Rating: Summary: IT IS UNREAL! Review: This game is awesome! I've played Q3 and it doesn't compare. While Q3's graphics are certainly more intense, (especially the brutal blood splattering) UT focuses more on the level design and all around online gaming fun. I'm finding that my copy of Q3 is gathering dust, while UT has a nice home in my cd-rom drive!
Rating: Summary: My thoughts on UT vs. Q3 Review: The graphics on Q3 seems to be slightly (reads very, very slightly; asymptotically so) superior than UT, but that is where the positive comparisons for Q3 stops. UT's map is a lot more creative (including such settings as a moving train, underwater base, and an old wooden ship), and the variety of options other than deathmatch (capture the flag, assult, etc.) puts Q3 to shame. If you appreciate long lasting playability and can only buy one game in this genre, UT, I submitt, should be your choice.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic first person shooter Review: I don't know what systems people are running this game with. I have a measly 350 PII 96MB ram & a Voodoo 2 card, and I experience no problems, no choppiness, no net lag. All these people with their 600 PIII's need to check their machines out. On the other hand, this game is the most fun addictive 1st person shooter I have ever played. The AI on the 'bots is just terrific. The level designs are great, the weapons are way cool. Get this game at once.
Rating: Summary: Unreal Tournament takes the Trophy Review: Well, I got the DEMO (like a shortened version of a game) of Unreal Tournament. I played it a few times, and it was spectacular. The graphics were very stunning. The next day my friend's brother got Quake III. There were many disadvantages in this game. First, the loading time took forever. Second, the graphics were very "simple" with no realistic feel. The weapons looked too cartoony. My friend's brother went to return the game immediately. ;)
Rating: Summary: Now we're starting to see what is possible on our PC's Review: I'm a professional software test engineer for a gaming company. Needless to say, I play a lot of computer games. In fact, Quake II was my favorite 1st person shooter. Then the first Unreal was released and I was very impressed. I still played Q2 more, but Unreal got my attention. When Q3 was released, I bought both Q3 and UT. I have to say, from a technical point of view, the UT engine is noticely better (smoother, richer, better lighting effects, sharper detail, richer environments, etc.) I would say that the the "blood" effects in Q3 are awesome and so are some of the audio aspects, but UT runs away with the whole enchillada. First of all, UT has richer A.I. for the computer opponents, "Bots." In UT, the Bots are very human like in their behavior (dodging, runing for the best weapons and not just sitting in your sites when they are hurt... they will run away, go get some health and then come back to kick your butt!) Unreal has much more diversity as far as the types of games and number of different maps. Also, UT is much easier for beginners to learn, thanks to helpful, real-time tutorials. You will also love the diversity of weapons, like heat seeking rockets and the Redeemer. You can also acquire a personal transporter! If you have Pentium II or III class system, with a 3D card, you won't be disapointed. Good luck and have fun.
Rating: Summary: Unreal is Unreal Review: This game is truly a great game and a classic. This game gives endless entertainment and great graphics. Although it's very addicting,it never wears out. Offering many fun and awesome worlds and many heavy and huge weapons. This game does not have extreme gore, you can change the settings and it is not that bad in the first place. This is a masterpiece. I love it. I think this is one of the best first-person shooters i've ever played.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs up, but no Cuban cigar. Review: Now, this is what I'm talking about. Finally, a company that can A) Design a solid game, balanced and all and B) Find a balance between good looking and playability for those of us that don't have an Athlon (Yet, hehehehe, hopefully). I believe this what a 3d action game should be. The weapons are more destructive than the weak predecessors of Unreal, while not being the "hand of god," like in Quake 3. There is a good balance of large, small, and medium levels, with fantastic level design and architecture. In my opinion, the Q3 level design is a weak attempt at moody and dark levels (ok, so the fog is neat). The netcode is beyond phenominal, it is amazing how lightning quick it runs with MORE than 8 players in a game. BUT . . I believe that there is nothing terribly new or ingenius about Unreal Tournament. It has done a fine job as a game, no doubt. But the concept of 3d action still stays true, with some refinement. I do believe, that games like Rogue Spear and it's predecessor, Rainbow 6, are pathing the road for a new creed of 3d games. 3d tactical games, this is however an opinion.
Rating: Summary: Bah humbug Review: I got both UT and Q3A for christmas and was more excited to play UT. I booted it up and started playing and about 20 minutes later uninstalled it and put Q3A in. Trust me-Quake 3 Arena is much better, dont waste you money.
Rating: Summary: Everything's so rite... Review: everything's done rite with this game, graphics is eye candy, atmospherical yet runs smoothly on average system; weapons are ALOT of phun and very well banlanced (hand gun can often take out opponent with rocket luncher when used rite); AI's extremly human like, with kewl character models; and u can't really ask for better level design and game types. it's hard to see how anyone can out done this game in the FPS multiplayer genre.
Rating: Summary: Slow Under NT Review: This game looks great! I don't know why, though, but on my 300MHz system with 128MB of RAM running Windows NT, I kid you not - this game takes TEN MINUTES to load, and several minutes to load each level. Eventually after it caches everything you can play pretty smoothly, but I had to turn down the resolution and detail levels to get acceptable performance. I keep thinking something must be wrong with my system, but I can play Half-Life - and the original Unreal - just fine.
