Summary: The Best Delta Force of them ALL!
Review: There are many letdowns to the game, and it is not perfect. However, it provides an enjoyable gameplay experience, especially for fans of the movie, Black Hawk Down. There are many pros to the game, so let's start with them. For one thing, the levels are very well made, and almost compete with MOH Allied Assault. The most enticing missions take place in the Bakara Market or Mogadishu. Then there are the other missions where you can prance around for as long as you want, but that doesn't make it very fun. I'd say that this game has its biggest flaw in the time it takes to accomplish a level. In some places, you will finish a mission in 3-5 minutes, which, in my opinion, is a real bummer. What is even worse are the areas where the level is not very long at all, but it takes you an hour-and-a-half to get through it simply because there are swarms of unseen enemies. When you die a million times, it's hard to feel like a real Special Forces agent. If only there was a way to make the levels long and action-packed but not short and extremely frustrating! The other thing missing from a game like this and all of the Ghost Recon games is difficulty selection. There is just one damn hard difficulty in DFBHD and that is very annoying. It would be nice for a less-professional gamer to go through and be able to get shot 100 times before they die, just to get a feel for the level. After beating the game, unless they are mere sissies, then they can go back and play the game on a "hard" setting. the game lacks that feature. Possibly the last con are the times when action drags. When DFBHD gets to the action sequences they are very fun, but other times the game falls into a pit. Oh, and one last thing, the multiplayer is NOT top-notch. The games are nowhere near as fun as the Unreal Tournament scenarios, and to be worse, they are highly unstable. There are times when you can be in the middle of a multiplayer match when the game will just crash on top of you. For these reasons, I have stuck to multiplayer games such as Unreal Tournament. Overall, if you are looking for some nice, single-player gamelay then you should check out Black Hawk Down, the best game in the DF series by far! If you are looking for sheer multiplayer options, then there are many other games for a gamer like you. My Rating-8.2.

Summary: Better than previous DF games - but that isn't saying much
Review: BHD was supposed to be Novalogics entry into the 'real' FPS arena. Unfortunately, it simply took outstanding grahics and a recognizable subject matter (the book and movie BHD) and cobbled it together with some of the same old AI problems and short-sighted features.

First, the AI -

You highly trained Delta Force and ranger operators have a hard time hitting things 3 feet away - fortunately for u, so does the enemy. I have watched my teammates and some somalis blow off 30 or so rounds at each other from 10 feet away and not hit a damn thing. Also, you cannot drive any of the vehicles in the game (tho you can be a gunner in most) leaving you to the driver Ai which is basically ' drive straight to the way point even if 20 guys with rocket propelled grenades are in front of you'.

Your weapon selection is a bit pointless (admittedly, many good games also suffer from this such as ghost recon and Rogue spear). For instance, you often are faced with the choice of an M16 or an AR15. the M16 has greater range, but the AR15 has a scope. You would be out of your mind to take the M16. Now the M16 with the grenade launcher might seem better, but there is an Ar15 with the same grenade launcher as well. Similiarly, you can choose between a few machine guns as well with similiar issues. the SAW is more accurate than the more powerful M60, but it's a machine gun for crying out loud - it is hardly like you are going to snipe with it.

As far as options within the game, you will be surprised to learn that you are assigned an operative at the start of every mission - you are not given a choice. Your weapons are usually customizable, but you may not select a Delta Force member vs. a ranger or what have you. Also, the missions are pretty linear, tho you can select from 3 at a time, you must eventually defeat those missions to see the whole 'campaign'. the campaign itself is more like a bunch of mission thrown together with a few weak plot elements thrown in to try like mad to connect them in some way.

In multiplayer, you will love the options as long as you were not planning on replaying the campaign missions with your friends. there is no Co-op mode. This was the biggest disappointment for me. I expected a co-op mode and it was for this that i purchased the game. Instead you get the standard ho-hum capture the flag, death match and king of the hill modes. the 12 year olds that like to camp near spawn points and rack up 400 kills will love it. Tactical oriented players who like squad based team work with friends will go back to ghost recon.

