Summary: Check the fine print
Review: Check the fine print on the system requirements. I got this game for Christmas, installed it and found that it SPECIFICALLY rejects my video card (Nvidia GE Force 4 MX).

Summary: Cannot locate the cd-rom?
Review: I had high expectations for this game. I played the single player demo and the multiplayer demo - both worked fine on my nearly brand new system (P4-3Ghz - 1GB Ram, Radeon 9600XT 256MB, XP SP2). However, I installed my purchased copy, only to encounter some Firewall VBscript error at the end of installation, and then when attempting to play the game, it cannot find the installation CD1 disk. I attempted to install the game on my second PC and encountered the same error. So, I returned my copy to Amazon and requested an exchange for another copy since I suspected maybe the disk was damaged. I received my 2nd copy only 2 days later (great return process Amazon!), reinstalled the game, and again had the same error. I have a Lite-On LDW-851S DVD/CD-RW combo drive and updated the firmware per information I found on the EA site, but that didn't resolve anything. I haven't had any other compatibility problems with other games (ex UT2004) and this drive, or with the drive itself so it must be something with the game. I guess I'll have to go back to Call Of Duty for my WWII genre action gaming.

Summary: Good Game
Review: I played this game on a P4 2.0 & Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 with no problem. When you buy a game look on the box for system requirements. If your graphics card can't play it then buy a new one. If you have Windows ME or 98 then buy 2000 or XP. Quit your whining or stick with the cheapo games cause in a year or 2 you will have to replace your card anyways, if you want to continue playing PC games.

The game is fun and not that hard. If you rush in and attack you'll get blasted, but if you use tactic it's no problem. I made it through Guadacanal with 3 health remaining on realistic mode. The graphics are fresh and the story line is an actual story line. It's nice to see more character personality than; "Go blow up a bridge and ammo dump, then shoot more Nazis."
The loading times aren't that bad as well. The longest it took me was 30 seconds.

The bad side is a bug for the directors cut. It doesn't allow you to get all the medals for Guadalcanal even if you get all bonus objectives, so hopefully a patch will be out soon for it.

Overall it's fun to play. It has many qualities over CoD such as bonus material and longer play (CoD was too short) and so on while CoD excels on graphics and such. I'm a fan of both series. Why sit and wait a year for an expansion playing the same game everyday when I can buy some other war games and satisfy myself until more do come out. Don't fall into the hype and choose one over the other. They're both good.

Summary: Flying an airplane in a first person shooter game?
Review: I was looking forward to this game, especially after I got stuck trying to kill a tank in "Call of Duty United Offensive". But that's another story. Pacific Assault started off fine and I adapted to the new features such as the medic and extra dialogue. I also managed to struggle through the USS Arizona episode although I didn't enjoy it. What really turned me off about the game was the flying sequence! I have plenty of flight sims so I can fly any type of airplane any time I want and with a joystick the way airplanes are meant to be flown!!!!! Right now I am stuck trying to knock out the aircraft carrier and destroyer with an airplane controlled by a mouse. It is extremly aggravating especially when I discovered another little quirk. If you do manage to knock out the ships and you aren't close to your buddies when you depart the area, your engine quits and won't restart. What a bunch of BS!

Summary: Mediocre entry into an otherwise awesome series
Review: I was somewhat disappointed with MOH:PA, since the original MOH remains one of my favorite PC games.
CONS:
-Long load times, even on "quick load".
-Guadalcanal level is tedious. I was hoping for "The Thin Red Line", an assault on the gun infested hill, but instead there's level after level of trudging through identical jungle, attacking Jap-infested villages that don't resemble real villages at all.
-Friendly AI. Never have I got so POed at squad mates constantly getting in the way, or blocking me. They fight well, but they get in the way.
-The Fighter plane level!
-Enemy soldiers seemed nearly impossible to kill at times, taking massive amounts of bullets.
Now the PROS:
-Graphics. Pretty game, and ran smoothly on my P4 2.8, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1G memory. Background programs off.
-Tarawa was a blast (literally), though the beach landing was aggravatingly hard at medium skill level.
-The fighter plane level!
-Banzai charges and human waves a nice addition, gave it real historical feel.

My advice? Buy a used copy, or wait until the price drops a little.

Summary: VERY DISAPPONTING
Review: I, like so many others who have learned to love the MOH series, could not be much less impressed with this new title. The gameplay is horrendous, the graphics are choppy & lacking detail, the expanded dialogue is a waste of mine (& yours too if you choose to play this game). I said that I would remain dedicated to this series, but have since followed all the others & have switched over to the Call of Duty series. I still prefer the gameplay & storyline of the first three MOH games, but it would now take a lot to convince me to return to future releases of the MOH series. Unfortunately, I expect that I am stuck with the Pacific Assault game, since no one should still wish to spend any amount of money after reading 99% of the reviews printed on this & other sites. Sorry MOH fans. They've ruined it for me!

Summary: Gripers miss the point on MOH: Pacific Assault
Review: If you're reading these reviews you are most likely a big fan of military real-time strategy games like I am. One thing I've noticed in many of the reviews are people carping about the load times. Sure, its a bit slow, but not excessively so. A lot of the younger types never had to deal with loading times on the old 386/486 PC's. You could start one of them and go have lunch before it was ready to play! Anyway, to get back to MOH:PA. The graphics are superb - you better make sure you've got a good card. I had to replace mine even though the one I had installed met the minimum hardware spec. Gameplay is intense on most scenes, and the variety to scenarios is the best I've seen so far in any war game. The Guadalcanal sequences are relentless.

