Summary: Hard to believe Quake killer
Review: I have been a loyal, loyal Quake fan for years, but Unreal Tournament has captured my interest now. Quake III was, IMO, just another Quake release, another shoot-em-up. UT, however, is an exciting, almost revolutionary, new twist on the FPG. With great alternate games like Assault and Domination and extra FREE maps released by the folks who created Unreal, this game is a MUST HAVE for anyone who likes first-person games. Great weapons and shooting modes, fun maps, and different game-types make this an endless amount of fun! Please purchase this one!

Also, check out the Tournament stats where every kill, weapon accuracy, and game-statistic you can think of is logged and detailed in a Web Site which you can generate at will!

Review: sigh..lets get some things straight..any game variation that UT so proudly boasts exists as a quake 3 mod..if its worth playing in the first place..UT's graphics are NOT better than quake 3's both admittedly from reviewers(even those who prefer UT) and also because of the fact that they lack geometric curves which is a necessary aspect for newer 3d realism..also, what's up with the pathetic internet code? and why does it require a beta direct x file to handle the geforce card? notice the low polygon count on the models? why do the space graphics look like huge 2 dimensional BMP files? happy UT owners are most likely just bad quake players *happy fragging*

Summary: Very Addictive Game
Review: Unreal tournament is extremely fun and is chock full of great game features and levels. I wouldn't dare buy quake 3 after playing this, don't need to.(Currently Unreal tournament is #9 on the PC game buyers list, Quake 3 is #18) That right there should tell you something.

Review: After having UT for only 1 day, my Quake 3 CD became a beer coaster.

Summary: Great single player, on-line via modem has flaws
Review: Unreal Tournament satisfies gamers who like to frag and not think too much. It's a different goal than Half-Life, but UT beats the pants off Quake 3 Arena, it's competition in this category.

The addition of quality bots to UT makes all of the difference. It's easy to design a bot that can slaughter human players with ruthless digital efficiency, but that's no fun. UT's bots have different play styles and they can automatically change their skill level to match yours. In on-line games, this means that you can play to your heart's content without hanging around waiting for other human players to join the server.

UT looks great, and there are some terriffic map designs, including a speeding train and an oil rig. Again, much better map design than Quake 3.

On-line play is easy to join, but modem players are at a disadvantage on-line. You have to "lead" with your gun to compensate for lag, which makes simply running around an easy way for DSL and cable modem players to avoid being killed. Also, there are some maps that encourage all of the players to congregate in one large room with rocket launchers, which unfairly favours higher bandwidth connections at the expense of modem players.

I love playing UT both in the missions with bots, and on-line. It looks great, and the game is nicely balanced. It loses one star for on-line modem play limitations.

Summary: A decent game, but overrated
Review: One word comes to mind when I think of UT. That is "throwback". The level design is reminiscent of Quake 2. The rocket launcher looks very similar. The female characters with their hair waving look the same as those in Q2. Health and armor do not diminish over time, also as in Q2 (changed for Q3, for a number of reasons). Epic took a formula that worked, and made another game out of it, using an old (but still pretty) game engine. if you want to unwind and have a good time, fire up Unreal Tournament and join a laggy server (I have a T3 connection. With Q3 i get dozens of servers under a ping of 40 ms. With UT, the best i can ever find is 80 something), or create a botmatch. That's really the most fun you'll have with this game. If you want a game that will really last, and one that you can feel yourself improving in, and take a bit more pride out of the first time you win a game, buy Q3.

Summary: Epic Redeemed...
Review: In my option, the multiplayer capabilities of a game havealways been a staple of a good first person shooter, but even moresotoday.

After being disapointed in the the muliplayer capabilities of the origial Unreal (though, I loved the single player and the graphics), I was very impressed by what Epic has created in Unreal Tournament.

With all its playmodes (DM, CTF, Domination and the VERY original Assault) the game tends to put more emphasis on mutiplayer teamplay, however, however, its DM is nothing to be criticized.

If I had to choose between Quake 3 and UT, I would have to say UT was far superior, much more original, and much more fun game.

The online community for UT is blossoming now, with great mods. END