The graphics are pretty good here, and overall, it is much better than Task force dagger or any other Delta game of the past, but Novalogic is still lagging behind here. This game quickly degenerates into a Doom style shoot 'em up due to the lack of good story line, poor choices for customizing your operative and shoddy AI.

Wait for Rainbow 6 3 or play ghost recon a while longer. ...

EDIT 4/12/03
Within the past few days the novalogic team has offically stated there are no plans for a co-op mode add on or patch due to the intense nature of the AI. Seems they wored very hard to get your teammates to shoot each other and to pock mark the walls of the buuildings of mogadishu with their M-16s.
Not exactly reaching for a better review from the team work oriented types like myself.....

Summary: A FPS that is a blast to play
Review: This is an outstanding game - best played in the multiplayer mode however. The single player mode was a bit less satisfying than I hoped for - the AI for the friendly units is better in Medal of Honor games, but the overall experience in details and graphics - especially online is something worth buying this game for. I am anxiously awaiting the add-on game to see what additional features they have added into this already fine and fun product.
If you want a FPS that can get you up and running and into the action quickly - without having to study all the manuals you need to in the Rainbow series yet maintain the most of the realism then this is it.

Summary: Simply amazing!
Review: I am a huge fan of Novalogic's Delta Force series. Unfortunately, their past two games have dissapointed me greatly. But no more! With the arrival of Black Hawk Down comes a groundbreaking and amazing experience that will once again put the spotlight on the forgotten and undercredited people at Novalogic. The A.I. is amazing and almost comes to terms with Unreal Tournament. The weapons are superb and extremely detailed. The enviroment is deeply immersive, beautifully rendered, and massive. The gameplay is rediculously fun while at the same time being challenging enough to test your skills but not ... you off. The graphics are improved amazingly from the past games in the series and really help to add to realism. The sound really adds to the depth and atmosphere of the game from the barking minigun as it rains death down on hapless Somalis, to the devestating frag grenades boisterous explosion. I can honestly say that in the limited time I have spent with this game, it has left me with almost more memories than any other. Whether you are a fan of the movie or just your average gamer, you gotta check this out. Buy it now! Don't wait!

Summary: Meant to be played on a high-end graphics card.
Review: I played demo of it on my old geforce 4 graphics card and thought the game looks ugly and not much fun.
A few months ago when I received full version of the game came as bundle with Radeon 9800 pro I didn't even install it. Few weeks ago one boring weekend when I finally had no games to play I thought just try again since I have upgraded my graphics card.

When I finally started the game I couldn't believe my eye. It turned out to be the best FPS game I have. I think it looks better than Unreal 2, Tomb raider: angel of darkness (DirectX 9 game), Hitman2 or halo.

Single player mission is great as each mission has very different and not repetitive.

Music and sound effect is also a top notch. Although some weapon sounds bit different than real, according to my friend who spent 7 year in the army. It didn't matter to me, as I can't tell.

Pros:
The best FPS I have played.
Fantastic graphics! Best Explosion, landscape and night-vision.
Lots of fun single player mission.

Cons:
Stupid AI. Enemies are behaving like pac-man ghost.
Everything is scripted event. No VICE CITY or DEUS EX here.
Make sure you have high-end graphics card otherwise it would look like 3 years old game.

Overall:
Very enjoyable, exciting game with wonderful graphics.

Summary: Awsome game
Review: I have this game along with all the others before it. This game is the best of the bunch by far. Game play is very good. I am in the military and the wepons used in this game even sound like the real thing. The only thing Negative that I have to say is that the scopes on the M16,M4,and the MP5 should be adjustable for zooming in on a target. By far this game is the best of all first person shooter games that I have played.

