Summary: Awesome! My Favorite FPS
Review: I am really into this game. The graphics are very good, even on my mid-grade system. I installed more ram and it really made a difference.
First of all the single player is fun and challenging. A little problem I have noticed is if the enemies just get a slight glimpse of you they are coming after you. I guess I have been spoiled by Metal Gear Solid 2, but this game is mostly about killing everyone in sight(except on a few levels where if you are caught the mission is over.) It will take around 8-10 hours to beat on medium difficulty.
Now for the real reason to buy this game, MULTIPLAYER!!! You play is two teams as either the Allies(Americans) or the Axis(Germans). You have different objectives on the maps like stealing secret documents, blowing up satellite towers, sinking enemy submarines, etc. Their are 4 classes on the teams to play as, soldier, engineer, medic, and Lieutenant. The voice commands are very helpful during the game like asking for ammo or a medic, backup, etc.
This is a great game and it doesn't require a 2ghz pc to run. If you are a quake or just a first person shooter fan this game is definitely for you! I've had it since December 01' and it has quickly became my favorite game.

Summary: Absolutely amazing! ID team rocks
Review: I play the demo version before I bought this game, and I can tell you this game is good, also I read pretty good reviews about this game before it is out on the market. RTCW is the future classic of Wolfenstein 3D. Not just only that, this game is made with Quake3 engine that brings you realisticism, just like quake3 arena. RTCW contains good lightening & fog effects if your hardware supports it. Environments, players, and weapons reload action is just smooth and realistic. Enemies A.I is pretty good, because you get to choose from Easy to Nightmare mode.I heard that some people complaint about the enemies A.I, they said the enemy is too easy to kill, but I just guess that they haven't try the nightmare mode yet, because in hard mode or nightmare mode, the enemies A.I will increases...its just like they got smarter, when you shoot them, they will duck down and they will dodge your bullets or rockets. If you throw them a grenade, they will kick it back towards you and they will run away to avoid the explosion. I suggest that after purchasing this game, try to download the gamepatch for RTCW from www.planetquake.com....and this patch will adds more flavor to the game. Now lets talk about the gameplay and maps, they are just perfect from head to toe. I beat the game serveral times because it brings you the action and fun. The whole game started out during WWII, and you are an american secret agent named B.J Blackowitz, you will be escape from capture in Nazi Germany's cell, and you will complete each objectives and stops the Nazi's evil plan from bringing Heinrich back to life. During the mission, you will encounter Nazi soldiers(all class), zombies and Nazi Super Soldat(Bio-Mechanical weapon) plus you get to play assasinate mission, assasinate Nazi Generals and Major. This is just part of the fun that you will encounter in single player mode, but you will get more than that in Multiplayer Mode because you can be on either side of the team, Axis or Allies. This game is worth buying, and I am just waiting for the expansion pack to come out. As you can see, ID is the pioneer of First Player Shooting games. Some people just tried to compare Medal Of Honor-Allied Assault with RTCW, and I say Medal of Honor is pretty good, but RTCW's gameplay and Allied assault's gameplay are so different, because they have different plot, RTCW is to stop Nazi's evil plan(resurrect Heinrich from Hell), and MOHAA's objective is to win the war. Because of many first player shooting titles out there to choose from, gamers become much pickier, but think about if this game was created 5-6 years ago, I guess people will be stunt out by what they see, all the other first player shooting games out in the market right now, they are just following the footsteps of ID software or even some of them will borrow the technology from ID software to develope a different title, but think carefully...Who is the pioneer of First player shooting game? Well anyway, both games are fun to play, I owned a copy of MOHAA after I bought RTCW, and Electronic Arts are using ID's Quake3 engine and ID programmer's help to produce MOHAA. I agree with some hardcore online player's opinion about MOHAA....is the fact that what happen if MOHAA is being made without Q3 engine, it would not be fun afterall, because all that realistic sound and graphics will be gone and it will cause the gameplay less interesting. I am just another weekend warrior for the online gaming stuff, I have to work during weekdays and weekend is just game time for me to relax my mind. Well no more words and wisdom from me, go grab a copy for yourself...hardcore gamers and as I always said to my co-worker..."Seeing is Believing".

Summary: One of the best WWII first-person shooters ever
Review: The first time I came in contact with RTCW was when some friends of mine and I played the Beach multiplayer demo at a LAN gathering. Basically, everyone who played it went through a religious realization of how great the multiplayer experience was, and we all looked forward to the official release.

I was certainly not let down at all. Although the Beach was still by far the best multiplayer map in the game (and easily one of the best multiplayer maps of all time), the others were still excellent. The ways in which all the various classes of players could collaborate made the game team-orientated in a very original way. Although the engineer was the only completely necessary class in most cases to win a match, having an even distribution of players using all the classes made for a much easier time in achieving the objectives. For instance on the beach map, the Allies needed to retrieve some documents inside Castle Wolfenstein. In order to get inside the castle, engineers were required to plant dynamite and blow the castle walls (Axis engineers could diffuse the dynamite). Medics keep the engineers and other players alive to carry out the task, lieutenants feed everyone ammunition and throw airstrikes to eliminate the opposing threats, and soldiers employ a panzerfaust, mauser sniper rifle, venom (handheld gattling gun), or flamethrower to provide additional protection. Though RTCW was not the first game to invent player classes, it employed these classes in new ways that provided for fantastic gameplay.

