Summary: My opinion of SWG as a beta tester.
Review: Really quickly i'll just say that I have not encountered very many bugs at all and alot were fixed with the patch on the 16th and there is no lag. Just does'nt run as well as it should on my system.

Athlon XP2100+
Geforce 4 TI4200 128mb
1024mb PC2100
Soundblaster Audigy

For the casual or solo gamer SWG is nothing more than EQ in space. This type of gamer will never have the time or resources to get to some of the features that seperate SWG from EQ. You really need to be a hard core gamer or join a PA.
Graphics aren't all that great and it does'nt run that well considering the graphics. Remember the Luclin graphical upgrade to EQ? Slight graphics upgrade, that still looked [bad] and the game just did'nt perform well anymore, even on high end system.
You can really see the EQ influence on SWG's graphics. I'm not saying they're bad, cause they're not. They just aren't anything to write home about, and you would expect it to run better based on how they look. Every cantina and shuttle station on every planet I have been all look the same! What is up with that? You'd think they could have a bit more of an imagination.
I think Star Wars fans will be let down, the game lacks the Star Wars "feeling". I've watched the movies many many times, i've even seen Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi when they were first in theaters. And even though there are aliens, ships and droids from the movies I just don't feel that Star Wars feeling. But that's no big deal to me.

I admit after first reading up on SWG a couple of years ago and following the development and the features in the game I was really pumped. Now here was a next gen mmorpg! Well not really. While it does have these features there really is no depth to any of it. Nothing revolutionary about SWG at all. In fact I think that it's no better than Anarchy Online, though I do like Anarchy Online.

So I guess what i'm saying is SWG isn't necessarily a bad game, it's just more of the same. And after playing every single mmorpg out there i'm really tired of the same old thing. For me, SWG does nothing to seperate itself from the current offering of mmorpgs.

Summary: Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?
Review: In Star Wars Galaxies, you can create a character and live in the Star Wars universe just after Episode IV: A New Hope. The game focuses on skill development instead of a leveling treadmill, and there is a wide variety of skills to choose from. Characters aren't restricted to one class of skills. You can easily be a dancer that also crafts clothing and is good with her pistol. One of the most attractive qualities of this game is that you can advance your character in many ways, you aren't forced to run around fighting.

Of course, the fighting is fun, too. The combat system isn't too difficult for beginners, but special moves granted to those with higher skills keep it interesting for the more advanced characters. There are lots of enemies around, you can fight bandits, smugglers, womp rats, gungans, rancors, and much more. You can even travel to Endor to go up against some Ewoks, but don't be surprised if they take you down. Ewoks are fierce.

I think this game is a lot of fun, but the main thing to remember is that your experience in SWG is what you make it. As with any game this style, it's possible to grind your way up the skill trees, pointing and clicking your way to a high powered character. But if you do that you really won't have a good time. Choose goals and go for them, but along the way have fun!

The open-ended nature of this game means that it's essential to find cool folks to play with. If none of your friends are playing, make new friends in game. You can start a player association, have a hunting group, make a band, or even join the empire together. Eventually you and your friends can even start your own city, or buy a starship together.

Star Wars Galaxies provides you with a great world and set of rules. The story you create is up to you.

Summary: Forgetting something?
Review: However much of a Star Wars fan I may be, I have more experience in the field of MMORPG than I would like to admit, which brings a few painful tears to my eyes when I think about this new addition to the Star Wars galaxy (no pun intended.)

Did we all just whisk away the memories of disasters such as, oh, um...World War 2 Online and the recent addition of Planetside, or the older versions of some venerable titles like Ultima Online? No, I can't say that I am avoiding this new title like the plague, but I am afraid that such an ambitious project as SWG could just follow its predecessors to the junkyard. However, there are titles that are out there that keep you coming back for more, but I don't see how this is going to follow suit!

I mean, pay-to-play is a great idea, but did anyone look at the real big sellers these days? Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942, Half-Life. I don't see these guys running a $8-$14 monthly charge so you can run around and "interact" with friends online. Sure, those games are basically a run n' gun field day which only last about 30 minutes a leg, but the real gamers (averaging daily 6 to 8 thousand peak for MOHAA and BF1942 and 16,000 for HL) stay on for hours at a time enjoying the conversation and mindless chaos...for free!

I'm keeping the $... in the bank (plus the monthly fees) or putting it to good use with RAM or video card upgrades (you'll need it for upcoming titles like Doom 3 anyway.) Star Wars keeps high on my list (as long as Lucas doesn't keep up with these horrendous "prequels",) but the gaming industry in this field is best left for the people who come home at the end of the day and just want to kick back, relax, and unload a few rounds online into your neighbor whose dog won't shut-up!

