Summary: Not as bad OR as good as many people are saying
Review: This is the first MMORPG I have played and I think that is why I enjoy it a little more than some of the MMORPG veterans. I have no frame of reference and can only base my enjoyment on what I am currently doing, not by comparing it to something done in the past. That said, some of the vets are correct about lack of content. I will be very happy if the devs can add some quests to the game that are more than run to spot X, do something, return to quest giver.

The group I play with has made this game fun for me. We have huge hunting parties. We help organize and execute huge raids on Imperial bases. We do have our own city and we have a great time playing together. I think that is one of the reasons I have been sticking with the game.

As for bugs, I hear all the complaints about hundreds and thousands of bugs. I think there are maybe 3 or 4 bugs that I have actually experienced in game and only 1 or 2 really effect game play - chat bugs and players disappearing. Annoying? Yes, but very minor annoyances for me. Maybe I am just too forgiving.

I used to have a problem with the game freezing on me a lot (like 2 or 3 times per 2 hours of play) and thought the game was at fault. But after upgrading my PC now I very rarely ever freeze (once a week maybe). So I think most of the complainers about lag and game crashes probably have hardware issues that need to be resolved.

All in all I enjoy this game and have enjoyed it enough that I have maintained my subscription for 4 months now. It was announced that player vehicles are coming out today so I am excited about jumping in the game this evening and trying them out.

IN SUMMARY:
BAD - lack of content, bugs/exploits, need higher end PC
GOOD - great graphics, lots to explore, participating in the GCW with other groups is fun, lots of potential.

If the devs can get creative with quests/caves/dungeons then this game could really soar. As it is now, for a MMORPG newb like me its enjoyable, but I can see why the MMORPG vets are more than a little disappointed.

Summary: WARNING - doesn't run on laptops
Review: it would have been nice if lucas arts had bothered to tell us that this will not run on laptops. you can't upgrade the graphics card on a laptop to enable you to run it either. I have a 2GB PC but this still won't run! REgardless of your views on the game - don't buy it if you have a laptop

Summary: Not sure what they were thinking on this one
Review: Do you want to know what kind of loot you get? Broken stuff! I KID YOU NOT! So you risk life and limb and you loot the corpse with excitement to find... a broken datapad! (or other broken items that you just have to destroy) I STILL want someone to pay dearly for this insult.

I know what you are thinking.. you are thinking that surely there is SOME good loot out there! NOPE. They intentionally designed the game so that the best stuff can be crafted by players with a high skill. Guess what this means? Turn to page 64 (or whatever) and look to see what the best armor is (or weapon) and make it. Ok. DONE. Why go out and kill now? This is an important point. WHY GO OUT AND KILL NOW?

And the bugs are horrible! And they are getting worse! I thought Shadowbane had bugs! It was a cakewalk compared to this game. And I mean BAD bugs. Unacceptable Bugs.

The game will probably be fun for a new player for about 2-3 weeks. It takes that long to realize that there is no point.

Review: ...the pet problem is so severe the word "pokemon" has been banned from the forums!
The game is one giant EQ style leveling treadmill. EG: kill monster A so I can get stronger and kill monster B." A horrifying lack of content plagues the game. The missions are ones a robot could do without problems -go here, kill X creatures. Thats it folks, plain and simple. The GCW is a laughable skirmish. Many classes are broken, and greifers/cheaters/hackers are great in number. Also, the item disappear bugs are horrible. Clothes vanish, right off your back!(it happened to me)Or items disappear and get stuck in vendors. So in closing, stay away from this game. You will regret you bought it.

Not worth the software cost, plus the highest fee of all MMORPGs.

Summary: Best online game i've played
Review: I've never played a computer game more than a couple of months, however this game has kept me enthralled since launch.

You can create a character, and mold it as you wish, your not confined like in other games (Everquest) to one character type. For example, at the moment im a pistoleer and a smuggler, while dabbling in mining. Whenever i feel like changing pace, i can go out and survey, and harvest resources, which go into making in game items (crafted by other players). The economy in this game is amazing, and it's fun to take part in.

Other reviewers have missed alot of the game when they say there are not unique items and equipment crafted by players. There certainly is. For example, you can build weapons and armor from legendary components looted from different creatures and NPC's. Some of these crafted items are extremely unique and powerful.

The game was buggy at launch, and through august, however, it has been VASTLY improved (as is the trend w/ mmorpg's).

The dynamic content is great and improving every day. After all of this time playing i still see new things in the galaxy. For those that want to powerlevel, there is the jedi, and for the casual gamer, you can be just as viable in the community by setting up your character's template once and sticking with it.

Summary: *STILL* beta, and worse
Review: Having played this game since the 2nd week of beta 3, I can tell you - it is still in beta. Constant nerfing plus new bugs being introduced - the new mounts and player cities added many more problems than fun content. The Star Wars feel is very much lacking also. Most combat is against strange monsters - call this EQ in space, not Star Wars. You'll need to go out of your way to find storm troopers or NPC imperials and buildings.

Mostly though, I'm just incredibly fed up with all the bugs and problems. The latest costing me over 30 high-end weapons (as I'm playing a weaponsmith) when the server decided to delete my shop's inventory. This happened to many, many people too - much worse than my meager losses.

In summary: Save you money.

Summary: SOE AND LUCAS ARTS HAS COMBINED TO RIP PEOPLE OFF!
Review: Dont be fooled by the cover of the box or the title of the game. This is not Star Wars....Sure there are some references to Star Wars themes like a few storm troopers here and there...some Mon Cal who is a rebel recruiting people to join the rebellion, and being able to see jabba the hutt...but the game lacks real definition and accuracy. After playing the game for 4 months, I have become a bounty hunter, creature handler, and a medic. I am rich and have most all the stuff in the game that would make people envious, but what I've realized is the treatment that the Devs and CSR treat the players.