Also, the single-player campaign was excellent and I still consider it one of the best of all the games I've ever played. I thought the storyline was pretty cool, and enjoyed how the writers weaved together fact and fiction concerning WWII and Himmler's work in the paranormal. The main character is BJ Blazkowicz, a captured US soldier who escapes from Castle Wolfenstein and encounters both Nazi enemies and undead demons in an effort to thwart the Germans and win the war for the Allies. In addition to the weapons listed in the multiplayer description, the game also features such weapons as the Thompson, MP40, Colt, Lugar, pinapple grenades, and potato mashers. My favorite single-player experience is a level later on in the game when Blazkowicz is required to sneak throughout a German village and eliminate eight important generals. The village is armed with an alarm system and if an enemy spots him, they can pull the alarm and the level resets. Basically, the level requires a player to use only a knife or a silenced weapon and contributes to the invention of the Covert Ops class in the sequel to RTCW, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, which is another game I very highly recommend (also, the game is free).

Summary: mm.. why do I get this feeling I am playing QUAKE II?
Review: I think it is pretty clear that this game has a very good graphic engine ( at least for indoor scenes ) and it is nice to
see it in action with more ease (in quake III arena you are way
too busy fragging around to have the luxury to look at the scene...
Gameplay however is obsolete... mazes, secret doors,
levers to pull, more levels... more mazes..ambushes..
weird monsters to shoot down .. and a big boss to kill
to give you a sense of major accomplishment at the end
of every major level... doesn't that sound familiar?
The AI as well is disappointing .. and please if you
have german soldiers in a game make them speak with sensible
german sentences!
Don't get me wrong.. I loved Quake II but that is no
reason to play it forever under different names and better
graphics. The storyline leaves quite a bit to be desired
as well..there are a few moments when you do feel a sense of
involvement..but RTCW is really a weird mix.. in one mission
you are fighting Doom-like zombies, or even zombie-knights
who remind you of a fantasy game, then a moment later you are
gunning down nazi soldiers..then half-machine-half-human monsters
that are definitely similar to your old Quake II friends..
I understand you have to have a flexible mind to play and enjoy
video games but this is asking a bit too much!
I did like the game somewhat though...it does have the merit
of reminding me that americans did fight a just war once..
while now are risking their lives and lots of other innocent
lives to fatten the wallet of the President of United Oilers..

Summary: Take it from someone who isn't all that great at shooters...
Review: This game is amazing. I am not a die-hard game fanatic, but this game could change that. Activision has developed a visually stunning product, using OpenGL/Quake III technology, that will keep you glued to your chair for a couple days (unless you have a job!). Despite a seemingless glut of 3d shooters on the market, this one is worth buying. The game and AI get progressively tougher from start to finish. The only aspect I thought needed help were the cinemas that advance the story line after every few maps. The graphics are chunky and lifeless, nothing like the introduction to the story. Despite that, even someone with limited "skillz" will find themselves playing the game over and over again. The multiplayer mode adds even more fun. It's like the cracker jack prize in the box. I would have to liken it to Team Fortress Classic MOD for Half-Life. Basically, you kill, die and then respawn. Like most online shooters, some maps are awesome and some just plain tedious. All together, this game is definately worth owning.

Summary: It's a war out there! A dark, scary, yet thrilling game!
Review: For the most part, the FPS genre never thrilled me much. I always thought the Quake trilogy was bland and overhyped. The idea of mindlessly shooting people to bloody pulp has gotten old. Half-Life was by far the only fps to live up to my standards with a mixture of action and adventure with a series of objectives. Return to Castle Wolfenstein brings more than what i ever really expected from and fps. RTCW manages to go beyond the limites of Half-Life or even Quake III. This is by far, the greatest fps game to date! Ironically, this game was created from the same engine used in my least favorite fps (Quake III).

RTCW's graphics are incredible and well detailed. You'll need a pretty hefty system to make them look the way they should be though. The AI is hauntingly intelligent and life-like while the sound is incredibly realistic. The creators have also done a nice job in creating a WWII/Nazi Germany atmosphere.

A word of warning though...THIS GAME IS VERY DARK!!! This could almost classify as a horror story. Do evil Nazi soldiers, zombies, unspeakable monsters ripping you up with machine guns and rockets thrill you? I'd just like to see how long you could manage playing this game with the lights off and the speakers cranked on full! Go ahead...give it a try!

Well, as for the multiplayer...I never tried it out. I personally never had much of an attraction for multiplayer. The game seems to have a promising multiplayer function but the real deal of the game lies in the single player. You just gotta check that game out. It definately worth a buy. Just look at those screen shots. You'll be convinced!

