Rating: Summary: My first Cd-rom game. Review: This being my first game (and without any info with it), it's great. I have had for about five months now and have completely defeated it with all factions and settings. If I could only find the expantion pack "Alein Crossfire". I have searched the net but no luck 'it's no longer avaliable'. May you faction be strong!
Rating: Summary: Very fun, if you like this type of game Review: This game was (correction, is) fun. It's more fun, of course, if you like this type of game. If you've ever played another one of Sid Meier's games, i.e. Civilazation I, II, and III, then you know what this game is like. The difference between AC and the Civ games is that Civilizations take place in the past on Earth, and Alpha Centauri takes place in the (distant?) future, on a planet in the Alpha Centauri system that the colonists unimaginatively named Planet. If it ever gets boring, as unlikely as this is, then the game is cheater-friendly, allowing, and, indeed, helping, the player to tinker with the different factions, giving the player advantage(s), or disvantage(s) if the game is too easy, or giving the enemy factions advantage(s)/disvantage(s). I highly suggest that you buy this game. I like it much more than Sid Meier's other games, and it has replayability.

Rating: Summary: A good game at a great price... Review: This is basically another version of Civilization, although with different and interesting technologies and units and improvements. It's very good and lovers of Civilization will love this turn-based game. It takes a long time to play, but it maintains its playability through a couple of games before you start getting bored with it. It only gets four stars however because it is not really a revolutionary game...This is evolution.
Rating: Summary: this game rocks Review: This is by far the most addictive and fun game that I have ever played, and now I can't wait for civilization 3.
Rating: Summary: A Review Review: This is just a great game. I don't know what else to say. For it's quality (...), I'm suprised it isn't one of the most popular PC games ever.
Rating: Summary: In theory great but in actuality just ok Review: This is one of those games that looks great on paper but when you actually sit down and play it, is not all that fun after a while. I've played "Gettysburg", another Firaxis/Brian Reynolds game, and these games are very similiar in that both have a lot of detail, great ideas, a lot of cool things you can do, good multiplayer ... and both are not that fun. The game is basically Civilization 2 at the core but that seems to be it's strong point. Other than that there is not much to recommend. Although there's all sorts of options you can use diplomatically, economically, and militarily, I believe you will find that you will find you are for the most part funnelled into a fairly narrow set of behavior by the way the other nations and the planet act towards you. I'm sure you can beat the game many different ways but that doesn't change the fact that 1) all your allies stab you in the back in the end, 2) the beginning battles are won by the first to impact rovers, 3) the computer has no clue with air warfare, 4) the planet basically kills you immediately if you use nukes. There are all sorts of other little balance issues throughout the game that just get on my nerves as well. The sheer number of options you have are spoiled because the game just isn't put together well. I read an interview with Sid Meier recently and he said when he put together Civ1 he was just trying to make a fun game, making changes by ear. Maybe that's what went wrong here. I must say, I DID have some fun in the multiplayer games I played. Diplomacy and combat are actually quite fun when there is another human on the other end. That said I never finished a game (too long), and there is no online community (that I can find), so your mileage may vary. Bottom line, it's a flawed game, and not tons of fun. But it is Civ2 at the core, so at a low price, it might be worth it for you.

Rating: Summary: Conquor Review: Well im not exactly sure why it takes these other people so long to beat this game. It has alott to do with your character, and the way you set your objectives. I often fight from the begening from start to end large map by myself on normal i can beat this game in under 4 hours with the remaning forces on the earth uniting behind me.
Rating: Summary: I'm addicted. Review: Yes, I freely admit it, I am addicted to Alpha Centauri. Even when my life is busy, I still put in a few rounds of a game. It isn't just the game engine, the great graphics, the easy interface. It is the expression of a possible future that draws you in. Incredibly well thought out scenario(s). I love the game play. With Civ III out I am hoping there will be an Alpha Centauri II.