Summary: JUST PLAIN AWESOME
Review: This is going to be one of those break-through games. There I said it. If you want a Great First Person Shooter look no further. I have been playing the multi-player Demo now for a couple of weeks and am already addicted! If you have not tried it go to Novalogic or almost any other Game Review site for the download and give it a try. As always, the better your hardware, the better your gaming experience. 16 and 32 MB Video Cards will struggle with the detail of this one. Now is the time to upgrade to that 64 or 128 MB Video Card!! The texture and sound of this game is simply amazing! Not only can you fight on foot or as a group but also from helicopter and hum-v!! The demo is great and just wait for the finished game!! I have mine pre-ordered and cant wait! I dont understand the small amount of negative feedback for the theme of the game. People who give grief to Novalogic for the games theme say nothing to themes of WWII, Desert Storm, Afganistan etc... Oh well, cant please everyone. Try the Demo, I bet you will come back to Amazon for next months release!!

Summary: Almost Ghost Recon'ish, not so much Delta Force
Review: I have the purchased version and I must say that the first thing you notice is the awesome graphics. I give it an A+. Given that, the first problem is the name. Delta Force V: Black Hawk Down. What they should have called it was just Black Hawk down because this game isn't really anything like the other Delta Force games and I know because I have every one of them. So if you're looking forward to a better Delta Force game, stick with Land Warrior. That's not to say that this game isn't enjoyable by any means, it's just not really a Delta Force game. In addition to that I'll detail below the good the bad and the ugly in the game thus far. Keep in mind I have not finished it yet.

Good
+ Incredible Graphics.
+ improved night vision
+ lots of close combat with the "skinnies"
+ Can jump on every single mounted gun available
Bad
- Too linear
- They limit the weapons, sometimes to just one
- Redundancy in the weapons

Ugly
- The way points are a must or you're "awol"
- Not nearly as much freedom to roam like the other DF games

Summary: Best shooter I've played
Review: This game really rocks, I beat the game and play online. That is more exciting however, mainly because there your enemies have some brains. In single player games it's way too easy to kill the enemies. The graphics are exceptional, the buildings are extremly realistic and the whole game is full of action. The weapons are something else, you have extrordenary fire power at your hands but you are only alowed to use certain weapons in certain missions. Over all I would say this game gets two thumbs up. I would say three, but I only have two hands. I didn't noticed many glitches which are completly normal in computer games. The only glitches I ever saw were very simple things, such as graphity on walls flashing while moving towards it. The fixed weapons are also incredable. You can use .50s on hummers, and minni guns on choppers. I found this exciting and efective because of the massive amounts of fire that the guns put out. The apponents are very unintelligent, but they are well placed and are very effective at tacking out you and your forces. Many missions are littered with land mines and heavy machine guns making them difficult to defeat. Unfortunatly, your friends are just about as dumb as the skinnys, for instance, when weaving through narrow streets, they often get stuck on walls and will stay in the same place untill either killed, forgroten, or you go back for them. There are also power-ups which give you all your ammo back and your health. They are unrealistic, but exceadingly helpful. How about that? Take a picture.

Summary: No Medal of Honor, but...
Review: This is a fun game, but not realistic, if that matters to you. No weapons recoil is a pretty basic omission that makes things feel artificial. Also, it's way too easy to snipe an enemy at a long distance. Just fire off a burst with your M-16 and he'll go down. I also wish that Novalogic would add more helpful health status. Your health meter is just an outline of a soldier that is green at full health and turns red as you take damage. Hard to assess how much life you have left. Last gripe - limited saves. If I want to save every 5 seconds, let me!

On the good side, furious action and an immersive environment. Your ammunition is limited, so you must plan your targets carefully. Unlike a lot of FPS games, if you just run in guns blazing you'll wind up dead very quickly. Good overall balance.

A lot of people are saying you need a very fast machine to run this game, but I'm playing it just fine at 1024x768 on my P3/600 with a TNT2 32MB video card. I had to install directX 9 to get it to run, but it works fine. I have graphics settings at the normal level at most, but it's playable.