They treat us like we are stoopid little jawas. They obviously never saw the original star wars films and have no love for the genre. In fact, Han Solo is the same height as a JAWA! OMG! I couldn't believe it! There were times when I counldn't log on and that the starwarsgalaxies forums were not running.

As of now...I am banned from the forums. Why? Well, I don't know....I just checked my messages on the forums one day and found myself banned. Great. Another one of SOE's charming way of tellingme they are making me beta test the game for them.

The game is still in beta mode! Do not buy this game! It will drive you crazy. The frame rates never gets over 30 fps and frequently falls to 1 fps. I ahve a geforece fx 5900 ultra 256 mb ram and I get at MAX 29 fps. That is unacceptiable at 1024 X 768 resolution.

The content is boring and repetitive. The game focuses on being a power gamer and there is a lot of boring grind waiting for you if you buy this game.

About 80% of the missions are broken...meaning that if you take a mission and travel 2-3 kilos out of town and finally get there...the mission target isn't there. Great! Wasted your time.

sine the new mount and player cities patch, the game crashed a lot. Building disappear and shuttles take 10 minutes to arrive. The shuttle ticket droid still wont take your ticket after the first, scond, and third tries...forcning you to watch as the shuttle takes off making you wait another 10 minutes fo rit to arrive again.

I've wasting time and money on this game with no satisfaction to date. I was excited at first! adn played constantly only to find the repetivie nature of the game and the lack of good technical support.

for all you die-hard starwars fans out there....rent the movies and play jedi outcast...because SWG isn't star wars...more like holo wars......

Summary: So sad to see Starwars Taken to this level.
Review: I've been playing mmo's for years and this one is honestly the saddest I've tried. I guessed since this was Sony online and Lucas Arts that this game would own but it's just a mess. No CSR to help with in game issues. Classes or professions as they call them being nerfed to the point they are no fun to play. Quests are broken or just return junk that you will never use and just delete. Sorry SOE you dropped the ball on this one.

Summary: This game is NOT out of beta yet, but the devs think it is
Review: I totally agree with the poster who wrote "Really thought this was the game to have.... (shakes head), ". I've never had any of my CSR issues addressed. They were just deleted by the CSR's.

As of 12/1/03 the game nerfs continue and they get higher priority than the KNOWN bugs that have been there since launch. If you spent time building your character in Creature Handling so that you could solo some creatures, those days are coming to an end. Even with the player base in an uproar concerning the changes the devs do what they want regardless. It appears that they DO NOT care what the players want. Discenting posts on the forums concerning gameplay changes are just deleted by the CSR's and devs.

Credit/resource duping selling continues on E-Bay with the effect of destroying the in game economy and the only thing that is done is more credit/money synchs. They tell you on one hand that they can see everything in game concerning the duping but on the other hand the CSR's tell you that they can't confirm if you even had that house that disappeared with all of your resources/crafting materials in it. It seems as if the paying customers are just annoying the CSR's and devs.

It might get better in a year or so but if any other company took such a HORRIBLE attitude with their customers they would be out of business by now.

Summary: A vast galaxy of unrealized potential...
Review: Star Wars Galaxies is a game that could have stood head-and-shoulders above the rest, and for 6 months my fiance and I stuck with it hoping that it would become the game it ought to be. The graphics are top-notch, the crafting system is fascinating and highly-addictive, and the dynamic character creation, which lets you create your own custom mix of skills and change them over time, seemed a source of endless fun.

"Fun", however, was exactly what this game was not by the end...instead, it was more like a job, and an unrewarding one at that. From the first patch, the nerfs started and ever-increasing list of bugs started. While bugs are expected in any new game, they became unacceptable when they were rarely corrected and concerned basic functions of the game such as a continually malfunctioning chat system and frequent crashes to the desktop. What made it worse was a hightly non-responsive customer support team...patches were placed on the Test Center and bugs reported by the testers, yet each time, patches would be put on live servers with the bugs unresolved, resulting in a typical 1-2 days of downtime after each patch, in addition to the daily "regular" downtime.

As far as gameplay, the crafting, as mentioned, is fascinating. You can craft anything by pulling up the resources from the ground and creating it. However, becoming a "professional" crafter can require more work than many real-life jobs, as the resources shift continually and there's no way to know without checking throughout the day if the harvester you planted has stopped because the resource as disappeared again.

Crafting would probably have still been diverting if there was engaging combat and other activities to balance the time. Combat is dumbed down so much though, that it there's nothing much that can't be killed fairly easily, even with the low amount of combat skill I had. For instance, I could stand in the middle of several high-level mobs with a pet or two tanking them...I could stand there forever and heal the pets without one mob even noticing me.

One of the more irksome features is the system created to become a Jedi. I would assume that many Star Wars fans would want to buy this game in order to live out fantasies becoming their favorite Jedi ;). In order to play one though, you have to grind up at least 5 professions, unlearning each one as you go, before you can unlock the coveted "force-sensitive slot". I don't know if I could think of a more boring or "unjedi-like" way to attaining this profession. It makes one wonder if the developers have seen any of the Star Wars movies.

After 6 months of increasing dissatisfaction, we finally decided to go back to Dark Age of Camelot for a break and have ended up staying there. Even we hadn't realized the weight that all the bugs and the boredom had placed till we went to play again in a game that actually ran smoothly. While we may look to SWG again in the future, it won't be till they significantly smooth out the functionality and add a good bit of content to make it enjoyable again.
