Summary: Regarding a competitor
Review: My kids eat cheerios religiously and currently they are offering free computer games with the cereal. We got Hasbro Scrabble on a cd in the cheerios box (the cd also was a AOL cd but you do not have to install) and the game works great. So, for all of the folks who struggled with the full version, go buy some cereal and enjoy.

Summary: The best and the worst
Review: My wife and her friend who lives 100 miles away play scrabble continuously when they are together. I decided to download the trial version to my XP computer to check it out before I bought it for her computer which runs Win 98. The downloaded version ends after 20 minutes and you have to buy it. So I did and opened it on my computer. It works great. The license allows you to install it on up to five computers that you own so I installed it on her computer, did the on-line registration and the first time I tried to start the game it locked up with the black screen. I'm a Certified Microsoft System Engineer so one would think I would be able to figure it out but nothing I tried seemed to work. Thought it might be the firewall, disabled that but it actually made it worse. At first even with the black screen I could do a CTRL/ALT/DEL and then hit an Enter even though I couldn't see the screen and it killed the program and got me back to desktop. But after disabling Zone Alarm Firewall even that didn't work and had to hard boot. Tried calling their tech support and got disconected several times. Then e-mailed them and four days later got a response that was absolutely worthless. Tried installing it on another Win 98 SE machine I have and it did the same thing. So for now it only is running on my business XP machine and my wife is driving me nuts because she now thinks she should have access to my computer any time she wants to play. This game is ruining my life... (well, not really, but it is frustrating) I cannot recommend this game as the software has some serious flaws and the company seems to not stand behind it.

Summary: Stick with the board game ...
Review: Right from the get-go, directly after the flawless installation, Scrabble got stuck in a loop where my human player (me) and "Mavin" (computer player), were both being controlled by the computer, though clearly not instructed to. As the computer played the game, I could not break the cycle to exit to the main screen. Soon my system locked up hard. I rebooted and attempted again, but once again was met with a computer attempting to control my moves. One more lock up and one more reset, and now I can play normally, controlling my own moves. Very odd indeed! The music is horrendous and must be turned off. The game is "okay" to play, but I end up becoming annoyed after awhile for no particular reason. Just some hidden form of angst the Scrabble Complete draws out. Boggle still sits, I haven't installed it yet. Stick with the board version of Scrabble. Have a friend over or two and be social. No sense wasting your time with the faceless Mavin.

Summary: Buyer Beware.
Review: Scrabble Complete does everything right except this;When it calculates your overall score it subtracts when you win several games in a row, instead of adding. The more you win the lower you score. Atari Technitions, in my opinion, know about this and give you the run around when you ask for their help. Atari appears to have created a faulty product and refuses to deal honorably with the public. You know, childen, I'm talking about,SKUNKS!.

Summary: Scrabble Complete-HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
Review: Scrabble Complete has caused nothing but problems since it was installed on my computer running Windows XP. When first installed it wouldn't run and locked up the computer. After rebooting it did run ok for the remainder of that day. But the following day it would not run and again locked up XP. Unstalled and reinstalled many times, same thing happened. Hasbro and Infogrames were never any help and neither is Atari who now owns the rights to this fiasco. Never any patches or help. Amazon would do it's customers a favor by refusing to sell this game. DON'T BUY SCRABBLE COMPLETE! I'd really give it zero stars, but the dropdown box wouldn't allow a zero.

Summary: Word Up?!
Review: Scrabble has been one of the most educational and challenging board games ever made. Nonetheless, it just keeps trying to become a little more challenging every single time. Although I was never good at it, until the game show with Chuck Woolery came along in the 1980's. Still, it is just as challenging as ever. Still, it makes it quite an escape with a computer challenging you in the mix. Still, I always have trouble trying to keep score in the game, but here, the computer takes the gamble. The game also comes with Boggle, another game that has been a classic in households for a long time. I haven't experienced a game that challenging, especially when it comes to the different styles of Boggle, including the classic, In Your Face Boggle, and and Breakaway Boggle. It is very interesting for somebody that doesn't know how to play a game like that. For newcomers it is fine, but advanced players might get a little bit bored with it already. Hopefully, many more board games like this will come on CD-ROM enjoyment soon. It is just plan sad that it hasn't happened yet. Still, many people would rather get the board game in full bloom, as a board game. But I only recommend Scrabble Complete, if you don't fall asleep to it.

Review: Scrabble installed, but wouldn't launch...black screen, had to do hard reboot. Boggle wouldn't install AT ALL. Infogrames owes a huge apology to anyone who bought these two coasters.

Summary: Poor Implementation
Review: The actual game play is good, but the next version should be developed for Windows using modern technology. This is the second and last version I'm buying until a complete rewrite is avaiable. Skip all the memory-sapping doodads, make the game simple, fast, stable, and not dependent on the CD being in the drive, and I'll pay 50 bucks for it.
