for Russia, is that hard to understand? In the next game, Yuri wants to take over the world :)

This Game Is Great!

Summary: Great Strategy in Multiplayer Mode
Review: I'm a huge fan of the Command and Conquer series, so buying Generals didn't require any thought. We were rewarded with great graphics and amazing multiplayer gameplay.

First, the good. The graphics are quite impressive, definitely a step up from previous games. The various terrains - from snow to sand to grass to concrete - are well done. The trees sway in the wind. The units leave little tracks as they move, the construction of buildings makes you really feel like you're watching an army base get built.

The sound and music is well matched and makes the game feel realistic. Controls all work just the way you'd hope they would - after so many games they really have that down to a science.

On the down side, the usual problems in strategy gaming exist here. pathfinding isn't always perfect, units get stuck against buildings or in chasms. The campaign missions help you learn your skills but aren't extremely challenging.

Still, as with just about every game that comes out today, the built in gameplay is merely a training ground for the real challenge of multiplay. There's no way a computer could compete with the challenge posed by a real human being with experience and knowledge at the other end of the map. This game really shines in multiplayer. The three sets of units are well balanced, and if you get yourself onto a large map with teammates and opponents, you'll be hooked for months.

Skirmish mode is quite fun too, earning medals for different accomplishments.

Definitely a great game for any strategy gaming fan!

Summary: Generals is AMAZING!!!!
Review: The game I am writing a new fiction in a line dating back to 1996, and this game revolves around the events currently happening. This is Command and Conquer Generals, three sides go to war. these are China, the United State, and a terrorist group called the Global Liberation Army try to takeover the world. It sounds like the events of today in a game.
This game has EXCELLENT graphics (which shows what multi-Gigahertz procesors and 128 bit Graphics cards are for,) great gameplay, except for the easy artificial intelligence compared to other great games such as Starcraft, which was probably the best RTS ever made, Command and Conquer, and Warcraft 3. The realistic storyline is a great change from the previous games( such as Red Alert Yuri's Revenge, ect.) A great soundtrack is included, a "general" system lets you recieve different abilities and commands to use. I highly recommend this game:)

Too all of you who hate Generals, go buy Praetorians, thats good, or Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne when it comes out in June.

GENERALS RULES (but Starcraft does too...)

Summary: Very Accessible Strategy Game
Review: This is a game that I ended up liking a lot better than I would have thought. It isn't overly difficult or complex, allowing the strategy-rookie to get into the game easily. This is the kind of game where you can play a few missions and then come back a month later and pick up where you left of, without having to re-play the tutorial.

I would have even given this game 5 stars, if it wasn't for a few details that I didn't care for too much. The interface leaves a bit to be desired. I found myself wishing for easier ways to select and group units. Sometimes, I also wished for the game to give me a bit more feedback about what's going on. For instance, when the GLA attacks my base with a SCUD-storm, why not show where it hit on the mini map? Games like Pretorians show how to do this (at least a little) better.

The other problem with this game is that it lets you get away with too much. The game doesn't force you to use advanced strategy. Often, it is enough to just build up a very large number of troups and send them into battle all at once. In those scenarios, I often wish the game would make me find out a bit more about all the great upgrades and special units that are available. Of course, this is a problem the player could solve :-)

Overall, this is a very good game. Personally, I had a lot of fun with this game. Probably even 5 stars worth. But compared to some other 5-star games, it just didn't seem fair to give this one 5 stars as well. It just isn't quite among the very best. But if you are looking for fun without twisting your brain all too much, then this one is for you...
