Summary: Put Together Perfectly
Review: It's nice to have a life; it really is. Wife, kids, golf, tennis; even writing these things is an enjoyable part of it. It all comes to an end though, when a game like Dungeon Siege comes around. Life? Sunshine? Forget it. I don't want it any more. Give me a computer, a dark room, a shut door, and EVERYBODY GET OUT. Indeed, I fear I begin to resemble the little monsters I so relentlessly slaughter while playing this game.

It is a RPG, or role-playing game, which essentially means that you take the part of the primary character during it. In Dungeon Siege the scenario is this: you are a simple farmer, and one morning you wake up and find that a spell has been put on the community, and all kinds of demons and monsters have risen up and are murdering humanity. You have about ten seconds to digest this before they come after you.

Unlike other computer games I have played, such as Age of Empires and Pharaoh, there is no redeeming intellectual value to this one. In those games, there is some history to learn or an ancient historical battle to be refought, but in this one, all those considerations are gone. Your job is to kill monsters, hundreds and hundreds of diverse and different kinds of monsters, over and over again. You want to learn something? Read a book, Einstein.

And what monsters! Abominable snowmen, screeching forest trolls, sword-wielding skeletons, resurrected corpses, flying gargoyles, goblins, giant worms, skeleton dogs, white wolves, boars, swamp witches, cyclopses; my goodness, if there is a horrible beast mentioned in myth or fiction, chances are you'll run into it here, usually in an unexpected and deadly fashion. And they all have something they can get you with: massive clubs, gas, electrical bolts, fire-breathing, swords, bows and arrows; some of the little beasties even surround you and throw rocks at you: believe me, there are a zillion ways to die in this game. (And I'm here to tell you, I experienced them all.)

You start off with your dying neighbor telling you that you must get to town. All you have is a knife. This is pretty much how the game goes. You get to one place, you are given another mission, (or missions), then you go merrily on your way to the next. Each time it gets a little more interesting, and a little more difficult. But you are getting stronger too, depending on which skills you use; and also richer, with the gold you pick up off the enemies' dead bodies or find in hidden treasure chests. This allows you to purchase better and more dangerous weapons; stronger armor, including helmets, gloves, boots, and shields; and spells, if that's what you choose to do. To me, the "shopping" was as fun as anything: picking and choosing cool-looking armor, or weapons such as hammers, axes, bows, swords or clubs. You can't wait to get out there again and hit something with them!

You can also increase your skill as a mage, or magician, by using spells and that sort of thing, and although these types of characters play an important role in the game, I found that playing this kind of character just wasn't as fun. They're weaker, for one thing, and easier to kill; for another, it just doesn't give you the same thrill as bashing some poor, ignorant zombie into the ground.

The sound and the visual effects are really wonderful, spectacular even. Right off the bat, in fact, you're in a forest, confused and uncertain as to what to do next, and what do you know: it starts to rain, with big drops falling everywhere and making that foreboding pitter-patter. During the course of the game you will experience deserts, forest, swamps, snowy mountains, towns and in the end, a magnificently detailed, huge, colorful castle. And of course there are the underground places: mines, crypts, tunnels, dungeons, caves . . . all spectacularly rendered and beautiful to look at. There were many times I simply had to pause the game to drink it all in. It is stunning.

And the sounds: the hum of machinery in the goblin cave, wind blowing, rain falling. I actually turned down the sound while in the swamp a couple of times to be sure the night sounds--crickets, bullfrogs, etc.--weren't coming from outside my window!

The playing of it is a dream. You won't have to practice anything here. All you really need is the left clicker on your mouse. To view what's to the left, move the cursor to the left side of the screen. To get a birds-eye view, move the cursor to the top. To get a more level view, move it to the bottom. Very simple. It'll take you a minute to be playing this.

I am just overwhelmed by this game. In fact, it is so perfectly done in all respects that at various times during the day the remembrance of it comes back like some odd, vivid, intense dream. And the playing of it, of course, literally transfers you to a different world. A world in which you become utterly immersed, and in which real life is forgotten. This is what you want when you play a computer game. It is really a superb creation, and a joy to play.

Summary: Good Graphics, Too Easy to Beat
Review: I am probably the ultimate RPG fan of all time. I have all the great games: BG, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, and the Dark Age of Camelot. As such I can safely say that DS is not great at all. With all the great reviews its been getting you would have expected more. The game is either too easy or too hard to beat. In the beginning it was fun. The graphics are superb, even on my system (Wind98se,128MB,8mb3RD). The world is well made and engrossing. I apprecite the fact that there are no loading screens, which can be a real help. Otherwise, the game isn't that good.

It is far too simple. There is no need of strategy. You only need to click "select all" and lead your guys into the fray. Simply hotkeys a fireball for your mage and hav him chucking mana potions. That's all. All the spells have pretty much infinte castings, and the mages are almost as powerful as the fighters in terms of HP. The mule u can buy is simply useless. It only trudges back and u'll have to continously ressurect it because of low HP, slow speed, and weak HP. Pretty soon the game becomes repatative. Go, walk around, and kill. That's it. U don't have any options such as conversing with NPCs. Your characters have no emotins and are much like zombies. At the easy difficulty I beat it in 5 days, at the hard, I couldn't get past the first group of Krug. Also, doing quests is worthless. You get no experience points, and usually the items that you do get are simply terrible. It also lacks a storyline. I couldn't understand how the elements of the game are connected. The only thing you do is go around and kill evertyone. It doesn't even letr you steal gold.

