Summary: Strictly middle of the road gameplay, but beautiful!
Review: This ain't no Disney Alice.

Take good long look at the cover of Alice's box. Get the idea? Something has gone horribly wrong in Wonderland. Alice, who has spent the last several years in an asylum for telling people the truth (about Wonderland), now must return and again set things right.

Simple enough plot, right? It is. VERY simple.

All three of stars I gave this game were for its visuals. Everything from the backgrounds, the baddies, and the buildings to Alice herself are rendered beautifully! Movement is very fluid and realistic.

I was also suprised at the ease of the keyboard/mouse interface. It didn't take long to get the hang of moving Alice around in the twisted Wonderland.

But these two pluses don't make up for the game itself. This one is a simple "run, jump, shoot" game like all too many others. The game leads you by the nose as you stumble through the plot. Not too many surpises here. For those of you who've played them before, this is one of those: I need X, so I see person 1 who will give me X if I get him Z. So I see person 2 who will give me Z if I give him Y. So I find person 3 who... you get the picture.

The puzzles are easy enough, and there's a lot of jumping involved in this game. But once you get down how to jump, sidestep, and shoot... it's all too easy.

OH! I would be remiss if I didn't note: If your PC (no Mac support from EA, kiddies!) isn't TOP OF THE LINE (Pentium 3, 128MB RAM, geForce 256 video card, Creative x-gamer LIVE sound - or better on all) the game will bog down, graphics won't render, or it won't run at all. Don't even think about running this game on a laptop.

While I liked the game and love the graphics, I was still disappointed. If you want to be scared by a video game, play Resident Evil. If you want great action, play DeusEx.

Summary: not worth buying
Review: After finishing this game, I immediately deleted it from my harddrive. There is absolutely no point in playing it again. The game offers nothing in terms of replay value. It is a strictly linear and formulaic game.

Early on in the game I realized that I was doing the same things over and over again. Killing enemies very easily using the same weapon. Although the game gives several weapons, there really is no need to use anything other than the card throw except for the last stages of the game.

The graphics were nice, but there wasn't much that blew me away with its sheer intensity.

The worst part of the game is the dialouge. It doesn't get worse than the annoying cheshaire cat. He tries to sound intelligent and morbid at the same time, but instead comes off as stupid and pompous.

The story was also very flawed. It seems like they put all their effort into the graphics and very little (if any) attention into the storyline.

Do not buy this game. Do not encourage video game developers to continue making these kind of games.

Summary: Good game overall, but....
Review: Overall I really enjoyed the game. The 2 downsides I saw were as follows: Not much replay value Not long enough

On the upside, it was a very well done game, and it's nice to see a different type of Alice (namely the pyscokiller type Alice). Most gamers overall should like this game, but it does get dull at some points, and really frustrating at others.

Summary: Another great game!
Review: I hate this king of game ,run jump and shoot no need to think just rush. But this game is like no other game,i remembered alice from my childhood and i was surprise by these interpretation. The characters degenerated and the king became more bad the rabbit more in a hurry(if it was possible),the programmers emphasis on the character's traits and it's realy a great job.The game is realy too easy , after4 hours i wasn't sure that we could even die but i think that the main points of this game are the environement and the musics. The background is realy asthonish sometimes i just stopped in rooms to look around to have a full vision of this visual masterpiece.I knew wonderworld was strange but this is the stranger's world i've ever seen ,i'm sure the programers are crazy. Unfortunately there is few things missing, k alice can find some nice items but sometimes i'd like to open some doors to buy new stuffs it's frustrating to see "shop" and won't be abaile to enter it. I'm realy impress thanks to the new games i hate doom-likes and undying was the exception it realy scared me and it's not like resident evil it's from the beggining to the end. There is a new generation of games which is coming with use astonish graphics.I would recomand Alice to people who love to be surprise by the graphics and by a atipish world, it's not scary and the games kept a childhood spirit with alice always willing to learn(not for kids)It's just that michel angelo could have paint the background and Dali ad them to this game.

Summary: AWSOME
Review: This game is one of the coolest games ever, the graphics are so amazing that not even i can believe how long it must have took to create them. i dont know what people are thinking when they say this game is boring, i think it is one of the coolest games of all time, the only problem with it is the 1 player game is rather short, but in my opinion u can play it over and over again, without getting bored.

Summary: Gaming Evolution
Review: The sooner more people realise this, the better. Computer gaming is not just entertainment, it's an art form every bit as powerful as films and books. And that is exactly what makes this game so important.

Viewed as a work of art, Alice is sublime in every respect - the graphics are highly detailed and display perhaps the best and most imaginitive artwork ever seen in a computer game (Grim Fandango is its only contender). The soundtrack (by Chris Vrenna, of Nine Inch Nails fame) is excellent, the voice acting brilliant, particularly by game standards. Everything about this game - including the menu screens - reeks quality and imagination. Detail has been lavished on the tiniest of tiny objects - witness the glow-fly crosshair, for example. There is no way this game cannot be classified as an excellent work of art.

