Summary: Not too good.
Review: OK, if this was the only combat flight simulation I had ever seen I would think it was pretty cool. For a Jane's flight sim circa 2002 however, it's not too good. The sound, graphics, and gameplay are not only not up to the standards of recent combat flight sims such as IL2 Sturmovik, they are not even up to the standards of prior Jane's flight sims such as WWII Fighters. If you don't have that sim, or Microsoft CFS2, or Sturmovik, or even European Air War,..

Summary: DANGER!! DANGER!! WARNING WILL ROBINSON, WARNING!!!!!!!
Review: Without any reservation, evasion or questions to the contrary I can unequivocally state that this game -- "JANES: ATTACK SQUADRON" by XICAT -- is =BY FAR= the worst (and disappointing) flight sim released for the public market in my memory. What a lost opportunity. I had assumed JAS was an expansion pack or an enhancement to the outstanding JANES WWII FIGHTERS. After all it has been over four years and is only reasonable that an JANES WWII FIGHTERS improvement is on the horizon. But sadly this is not the case. Indeed, this sim is so poorly designed by XICAT that it borders on negligence and malfeasance. And quite frankly, I find it astonishing that the name JANES appears on the cover. Like many gamers I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire JANES and Electronic Arts flight sim line for years. (And still do.) Quality sims such as USAF, WWII FIGHTERS and IL-2 STURMOVIK immediately come to mind for what they are: classic examples of design and production excellence -- or enjoyable, true and authentic flight simulators. Yet I believe the fact that JAS even made it to the market -- in its current form -- is a sad testament to the little consideration XICAT have for the consumer or gamers whom enjoy the flight sim genre.

To compare the inferiority of JAS with a previous JANES release is difficult. Despite the simple fact that I have been flying aircraft on PC's for twenty years I cannot recall (offhand) playing a sim as poorly designed as JAS. The graphics and limited gameplay of JAS is so abhorrent that the game is definitely outclassed by the older flight sim designs of just five years ago. Moreover, I don't give a damn what kind of graphics card or monster processor you own -- it isn't going to make =it= happen. I will compare the graphics and gameplay of JAS with older games on older systems . . . such as F-19 STEALTH FIGHTER on Commodore 64.

Again, I can go negative with minute details but will not waste my time or your time. The bottom line is this: Just avoid JANES: ATTACK SQUADRON at ALL COST. Your hard earned money is not worth this piece of trash. I only wish someone told me . . . what I am sharing with you now.