Summary: Multiplayer support makes it all worth while...
Review: Return to Castle Wolfenstein is an amazing game in single player mode. It sports amazing graphics, audio, gameplay, and an atmosphere that is outdone only by Aliens vs. Predator 2. Single player mode is enough to keep any fan of first person shooters awake for nights. But this games REAL strength is in it's multiplayer support. If you have a broadband internet connection (DSL/Cable/T1), you will marvel at how fun and addicting this game is when played over the Net. It has various multiplayer game modes, and you can not only choose Axis or Allies, but also what role you will take on. Will you be a soldier, medic, lieutenant, or engineer? The storm the beach map is awesome. I spent hours playing with 20+ people on this map over a 784k/128k DSL connection. There's no hiccups in the gameplay like exist in other first person shooters played over the same connection.

The verdict: THUMBS UP! Buy it if you like these types of games. DEFINATELY buy it if you like playing online against human opponents. The multiplayer game is better than most others out there.

Summary: Review of SINGLE PLAYER game.
Review: I'm a die-hard single player only type gamer, so this review is based on just that aspect. I've never tried the multiplayer. To briefly explain, I bought my first PC so I wouldn't have to socialize with other people. I've tried some multiplayer games, and even had fun doing so, but nowhere near the fun I've had playing a good self-contained single player game. Hey, if you love multiplayer, more power to you. It's just not my cup of tea. That said, on with the review.

No doubt, this is a fine looking game. My system is a Win 98 home-built Athlon 1.2 ghz with a geForce 2 32 meg video card and 256 megs of system ram. It ran fine for the most part, but I did experience fairly frequent lock-ups, possibly because I hadn't yet updated my video card drivers. The first several levels almost put me to sleep, having seen environments just like them in No One Lives Forever. However, I hung with it and was rewarded quickly with some much more interesting level design. Gameplay was immersive, with enemy machine gun fire ripping up the floorboards in front of me on several occasions. Enemy AI was decent, but nothing really new or spectacular. I was disappointed with the relentless linearity of the game. Most doors are locked and can't be opened, so you are led along a path that the designers obviously want you to follow. I much prefer a more open-ended design. I love to explore, and this game didn't allow for much of that. Even the original Wolfenstein 3D allowed you to explore everywhere. But this is my own personal preference. Some may enjoy the linearity of RTCW. Also, I'm a little tired of enemy 'bosses', though this feature helps the game remain truer to the original. Also, this game seemed a bit on the short side. By the time I was battling the final boss, I figured I was about halfway through the game. I'm just estimating here based on my gut, but it seemed about half as long as Half Life or No One Lives Forever. The game is fun, no doubt, or I wouldn't have given it 4 stars. It just didn't blow me away like I figured it would. Possibly my expectations were too high.

Summary: simply awesome...a classic
Review: I've beaten Medal of Honor, Soldier of Fortune, Half-life, Opposing force, to name a few, and RTCW is my favorite. It is better than Medal of Honor hands down in my opinion, because the atmosphere, weapons, excellent enemies, and the immersive gameplay are just so much better. The flamethrower alone puts all other flamethrowers in other games to shame. The enemies are downright scary. I dont remember being so immersed in a game since Thief or System Shock II. Nazis and the occult, what more could u ask for? mwahahaha

Summary: Good game, would make an odd movie
Review: Return to Castle Wolfenstein is an excelent mix of two things gamers hate (Nazis and the Undead) and two things they love (team based multiplayer and story based single player) into one excelent game, loosely based on Wolfenstein 3D, the harbinger of DOOM, Quake, Unreal, Halflife, and all those other games.

RtCW's single player puts you in the shoes of BJ Something-Polish-that-starts-with-a-"B". It also puts you in a cell with a dead guard in front of you. From there on, you're on your own. Expect no backup, and ton's of Nazis, undead, bio-mechanical monsters, and demons. No dog's though. Undead, sure, but not dogs. You have the standards-pistol, machine gun, big machine gun, rocket launcher, grenade. No shotgun, but that's the only standard lacking.
One thing that the game gets props for is the stealth posibilites. Although the two missions that require stealth are a nucance, the rest is top notch. You can sneak up behind someone, and stab them in the back for instant death; in the other excelent death-to-Nazi game, Medal of Honor, the closest you can do is pistol whip a couple times. Although they will find you soon enough, it's still fun to see how long it takes to be spotted.

Multiplayer is good as well: Axis holds bunker on beach for allies to break into, and that kind of thing. It works quite well.

OK, that's out of the way. Now, it's time to just close with one thought. Someone played Return to Castle Wolfenstein, a game where Nazi's summon the undead, and thought: "Boy, this is really historically signifigant stuff. Let's make a film about it." Who are these people? If you're going to make a movie about a game, try for something with a good plot. I bet even the creators weren't serious about the whole Nazi-Undead conspiracy.

So: this is a good game for anyone that likes shooting Nazis, undead, or just thing in general. Enjoy.