Pity the actual gameplay isn't that great. It's not awful - it's pretty good, in fact - but it's not brilliant. Overall, as a game, four stars. As a work of art, 5 stars.

Summary: Very intriguing storyline and advanced graphics, but...
Review: slightly monotonous in gameplay. I loved this game, but it was kind of boring just to kill all of the enemies. What happened to her blonde hair? It turned red and then brown, guess it's from all of the dirt she didn't wash off during her stay at the asylum. Very interesting storyline, as I have mentioned previously. You'll find the characters very likable or very unpleasant, no inbetweens I guess. There is a bit of strategy to the game when it comes to defeating the Duchess, Caterpillar, Jabberwock, and so on. It takes a bit of patientience sometimes, but the graphics make it very worthwhile. It's not a very difficult game to play. It does require some thinking in some levels to get onto the next part, but I'm sure you'll manage. Forty dollars isn't bad for the price of this game, because as I said the graphics make it worthwhile. The gore is not that bad, but it can sometimes be, well, a bit, how should I say-- grotesque? if that's the right word. Whacking at the cards will be great fun and very satisfying if you might be anything like me... Don't be disappointed when you can't beat the monsters like the Jabberwock and leave the game to rot. Patience and perserverance is the key. Well, I suppose I've wasted too much of your time now. Do go buy this game and make me happy.

Summary: Atmosphere
Review: I admit it, I'm a sucker for atmosphere. Any game that can pull me in so well that it affects my mood, fully engrossing me in the game, is a winner in my book, and Alice does exactly that. Every detail of the game comes together perfectly to create a dark, insane world that seemed very real, making me care about the characters and want to keep exploring a little further.

The game does have a few shortcomings. The linear gameplay and lack of multiplayer support leaves it with very low replay value. I finished it in about 2 weeks and have not played it since. Also, the gameplay itself isn't much different from many other games on the market. Overall, though, if you're tired of the slew of unoriginal games being released these days, Alice will be a refreshing break for you.

Summary: A Problematic Game to Consider
Review: McGee's Alice is a unique recasting of the Alice in Wonderland mythos into a game context. I'm sure the reader is already aware that this Alice, and this Wonderland, is horribly twisted by Alice's inability to deal with the tragic deaths of her parents. Alice follows the white rabbit once again and finds herself faced which the terrible task of cleansing and healing the world of Wonderland.

The task is made harder because, in order to heal Wonderland, she must heal herself. To do that she must conquer fear, guilt and anger. In Wonderland's terms she must slay the Red Queen, who is really the reflection of Alice's own pain.

The game interface is smooth and transparent. The disturbing artwork is truly superb. All the characters have lost their innocence and appear as distorted caricatures of their originals. The world itself is incredibly fantastic, rich in imagination and detail. The game may be worth its cost simply as eye candy.

To me, the game's really serious flaw is that it's story and action is on a very adult level, but the level of challenge it offers is low. Now, I am not a regular hack and slash player, so the ease and linearity of Alice's challenges were really welcome and allowed me to enjoy the visual and narrative parts of the game. But experts used to Deus Ex and Quake Tournament will find the game too simple. Levels are completely linear, and the weapon set is limited in features and utility. The only challenge is keeping a big enough supply of 'will' (the game's equivalent of ammo) to keep shooting. Despite the violence and traumatic plot, the game would work best for a 7 to 9 year old. Actually the violence the game offers is really only moderately graphic. I'm not sure that the mature player warning is completely justified.

Still, most collectors will want to own this game. And most players will find it enjoyable. The storyline itself is very touching, with a strong, positive ending. As American McGee's first solo effort it promises much for his continued career. I'd recommend buying it even with its flaws.

Summary: Very Intense Graphics, but boring
Review: Alice is very gritty and bloody. It's NOT the Alice in Wonderland you might think. Alice is in a sanitorium. Her parents were killed in a fire and she's gone mad. In her mind she's stuck in the altered and sometimes horrific former "wonderland". The doctors try to revive her using new, untested "potions". Some show progress but most make her condition worse. This information is all in a "journal" that comes with the game written by the doctor treating her. So once you read that you load the game... and WOW what graphics! Even the blinking of Alice's eyes frightened me. I played the first board...kind of "Earthworm Jim" style with level after level. It seemed fun at first running around with the Quicken movement and 360 degree line of sight...but soon the slashing and killing become boring. You pretty much just run and slash. The idea is that if Alice destroys the altered "wonderland" she will awaken and be sane again. If you get hurt too many times playing she dies and you have to start over. Sound too basic..yeah that's what I thought. Sorry all you fans..I did give it an honest try but I exchanged it for a better game.."The Longest Journey"...see my review on that.
