Summary: Definitely Majestic
Review: A great game that is easy and fun to play. Kids will really enjoy the Adventure, but it is also likely to be entertaining for adult beginners and novices. Beautiful graphics.

Summary: Poor compat, worse support
Review: Bought this for my son at Costco. Tried installing it on 3 different PCs, each of which exceeded the minimum recommended settings by far.
In all three, the program installed without a hitch and would not run.
I then tried contacting tech support and relaying the detailed diagnostic log information. They were less than helpful and suggested "fixes" that broke compatability with other programs - and still did not work. I will be returning this software this week and purchasing Fritz and Chesster.

Summary: unacceptable technical support
Review: Even though my new computer exceeded the minimum requirements the program would not install and after three days when i finally got it installed it would not run. during this process the technical support folks took the following positions:

1. had me uncheck some box in windows. When this did not solve the problem they hung up. All support calls are long distance.

2.I did not have the latest firmware from the mfr of the cd rom .
However the program installed on my three year old laptop.

3. Would not return calls.

4. emailed me saying that my video card was not a current version.
not true.
5. The mfr of my new computer said they have major problems with Siera products such as majestic chess .
6, program never ran,

Review: First of all this is a nice game I think great idea, cool music and spooky graphics thats why i bought it just cause it looks nice and the adventure of course.
If you need a program for analysis and study this is not for you then Chessmaster or Fritz is a much better choice- in fact this program doesnt even have a database its just for the fun.
So its a good game i think and i would give it 4 or 5 stars BUT.....when i wanted to join the message board because I dont know how to solve one of thous puzzles in the game they (Sierra) wouldnt let me because i have a free email account (a hotmail account)....then i tried to send an email to customer support but they wouldnt let me because i am not registered and of course they would not let me register. then i found an email on that site for help i think someone from Hoyle or whoever is the creator of that game and so i send an email that asked why they wouldnt let me join then i get an email informing me that my email has been delayed and next day i get another email that my email has not arrieved at all..........frustrating if i think about it and now i cant continue the adventure unless i solve that puzzle it askes how the game was 2 moves ago and i have come up with many many different and legal solutions so the puzzle is invalied and stupid (there are 1000s of solutions and it will only accept one of them)i am a class A player at least 1800 if not more.

Seems there is no customer support at all.

Summary: Decent, but frustrating...
Review: I consider myself an intermediate chess player. I'm no Bobby Fischer but I am probably far from a beginner.

Now that I got that message through, I will honestly tell you that this game isnt much fun. The levels of difficulty are terrible. A monkey can beat the beginning levels. But then it slightly jumps and all of a sudden it becomes a challenge. You get past it with a little hair pulling and you move on to the last level. Argh. It's pretty hard. I'm no dummy but some of the puzzles at the end are seemingly unbeatable. A few I have gotten stuck on for days at a time; and others I still haven't gotten past.

This adventure mode isnt really the best layout in the history of chess games.

Honestly, the first few levels are excellent for beginners, but a true beginner wont be finishing this game any time soon.

Overall, I am satisfied with the game.

The multiplayer is a nice boost when it works, or when theres an actual human being on it at the same time as you.

So it comes to this. If you are an intermediate chess player, this probably will provide you with a nice little migrane. A beginner will get a nice tour of the game but then get stuck, and an expert will just blow through it.

So classify youself as one of those three types and figure out if this game is really worth your money. If I could change my purchase, I would have invested into getting, say, one of the more recent chessmaster games.

Summary: Won't Run
Review: I installed Majestic Chess on two computers--one running Windows 2000, the other running Windows 98SE (FAT32), and Windows 2000 (NTFS). The hardware on both machines is up to speed. The installs (including two on the dual-booter) went smoothly, however, the chess games won't run at all. But the Hoyle demo games will.
