Rating: Summary: buy it.. Review: This is the best game of the year. Almost all my expectations have been met (except for the fact of talking to people via the microphone option). But, the graphis are great (if you don't have a fast computer you probably can't hang...) and the movemnt, and additional options are awesome...
Rating: Summary: Pay attention to requirements and keep up on driver updates. Review: Having read all the previous reviews I was very apprehensive about purchasing the game. I have a PII 350 with 256M of Ram, GeForce Video Card, and a 56K modem. I was very concerned that my system was up to the task. On initial install the updates were run on the system. After the updates are run, make sure you read and do the following: search your entire hard drive for any files containing a file extension of .dso and delete them. They are compiled using the original code and do not take into account the new updates. Once deleted, you will run the game and it will compile using the updates. This is very important. I run the game and the OpenGL version kept giving me memory errors and I had to use the DirectX play only. I was very disappointed. Playing online, I had to reduce the graphics detail so much I was playing against nothing but gray blobs. Very disappointed. I then noticed there is a file on the CD called something like glsetup.exe. This file is a program that does auto updates of your OpenGL drivers. You can get the file from ... DO THIS IF YOU WANT THE GAME TO NOT ... After the updates, the game played better than I had hoped. I can run the game on the best graphics with the most detail (using OpenGL where before it would crash) over a 56K modem. I get some slight lag but nothing like I did on the previous attempts. You can make this game work if you pay attention to the recommendations and UPDATE YOUR OPENGL DRIVERS!
Rating: Summary: Great game, but casual gamers beware! Review: First let me say this; Tribes 2 is not for casual gamers. This game has some crazy requirements just to make it playable. Even more than the graphicly intensive Quake 3! I completely overhauled my system just for this game & it still doesn't run that great. I have a P3 800/256mb pc133 ram/overclocked GeForce 256 DDR/lots of heatsinks & cooling/hours of tweaking, & I still get like 20 frames per second on the more intense maps. So if you have anything less I recommend you stick to the first Tribes until you have something better. 3DFX based cards run horribly on this game, don't even try to run this game with one! I tried & it just beat the crap out of it! This is not just a game, it's more like an online community of gamers you come to know & recognize. All the additions to Tribes 2 further support this community with e-mail, chat, forums, news, all built into the game interface. So if you have an awesome set up with a GeForce video card & want to participate in this community by all means purchase Tribes 2; (run the training missions), & jump on board! I would have given this game 5 stars, but can't due to the fact that it won't run great on most systems unless you spend more money upgrading.
Rating: Summary: Waited for Nothing Review: I sooooo anticipated the release of this game so I could replace Team Fortress Classic and my Unreal Tournament with a much more imporved game. This game is the worst and I don't have a slow machine, I am running a P4 1.4 GHZ - GeForce 2 Ultra 64 MB of DDR ram with 256 MB of RAM, the game runs great its just lifeless. Steep learning curve that is not worth the time. I love the combination RTS aspects of a FPS online team base shooter. It just doesn't pay off and it is not worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Not for Voodoo card owners. This is BETA software. Review: Sierra is well known for getting its customers to Beta test their software AFTER they buy it. Remember Tribes (1) and all the patches and upgrades and bug fixes? Tribes2 is no different and if anything, it's much worse. When you first insert the cd you have to endure megabytes of upgrade (repair) patches before you can even start the game. The game play concept is fatally flawed. The idea is that up to 300 (150 per team) people can play and therefore teamwork is absolutely essential. People don't work that way. Imagine trying to get even 50 on your team to cooperate! Ages running from say, 11 to 55. It won't happen. EVER! Gameplay itself is identical to the first Tribes. No difference at all. What IS different are: new maps; better graphics (if you have the high-end hardware); different weapons; changed and more time-consuming invo procedure. The bases are so far apart that play is boring for grab-the-flag. It takes FOREVER to get the game loaded and playing even when it works. The vehicles I tried, like the grav-sled, skitter all over and are nearly impossible to use. Overall, this game is not worth the price unless you have at least a 17" monitor with a minimum 100 fps refresh rate, a 1.2 ghz cpu, mucho RAM and a hot Geforce2 card. I have a 500 mhz AMD, older 15", VooDoo3 3000. After MANY HOURS of dealing with downloads, messing with .cs files and changing drivers, I did finally get the game to run fairly well. However, more than 12 players in the game caused me to lag. It wasn't worth all that effort, and definitely wasn't worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Best new game yet only one problem Review: Unsurpassed graphics, Seemless online play, just one problem humans need sleep or else I would play all day, well not all day just when im not in class. Runnig this on a p3 800 coppermine and 64 meg Geforce 2 pro is not a problem.
Rating: Summary: Great Game! - If you have the hardware! Review: First of all I know many people have had problems running this game from looking at the Tribes2 forum. This must be dissapointing but I do not think that anyone should write reviews just to say "I could not get it to work on my machine and therefor this game is not good". If you havenever played the game then don't review it. Personally, I had no problems installing the game, authenticating on the Sierra sever or playing the game. I do know that this game is even more demanding on your hardware then QIII, so if you are considering buying the game you may want to make sure you have the hardware to play it. My rig is a Athlon 900 Mhz, 256M RAM, SB Live!, and a Radeon 32Meg DDR card and I think if I had anything less I might not enjoy playing that much. Before you buy just check the Tribes2 web site forum for discussions of hardware problems. Hardware consideratons put aside, the gameplay is fantastic. This game has the most realistic combat of any FPS out there. There are times when you literally feel like you are in a scene from "Saving Private Ryan". All the sounds of the weapons are believable and the explosions are very realistic. The gameplay itself does not deviate from the original Tribes that much but the playing fields seem large and as such there seems to be a greater emphasis on vehicles. The pace also seems a little slower than the original but this could be due to the larger playing fields again. The network code is as good as the original, if not better and I have noticed that the number of players in a game averages about 30. In all, if you liked the original Tribes then you will not be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: This game blows! Review: OVERRATED!! Hey, these are some sweet graphics...for 1995 standards!! This game is a hyped up mess. Bad graphics, no matter what speed you machine, laughable voice overs, lame weapons, and the list goes on. Look, if you want a real net shooter, go with the best...Unreal tournament, out for a year now and still on top.
Rating: Summary: Sweet crispy Lord in Heaven Review: Keep in mind I've just bought the game a mere 48 hours ago. Haven't slept yet, and the lack of food and standing in general are starting to take their toll. I'm starting to get more stubbly than I like, and my friends stopped coming over. Also I think my fish is dead. This is a pretty good game.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Game but, Review: There are some problem with this game 1.) Game sucks on voodoo cards 2.) Internet play is slow But other than that this game is a must buy and patchs are coming out for the interenet play.
