Summary: Still Beta
Review: The game won't run for more than 30 minutes with three of the four modern PCs I've installed it on. The game was released long before it was ready for public consumption.

Summary: From the Vaults of War Mongers Anonymous.
Review: Empire Earth is one of those long sought after war games with a real AI to challenge the best strategic and tactical thinkers. It's truly good old Chess on Steroids, with the attitude to boot. Us war mongers have been looking for such a game to come out for a very long time.
When playing against the computer A.I., one small mistake can utterly cost you the game. Unlike most RTS games whose A.I.'s are strictly programmed with Attrition warfare, lower unit costs, resource hoarding, and over all reliance on other cheating type subroutines. Empire Earth seems to have a masterfully crafted and programmed A.I. that uses true to life warfare strategies and tactics. If one particular strategy don't work for it. It will improvise another, until it finds one that will work to its best advantage. This is what makes it a real joy to play, and keeps it challenging for the advanced RTS War Gamer.
The A.I. of this game is so well done, I wouldn't recommend it for the first time War Gamer. Even on the easiest settings. That is, unless one likes to lose badly, has a serious masochistic streak in them, and is a glutton for punishment. It takes forethought, planning, good strategic/tactical judgment, and most of all...The A.I. doesn't have to Cheat to beat your butt. It gives you an enjoyable challenge to defeat it. It is not easily won, and you will find final victory come at a cost. The trick, make sure that cost is wisely dealt out. Remember, picking 1 simple little upgrade unwisely will cost you the game.
Now, the real joy of playing Empire Earth. Is having the ability to play other opponents Via LAN, and the ability to save the game at any given time during the multi-play. Nothing quite like one human going against other humans for a real impressive gaming experience. I have had a game last for long as a month between 3 opponents so far. I Can't wait till we get all 8 machines up, with one huge game going....NOW that Is WARFARE!!!
Playing over the Internet has not been much fun. The combination of the games complexity and the amount of net congestion these days. Deeply detracts from the enjoyment and fluidity of the gaming experience.
Empire Earth's Multi-player compatibility, It's extraordinary A.I., mix of essential features. It's vast number of units (1200 per player), well done graphics, and over all playability. Makes for a great gaming experience. Every time you play it against other human opponents...It is a whole new game. That is what's going to make it a timeless classic in my "World Domination" Book.............8 thumbs up (one for each machine on our little LAN)!!!!!

Summary: Must Buy For Some
Review: I've read pretty much all the reviews here and must adamently disagree with those who gave this less that 4 stars. I can understand those who have had problems running the game being disappointed, I would be too. And there is a legitamate point to be made that those who played AOE to death will not be astounded by this game. However, for those who love RTS games, and expansions of already great games, then EE is definitely what you are looking for. I have spent hours on this game and have never even seen the epochs after the Napoleonic Era. Heck, I haven't even mastered the whole priest concept as a part of my strategy (I also haven't won a lot either). The point is, I think the complexity of the game is exactly what is so great. I also like that resources are not so quick to disappear, and that it is almost impossible to mine out all the gold, stone and iron on the board. Listen, I love C&C and especially Red Alert 2, but those are the hyperactive children of the RTS world. There is no quick plunking down of your base and creation of massive armies within the first ten minutes. There is something to be said for that type of game too. If you like a little more complexity, get this game and enjoy for years to come.

Summary: Great Game, but with Bugs
Review: If you are a fan of Ages of Empires, you will love this game. It is the same concept but much more advanced. Graphics are not as good and sometimes it is hard to tell what unit is what, but the selection of what you can do and units you can use is tremendous. I especially like the ability to play all the way through so many epochs. I played one game that started in the dark age and I couldn't beat the computer until we had advanced all the way to the nano age. That meant one game lasted forever - just kept saving it and coming back on another day.

Now the negative: it is buggy! I was used to playing AOE without incident, but this game occasionally locks. It has an autosave feature, but I would rather not have a lock problem than an autosave. Also, sometimes the window starts scrolling for no reason. This is a problem when you are in the heat of a battle and you lose control of what you are looking at. Perhaps they will succeed in taming these bugs with future patches.

All said, I'm glad I bought it and love to play it. I paid $49 when it first came out. To get it at under $20 for the current Amazon price is a steal.

Summary: Great idea.
Review: This game is a great concept and plays fairly well. My main objection is that when advancing to new epochs the units look different but play essentially the same way. Still good fun though. Beware the minimum requirements! I have a 450 Mhz PIII and the game is VERY sluggish even on the lowest graphical and audio settings.

Summary: Bugs
Review: This game is not compatible with Windows XP. I tried playing it on an H/P Pavilion that's less than 6 weeks old loaded with Windows XP. The game installs ok, then when you hit the play option, immediately crashes and generates an error report. I've e-mailed Sierra twice but no response. If anyone knows of a fix, let me know as I really want to give this another shot. Yes, I did download the latest Windows updates and no, they had no effect. If you have XP, save your money on this game til they get the problem fixed, assuming they do! I've had a lot of success and enjoyment with Sierra products but this is a major let down

Summary: History Buffs Beware
Review: OK, I did a lot of research on EE before it came out, and couldn't decide if I'd like it or not. AOK, with The Conquerors, is my favorite game of all time. I thought it was getting a little dated though, and thought EE would replace it as my all time favorite. I was wrong.

First, the 3D engine is very cool and the animation incredibly smooth. But despite this, the 3D graphics just didn't appeal to me as much as the 2D sprites of other games have. 3D may be the newest thing, but why use it if it doesn't look as good or as detailed as an already existing system? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Second, the game is truly epic in scope, but that may be it's biggest weakness. It is true that the epochs are "fleshed-out" and can feel like individual games, but there are elements of detail that AOK and even Cossacks had that are just missing here, like different languages and unique civ units. I found myself missing things like that. I even missed being able to choose my team color. However, it is a truly huge game.

Third, you can play upwards of 20 different civs, but some are much more appropriate than others for specific ages (Babylonians with aircraft carriers or Greeks with mechs just isn't my cup o'tea). Again, I guess this is just a matter of taste.

What I learned from this game is that I prefer RTS games set within specific time-periods that can really encompass the historical feel of the era I'm into at the moment. I enjoy being immersed. EE just can't do that because of it's epic scope. But for gamers who couldn't care less about the history, this game should be a hoot. It's gameplay, graphics and AI are all top notch.

Personally, though, I was disappointed, and am awaiting the release of the Cossacks add on.

Summary: cool
Review: This game good. it is better than age of empires it spands thougrh 500,000 years!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Fun, within limits
Review: This game is similar to Sudden Strike in that it is a disorganized melee. Strategy is difficult to really plan and effect. The graphics are better than Age of Empires and the scenery is lush and vibrant. Gameplay is fun ala Age of Emires, but limited: If a free for all is what you want, brawl on. If you want tactics and strategy, try Combat Mission from Batlefront.com.