If you want to go on a killing spree buy it. If you prefer strategy, get Baldur's GateII, Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights. That's it. I give it 2.5 stars.

Summary: yeah... this is a good one
Review: Dungeon Siege continued to woo the crowds at Microsoft's Games Festival, even after most of the audience there had already been privy to the recently distributed press beta build. With some questions lingering after our wholly positive preview, we spoke with Jon Grande from the Microsoft team overseeing the game's development for some answers.

Multiplayer will be a key element to Dungeon Siege's longevity, so how is it going to play? We were able to confirm that only single characters are available to control on multiplayer servers, which means a large part of the gameplay -- party management -- will be omitted. It wasn't clear if you would be able to take a character from single-player into the multiplayer realms, although this seems unlikely.

The game's in-built server browser will be in place to allow for quick match-ups, displaying information such as player levels and locations, so you'll know before joining if you're likely to be able to party together. The developers are expecting and encouraging the formation of guilds and for players to generally play with people they've already adventured with previously.

Interestingly, other types of multiplayer will actually be available, including team deathmatches and capture the flag scenarios, so those tiring of cooperative gaming will really be able to let loose on something smarter than mindless critters (depending on who your opponent is, of course).

Although there are no "instant" portals in Dungeon Siege, teleporting is possible via a series of surreal, dimensional-shifting elevators. Because the game never pauses for a loading screen, this is a clever way of quickly traversing large distances, as the game can sneakily do its background loading while you wait for the elevator to descend and then ascend in another corner of the huge game world.

One aspect of the beta that concerned us was the inability to quickly switch between the many spells in your spellbook. You can assign hotkeys to what type of attack each party member should use, but this is limited to selecting whatever nature or combat spell is currently highlighted. Grande said that they may add the option to hotkey individual spells, but during testing, they found players didn't want the extra duty of micromanaging spells when battles were frenetic enough with up to eight party members. They also found that spells tended to supersede one another, so you didn't make frequent switches. For such an intuitive interface, this still seemed an odd omission, but the game is still being tweaked.

The game should be out in just under a month's time. While you wait, check out the latest screens, which show off a good variation of the game's many environments.

Summary: Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!
Review: 1 word: AWESOME! What can I say: the graphics are great, it's a cool story, you get to blow up various monsters, AWESOME! Some of the key features that make this game so great:

* The world flows completely throughout the entire game. Whenever you change locations (i.e. outside to inside or above ground to below ground), you just go. The game doesn't have to load anything. You just walk wherever you need to walk and the game never pauses (except for the occasional cinematic)
* Pack Mules!! These RULE! Tired of having to choose what stuff to carry back to town and what stuff to leave behind? Or worse, having to make multiple trips to and from the town to sell off your excess inventory? NO PROBLEM! You can take along a pack mule (or 2 or 3) to carry that stuff for you. They simply trudge along in the rear of your party, and when you get to the next town you unload them (although the unloading part can take a little while).
* The graphics are (what else) AWESOME! Totally 3-D, you can zoom waaaaaaaaay in and see every detail of your character (or characters, since you can control a party of up to 8!) Or you can zoom out to get a broader view of the landscape and see what's going on around you. And a STUNNING landscape it is! Beautiful lakes, bridges, trees, snow capped mountains, and an underground lava chamber with lava flows that bubble all around you. Plus, you get to see EACH spell you cast in detail! Listen to the soft whisper of the healing wind; watch closely as the flaming skull hurtles itself toward your enemy; feel the power of the fire rain as it pummels down from the sky. And if you score a prime hit, watch your enemy literally EXPLODE into chunks on the screen . . . duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!
* Gameplay is easy to control - either by clicking on hotspots on the screen or by using hotkeys that you can modify to suit your needs. Even with 8 characters, it is no problem to micro manage each one individually.

What else can I say - AWESOME!

Summary: 2 Thumbs down
Review: This game is so boring, the action is repetitive and takes no skill from the player. All you have to do it point where you want your guys to attack. You don't grow attacked to your character because you can replace it very easy; no strategy is involved in choosing skill or what ever. So me its just a mindless game that is not satisfying.
A day after buying this game I returned it, its just a waste of time. its hard to even call it a hack-in-slash because you don't even click to attack
get Neverwinter Night, or Morrowind, even Diablo II if you want a cool RPG
IF you want boring game easy to play get DS

Summary: hightech_not so fun.
Review: i have a pc that is above average ...
(radeon 7500,p3_1ghz,512mb_w98se)
but this game is aimed at higher hard ware . BUT.
i'm having satisfaction with my pc ,so far because
radeon 's hardware TnL is paying off ,i guess.
graphics, effects ,sound and music are well built BUT!
you should not expect diablo style quest . nor should you
expect other rpg's fun.
Unless you go to internet or tcp/ip and play with kicking and alive team members .
Yes, not the AI team members you will meet.
you will meet new teammembers(AI)as you play on but they aren't as active as
human team members.
the story is quite simple (tasteless)
and i hope people with powerful hardware(cpu, vga) try this game
IF they have friends willing to play together.
i'm waiting for the expansion(if there is any comming out).
so people who do not have good hardware, wait untill you upgrade your pc and then buy the full set.
people who have good hardware but don't have friends to play with, go for other games.
great technology with lesser taste.