Summary: NDA Lifted
Review: Not gonna repeat everything I wrote for the collectors edition rewvie but I have been Beta testing this game for quite some and my suggestion is to wait 6 months before buying it. It is unfinished and you are actually paying to open Beta test this game. If you don't know what Beta testing is, you can look it up :). This is status quo for online games to be unfinished for release and have the paying customers pick up the tab on finishing them. The only nice part I found about this game was the graphics. Aside from that, the game gets very repetitive and lacks a lot of content.

Summary: NDA lifted - Some truth revealed by a BETA tester
Review: I have been Beta testing this game for quite some time now and I was honestly ready to buy it up until the last update patch. Do yourself a favor, do not buy this game for another 6 months or so. It is not finished, I repeat IT IS NOT FINISHED. There are a ton existing bugs and server problems that will make it unbearable to play for quite a while. They have made any type of advancement take weeks to accomplish so that you do not advance into the unfinished parts of the game. You are honestly paying for open Beta testing. This is the status quo for online games nowdays (minus anything from Blizzard). I had high hopes for this game and was looking forward to its release, but now I am being forced to look for something else to entertain me. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the graphics are extremely well done.

Summary: Beta Opinions
Review: I've been beta testing the game for a couple months, and they finally lifted the NDA today, so here's my two cents.

First off, do not expect a bug-free game. This game still has a lot of bugs, and I cannot imagine that they will remove all of them and not introduce new ones within the next week. As a weaponsmith last night, here's some of the bugs I ran into: many objects I crafted were deleted as I moved around the planet (actually moving from server to server), many high-end weapons were not balanced reasonably (the low-end weapons are currently better), a few weapons components were impossible to build due to typos in the schematics, my shop couldn't hold an item for sale for more than 4 1/2 hours, experimentation (which is supposed to improve items as you craft them) was not working as intended (it's hard to describe--it sort of works), the program crashed to desktop twice, and the shift key kept getting stuck down.

By launch, some of these bugs will fixed, some of them will still be around, and some new ones will show up.

That said, I think this game is worth buying. Bugs are part of the price of having a huge game, with new content being added all the time. Furthermore, I owned Anarchy Online during the first week, and SWG is far better than that (SWGs servers can get laggy, but they generally stay up).

And, besides, the game is fun. I like the combat system, because it is not twitchy, but it does require some thought (when to kneel, when to go prone, which special moves to use in which order, etc). I like the crafting system because the economy is player-driven and you can easily become a well-known crafter by selling high-quality products (so many people know my name at this point that I get constant messages asking for items).

And, if you've got the machine to handle them, the graphics are awsome. It's not so much that one scene or another is beautiful--it's the diversity of scenery. Between 10 worlds, and many distinct environments on each world, there's an enormous number of breath-taking scenes. Even after playing for two months, I often stumble on new cool-looking stuff.

In summary, this game will not be all things to all people. If you want a deep linear story, you should stick to single player games. If you want a huge amount of diverse quests, you should probably play everquest (or wait a year before getting this game). If you can't tolerate lots of bugs, avoid all MMORPGs at release. However, if you like wandering through huge RPGs, interacting with large numbers of people, and seeing lots of cool terrain then this is the game for you.

Summary: GREAT, better than expected
Review: I'm one of the Beta Testers for this game and I'm here to tell you...It's worth the wait! You will immerse yourself in what is to be the biggest Star Wars gaming experience EVER!!! I've played it, and ordered it. No Star Wars or Online Gamer will be dissapointed.

Summary: I don't think so...
Review: Well for me Star Wars has always been one of the most pop candy of all sci-fi's so the game scares me that it will follow in that line, especialy now that they have taken out the dark jedi as being playable.

Summary: A great game and a worthy investment
Review: Okay, I have been reading these reviews, and money is one of the biggest concerns people have. I do have to agree that it is a valid concern; however, I feel (personally) the amount we have to dish out is well worth it for this game. Between my boyfriend and I, we have spent thousands of dollars throughout the years on games at 40-50 bucks a pop... the typical time it takes for me to get bored or finished a game... maybe a week or so. So that's 50 bucks for one week's entertainment; whereas, after the initial 50 bucks and then 12 bucks a month for a whole year, we'll only have to pay 12 bucks a month for entertainment. The fact that there is always something to do in the game is a major plus! Also, no.. not everyone playing this game wants to shoot things! There are plenty of devoted entertainers and artisans as well as members of every profession in there. So if you can meet the system requirement, I think it's a good investment (considering I easily spend 12 bucks a month on non-interactive blockbuster movies!) Yes, the economy is bad, but the money has to flow through the system somehow.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Buy this Game!
Review: I have been playing SWG as a Beta tester for a couple of months, and as of today, we are still under the NDA so I can't give out specifics. But the attention to detal in this game is amazing, the graphics and sound are supurb, and game play will appeal to both the casual and hardcore gammer. Its not a mind numbing grind game.
If you like Star Wars and online RPG's, This will be worth your money.
