Summary: One of the Best HOMM Expansions of all Time!
Review: Although it would have been an added bonus to include a new town, units, or heroes; the Shadow of Death provides seven superior campaigns that allow one to adjust the difficult on a scenario-for-scenario basis and an additional 38 stand-alone scenarios to challenge the most enthusiastic strategy gamer. The combination artifacts and terrain tiles add a tremendous amount of variation to the to the original. In fact, the original HOMM 3 is included, as is a $10 rebate for purchasers of the original product. 3DO quickly resolved the SOD-AB compatibility problem and with the two together, the fantasy strategy gamer has the best game ever produced for this segment of computer gaming industry. The modifications to the campaign and scenario editors will enable one to create or soon download a vast array of scenarios and campaigns. Don't be dissuaded from buying this spectacular gaming experience!

Summary: I highly recommend Shadow of Death
Review: Falsadoom, The Shadow of Death DOES work with Armagedon'sBlade. Run a defrag program or format your drive, because this is agreat add on and the $10 rebate accounts for the high price tage with repect to previous owners of Heroes 3. This is one of the most fantastic fantasy/stratagy games ever produced and it is a shame that one might post such an impulse review without first considering other possible causes for their concerns.

Summary: Outstanding Strategy and Extremely Replayable
Review: HOMM 3 is an addictive turn-based strategy game for die-hard fantasy addicts and non-addicts alike. The Shadow of Death game is a no-brainer pickup if you haven't yet picked up HOMM 3: Restoration of Erathia. HOMM: Shadows of Death includes the original HOMM3 and enough extras to make it all worthwhile. You will still need to get Armagedon's Blade to take advantage of the extra characters, town and maps in that expansion.

For the non-HOMM folks, the game starts as a resource gathering game, playable in both single and multiplayer modes. In order to afford troops and upgrades, you need certain resources, such as ore, wood, money. etc. Your troops are led by heroes, each of which begin with certain powers and skills. As the heroes increase in level, you choose which skills to highlight, improve, or learn. The graphics won't blow you away although the images are clear and pretty. (sprites are smaller that HOMM2, for example).

In multiplayer games (where this game truly shines), you choose the type of town you want as the basis for your kingdom. Each town has its own unique creatures and heroes. Although there are some balance issues (i.e. some towns don't allow the recruitment of particularly strong long-distance creatures, like archers), these problems are minor and require you to come up with different attack and/or defense strategy.

Overall, an outstanding and totally addictive game.

Review: I just got the game and haven't been able to stop playing. There are tons of great new senarios and new terrains to add to your gaming experience. This is a must have for HOMM fans and a great addition to your collection for those of you who have never played the any of the previous additions. The addition of the ten dollar rebate makes the overall price a great value.

Summary: Why HOMM3:SOD get's 1 star
Review: I love Hereos of Might and Magic 3 with the Armageddon's Blade add-on. I find it to be a fantastic turn based strategy game with role playing game elements. The whole game has a certain "hobby board game" feel to it as well. This product above is nothing more than the old HOMM3 with a few new terrain sets, 12 artifacts, and a handful of scripted scenarios for the price of $40. This is bad for existing fans of HOMM3. Secondly, NO new monsters, heroes, or buildings are added. Thrirdly, to date, NONE of the new terrains or artifacts work with the randomized map generation (with no plans to implement this according to NWC CSR). Lastly, the game will not work at all if you install HOMM3:SOD with Armageddon's Blade, despite the press releases and what is stated clearly on the game box.