Another thing I like about this is the accuracy historically speaking. Weapons are correct for the time period, etc., and they did a super job on the enemy AI. You can almost feel that bayonet sliding into your gut when you screw up and get overrun!

Many say "Call of Duty" is a better game. I would say that each game is excellent, and any differences are largely due to the approach taken by the writers. Each has its subtleties, its strong and weak points. On balance, they are about equal. Enjoy MOH:PA for what it is, and for giving us some inkling of what it was like to go through those events face to face.

God Bless all those brave men who went in harm's way for us all.

Summary: Medal Of Honor Pacific Disappointment
Review: Like most reading this I love the WWII shooter, great attention and detail went into MOH:AA and Call Of Duty. The expansion packs for both of these games were very well done and were worth the money. Now enter Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault a total disapointment to the genre, It appears only as eye candy, the graphics are excellent, but you can't base the strength of a game on the graphics alone. The game suffers from a number of little problems that become much larger as the game progresses. The first problem being that you don't have the feel of the first MOH, I felt the original set a good standard for this genre and Call Of Duty refined it even further, this version however has abandoned it, if something works you should leave it alone and try to focus on the story, the gameplay and the graphics engine, I was hoping to feel as if this would be a transition into the new game from the original but it was anything but. The "near death" experience in the game is ridiculous, and you will see it over and over so get used to it, the medic aspect is also annoying, he must rush over and heal you before the enemy comes over and stomps you in the face or shoots you at point blank range while just looming in the distance is your medic or other squad mate standing around and watching and doing nothing while you are brutally killed. Get this he can only heal you four times in a mission, where did he get his medical training? and he's constantly vomitting while treating your wounds!! so don't go looking for health packs they are almost impossible to find when you need one. I would have prefered to just die on the spot as in the original. The load times are also bad, whether you are starting a new level or just loading the autosave after being killed. The game has a different type of savegame where it seems you only can have one manual save, not multiple ones to choose from. You can save as many times as you like but your newest save overwrites your last manual save, so if you decide to save at a spot that may prove to have been a bad idea don't go looking for the save just before it because it doesn't exist, you could loose several minutes if you have to resume at a computer autosave to get back to where you originally were, sometimes up to 10 minutes or more. The weapons in the game are very limited, I felt like I was the enemy after awhile, because I almost exclusively had to use their shoddy weapons. I don't ever remember getting my hands on a Garrand or M1A1, when I was out of ammo I had to grab the enemy's weapon which is okay but I practically used their weapons throughout the entire game, even the sniper rifle, didn't we bring enough of our own weapons with us to this war? I also can't stand how my squad mates tell me to be "quiet" and then as soon as I throw a grenade everybody yells "frag, get down", you really loose the element of surprise with these squad tactics, they blew it with this version of MOH, it really is the little things in this game that are important, and they are all awol. My squad mates never die, they spew cliches constantly, you can't skip the cut scenes and you are always the guy to carry out the critical tasks while receiving no support from your team and the enemy bonzai charges become predictable. Oh and by the way just wait till you experience the "fighter plane" sequence, I almost threw my DVD version in the garbage right on the spot, "Hey Tommy climb out of the gunners position at 5 thousand feet and crawl up front to the pilots position and take over the controls of the plane" after your pilot bails out over the ocean because he has blood in his eyes, then become a crash course pilot, heavy emphasis on the crash part, shoot down zeros and bomb aircraft carriers and battleships. This game could have been great but it feels like it was rushed onto shelves for a quick buck. Call Of Duty puts this game to shame, if you don't own it grab this instead it is what a WWII shooter should be, they should have taken notes from these guys, even the original MOH got it right and is a respectable game. I feel that after spending $ 59.99 on a game I should get something outstanding like DOOM 3 or Half-Life 2, this game is almost as big a disappointment as Men Of Valor. Time to hand out a few apologies EA, no wonder PC Gamer only gave this game a 79%(good) rating. Oh well perhaps Brothers In Arms will be something to look forward to.

Summary: Watch The platform your on....Cause Amazon Screwed up..again
Review: Thanks AMAZON for showing that Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, Director's Edition can be played on WIN 98 / ME / XP. If you look at the top of the screen it shows Platform WIN 98 / ME / XP, but if you check the Game box it states you can only use it on 2000 or XP!!! You soon realize when you get a visual C++ error using ME that it now must be returned thus you having to pay for shipping and wasting your time! You now know why some people don't like shopping online. Amazon.com bent me over and screwed me once again.

Summary: Not good enough
Review: While the graphics are top-notch, the plot is seriously lacking. As some reviewers have stated, this game pales in comparison to Call of Duty. In essence, what the developers tried to do was capitalize on what the Call of Duty series perfected.
The Pearl Harbor action was well done...BUT...I seriously doubt that the Japanese 1) used that many aircraft and 2) could afford to lose that many aircraft in such a strike.
After that...the game goes down hill and in a big hurry. It becomes very repetitive and on any difficulty setting above Easy it becomes a product of frustration. Die, reload, try again, die...you get the idea. It appears that the enemy AI is much more adept at seeing through the jungle foliage than the friendly Marine AI units. Another thing: it also appears that the enemy AI concentrates on YOU more than on your squad.
And then we get to the piloting the fighter-bomber... Whoever came up with this part should have been canned. WHY did the pilot bail? Just so that you can pilot a plan and do some WWII Pacific theater piloting....with a mouse! Horrendous.
Anyways...I would recommend this game to players but only once it hits the bargain bin.

BTW...the multiplayer aspects of the game are terrible as well. Not fun at all.
