Summary: An engrossing experience
Review: When I first got this game, I immediately became obsessed with it. I spent hours each day trying to come up with solutions to all the puzzles. It was all worth it, though.

The basic story is fairly unique. You are dropped onto an island without a clue as to what is going on. Exploring the island, you find two men trapped inside books. They are brothers, and each claims that he is innocent and the other is guilty of killing their father and burning his books. Obviously someone is lying, and you have to figure out who by traveling to different ages through other hidden books and putting together the clues you find there. By the end, you must come to a decision about who is innocent and should be set free. However, before you can do that something happens that makes you rethink the entire scenario. I've probably said too much already, and I won't say anything more about the plot.

Myst's graphics were amazing when it first came out, but now look rather simple and cartoonish compared to Riven and Exile. This is why the game misses out on the full five stars.

Also notable is that Myst is the only game of the series that never ends. Once you have completed your mission and freed the right person, you are free to keep exploring as long as you want. Although it might be nice to see some more ages, there is simply not enough space on one disk, and the five ages that are available are very scenic and enjoyable. If you want a unique game that may even give you a new perspective on your own life, you could do a lot worse than Myst.

Review: ...that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned. It continued falling into that starry expanse, of which I had only a fleeting glimpse. I have tried to speculate where it might have landed, but I must admit such conjecture is futile. Still, questions about whose hands might one day hold my Myst book are unsettling to me. I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

Intruiged? Then do yourself a favor and pick up this game in one of it's many incarnations: Myst, Myst: Masterpiece Edition, or realMYST. You'll be treated to haunting music, an engaging story, and beautiful visuals.

Summary: Wakes you up
Review: When my husband and I first played this game a few years ago, it was the most engrossing and delightful experience we'd ever had with a computer game. It was wonderful to play together, keep a journal, think and talk about it with each other as we went through the days puzzling it out.

The added bonus that I found with Myst, was that it woke me up to my environment. Playing this vivid, three dimensional (on all levels) game that demanded one listen to every sound, look in every corner, behind every door, etc. increased my sense awareness. Suddenly I was paying greater attention to and appreciating the amazingly vivid three dimensional world I live in every day. I think the Myst games are good for your spirit and your soul, which I can't say about any other computer game I've played.

Summary: Surely worth a go
Review: An easy game to crack on -- but it's the game that got me into computer gaming, me and, I suspect, many other people. The basic idea -- you arrive in isolation, with no information, and have to figure out EVERYTHING from square one -- is appealing. The graphics were great for the time and still look good. The music is pretty cool. The acting ain't bad.

Faults are the story -- the more you figure out the less interesting it is, the horrible ending, and some contrived puzzles. Some people find this game very difficult -- I remember I got stuck only once, and it was a matter of not looking carefully where I was going. In other words, it's far less difficult than it's reputation.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but a classic, really, and worth a look.

Review: The ending was the most dissappointing part of the game, no response from the character when it was completed. I finished with the correct response too. The whole game was calming and the music was nice. I just hope Riven and Myst III turn out better.

Review: Robyn and Rand Miller have created a masterpiece! Considering this game was made in 1993 the graphics are incredible. The puzzles may be impossible but still amazing. What's even more amazing is how the game was made. If you watch The Making of Myst on the CD you'll see the ingenous ways Robyn and Rand used to make Myst.

Summary: The Absolute Best
Review: Myst is amazing for today's standards and even more so for when it was made. The graphics are stunning and the game play is simple. I personally had to look on the internet for some hints but that's just me. I believe that this game should be worth forty bucks at least, but the mere twenty is astounding. The entire game's originallity is astounding as well. The plot is very clever and the personalitys of the two brothers is complicated. Each of the entirely different islands offers challenging puzzles to be solved and many places to be explored.

Review: I like the game, but have problems with the cd rom, it just heats up and I haven't been able to continue playing,,,please help....I need to know what is happening and why i can't play for more than five minutes.

Summary: Phenomenal Game - more a brain puzzle than anything
Review: This gane is trully a non-linear experience, and I oten found mysef spinning in circles. When I played, I found myself up altogether too late, calling friends around the country who started at the same time just to share the excitement. Certainly a good game for anyone, but especially for those who don't get too excited for the blast this, jump over that, kill that one games that dominate the market, athough that croud too would likely enjoy this, even if only for the astounding quality of the game, graphics and puzzles.

Review: This great game is very awesome, but I wouldn't reccomend it to kids younger than 10, as it is very complicated and very hard to win. I have played this game millions of times and never won!!! But if you are the kind of person who loves challenges and who plays only for the fun, not caring if you ever win, this game is definitly for you!!! so crank up your brain and GO FOR IT!!!!
