Summary: A sophisticated, sexy story that stands by itself
Review: If you play this game, play it for the story and the great characters. This time, Gabriel is trying to find a kidnapper and his search leads him to Rennes Le chateau, a historical French village formerly famous for the Templar Knights, and rumored to have hidden treasure that could possibly include the holy grail itself.
This game makes you think and there are a lot of puzzles to solve, even though some of them are sort of absurd and off the wall. (The cat and the hole in the wall). Tim Curry is back and doing the Gabriel voice over with an obnoxious southern accent that is somehow not overly annoying, and rather amusing at times. Gabriel is no where near as nice looking as he was in the second installment, which is a damn shame, but oh well. He is actually rather poorly illustrated at times. At least he hasn't changed much. He does come off cockier in this installment than he was in the previous one, or maybe that is just Tim Curry hamming it up as well. Also, Detective Morley from the first game is back, and this also leads to some hilarious situations. There's something not quite right about watching two akwardly proportioned computer game characters leering over the attractive women staying at the hotel.
On the plus side, Grace is back and you do get to play her in alternating chapters. She is once again the behind the scenes researcher but her work this time around is not as tiresome as it was in "The Beast Within". Less museums this time, and Grace interacts more freely with the suspects. The chemistry between Gabriel and Grace is top notch and realistic and it adds a lot to the story.
I was very disappointed when I heard that Sierra would not be making a fourth one. This is one of the few games that is so well thought out that the gameplay supports a genuinely interesting and exciting story and not the other way around. The dialogue is not filled with just pointless, repetitious conversations as a means of filling the time between when you find that next key to unlock that next hidden door that will take you to key world number 3.

Summary: a great game but a incomplete ending
Review: I loved all the games in the gabriel knight series, each one was suspensful with lots of great gameplay interactions. the only problem i had with blood of the sacred, blood of the damned was the unconcluded ending regarding gabriel and grace. i've been hoping for a 4th game for a closure about their relationship. I've always felt the couple should have been together from the start but this games ending left me most dissapointed. Hopefully there will be another gabriel knight game soon!

Summary: Sierra come back
Review: I grew up with Sierra, and they had the talent for creating enchanting, dangerous worlds and the sense of danger kept me playing, the attitude and the emotion that the character's experienced made me feel like I was there and kept me playing. I've seen a lot of people out there throwing out the title, "the last great adventure game" and I would have to bestow that title on this game. I've played Syberia and The Longest Journey, both of which are I suppose, entertaining, but they lack the raw emotion that sierra games had for me. This game, despite all of it's flaws with the interface, and the laughable three-d versions of Gabriel and Grace, kept up that tradition for me. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to play it because I had to know what was going to happen next. It's a good story, and very well told, however controversial. It is more than just point and click. It boasts strong ideas and strong opinions that stay with you after you are finished.

Summary: makes you want to end it all
Review: This is not a game for a depressed person. You spend hours walking slowly around a deserted brown town with soft, depressing (and not in a good way) music playing in the background. It's a very lonely experience. The few (like, three) characters in the entire *town* that Gabriel explores are gray in color and seem dead because they never move out of their chairs. They also disappear when viewed from certain camera angles, which is a little disconcerting. I'm never going to play this again. It makes me feel creepy. (Not scared--creepy.)

Summary: Not for the klutzy
Review: I gave up in chapter one. I was completely unable to do anything except eventually get Gabriel out of doors where I promply got turned around and lost. I never made it any further due to sheer frustration.

I loved the first 2 games. The first was cartoony but really interesting and logical. The second had a really swoony Gabriel,a great plot, beautiful scenery and camera work. The only problem there was the werewolf scene near the end. The game froze up every time I used the talisman and I could not finish.

Never the less, I looked forward to the 3rd part. I am not coordianated enough to be anything but dizzy in this format. However, I suspect that for those who can use the 3d format that they will love the game. Just not for us oldfashioned non-tech people.

Summary: Poor entry in the GK series
Review: I loved the first two Gabriel Knight games ("Sins of the Father" and "The Beast Within"). They were creepy, well-researched, and had great atmosphere.

Well, "Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned" had great potential -- Rennes-le-Chateau and vampires! Neat! But poor gameplay really squandered that potential.

To give you an example of what I mean, one of the puzzles involves getting a vehicle so Gabriel can get from one place to another. A perfectly good motor scooter (I think; it's been a while) is available. But noooooo ... Gabriel refuses to ride something so wussy. He has to have a big motorcycle. So that's the puzzle -- getting the selfish jerk a motorcycle to ride.

Let me get this straight. He's a detective trying to solve a case, but he's going to waste time finding a cooler ride?

That was the point where I threw the game out the window, so I can't comment on how it ends, unfortunately. The voice acting was pretty lame; I don't know who told Tim Curry he could do a New Orleans accent, but he can't.

Now that [the price has dropped], it's worth trying if you're really into Gabriel Knight. Otherwise, there are much better adventure games out there that are also dirt cheap. Try one of them.

Summary: A highly entertaining adventure game experience.
Review: In a world that makes it hard to find a pure adventure game, [not an adventure/action combo game where I dread the boring action part and can't wait until it is over, plus what is the point, the big group of action people don't want adventure and many adventurists don't want action-they try to please all, and up pleasing one or two] let alone a fun one, this was a blast. The second in the series was the best.

Summary: Low Tech - Bad Value
Review: I have always loved the Sierra Games, and have played most adventure games out there. Time has passed this game by. The interface is bad, parts of the character's bodies fade in and out as you move around. I have a very fast machine and the game sputters along at incredibly slow speeds. Compared to The Longest Journey and Syberia which both have fantastic graphics and very good interfaces (and even Grim Fandango - a great game with a very awkward interface), I would advise skipping GKIII. You will just be frustrated, I quit about 1/2 way through.

Summary: Spit on the Sacred, Hail to the Damned.
Review: As a longtime fan of the Gabriel Knight series, I was so looking forward to playing this game. In spite of the troubles I'd heard plagued the new 3d world, I was rarin' to go on a new adventure with Gabe and Grace. Imagine my disappointment, then, when I found almost no storytelling at all. The puzzles were nothing to write home about, either. And Tim Curry was sadly miscast as Gabe. Still, I was gonna tough it out, just to see what happened. Was I in for a shock! I spend all this time wading through a sea of mediocrity, only to have this game tell me that my God is dead, and my faith is a lie! Not wanting to take the chance that some other poor fool might possibly play my copy after I threw it away, I actually broke the CDs first. This game was one of the greatest letdowns I've experienced in 10 years of PC gaming.
