Summary: The most engrossing game I've played
Review: If you want to shiver, jump and duck, this game's for you.
The graphics, powered by the awesome Unreal engine, are simply incredible, the levels beautifully designed and the story simply sucks you in. I have literally found myself being scared to enter a room for fear of what I might find there.

If you're looking for a FPS on the level of immersiveness of Half-Live (but with better graphics), then this game's for you.

Summary: Good graphics lots of action
Review: The game was very interesting with a lot of combat. The game is played on different worlds as you are trasported from one to another. I would not have gotten through this game if I didn't have Prima's Guide. It helped with both the various combat situations and room/world directions. Items had to be collected in a specific order or you would never complete a section. The biggest draw back to the game was the controls. Because you control both weapons & magic spells, you needed keyboard & mouse controls to cast spells & fire weapons. Some spells did not work at first. I found out that you had to use an alternate keys to cast certain spells & load or use different weapons. Overall the game had good graphics and an interesting story line. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes action games with many different type of foes.

Summary: This is an excellent game!
Review: I was a little unsure whether or not to buy undying, but I'm glad I did. Even though it's single player, it is one of my most played games because it's pure fun. I've beat it on every difficulty setting and still just love the story and the frightning atmosphere.

The weapons are fantastic, expecially the sythe that can slice body parts off in a few clean slashes. And with the other hand you can cast spells in case you need to reload your firearm, like the 3 skulls or lightning.

I would normally tell people to download the demo, but only play it to see some of the guns and spells because the demo has NO story in it and it not as scary as the full game.

the only bad thing I didn't like about it was the rain and snow. It gives you bad fps so I had to turn it off with a command.

Summary: An impressive journey!
Review: Clive Barker's Undying is a truly wonderful game. Combining wonderful elements of horror (remember playing Alone in the Dark for the first time?), quality graphics, terrifying sound and music, and most importantly, a huge and intriguing area to explore, this game derserves every praise it can muster.

Undying puts you, the player, in a mansion with the intention of saving an old friend from his dead siblings. The suspense build-up is wonderful, and even being led through the creaking old house (complete with groaning rafters and gusting wind) by the maid at the beginning is truly eeri.

But while the mansion itself is wonderfully scary, I particularly liked the other locales. I rarely hear mentioned (in reviews) the coolness of exploring the surrounding (beautiful) Irish countryside and finding ancient mausoleums, deserted grave yards, and burnt-out monastaries. In a really fascinating sequence, your character must find three amulets in the extensive ruins (including very creepy catacombs) of an old monastery, and then use them to transport back in time to when the structure was still whole, and inhabited. The other worlds, too, are fascinating and varied, ranging from an other-worldly land of magic to a strange 'Eternal Autumn' that reminded me of the Planet of the Apes landscape.

The spell and weapon system is nice, if a bit awkard at first, and the variety of both is ok. The effects are done nicely as well, and the variety of smoothly modeled beasties is striking.

All and all this game is mightly impressive. It takes you on a enthralling and lengthy journey while managing quite a few thrills along the way. Highly recommended!

Summary: Refreshingly "atmospheric" but disappointing in the end
Review: Take a great game engine and a master of horror, put them together along with some inspired sound-effects and graphics and you've got a hit, right? Right?
Maybe not. This game had lots going for it, but in the end neither the story nor the gameplay are strong enough to be worthy of the $$ you're considering plunking down on it.
The best part of the game are the in-game cinematics that do a great job of driving the story along and giving you a carrot to chase after (you get the stick, too). The weapons are pretty cool, and it's fun having spells. Unfortunately, you quickly realize that only one or two of the weapons are really worth developing your skills at, and most of the spells are not worth the time it takes to switch to them.

I give the developers kudos for an inventive UI and a good atmosphere, but in the end I think I would have enjoyed a shorter game with more excitement.

Summary: A great game! Where's the sequel?
Review: If you like first-person shooters and/or role-playing games this is the game for you! Combining both elements, plus an intriguing, complicated, horrific storyline, the game will keep you plastered to it for days. With multiple separate missions and great gameplay, this one is highly recommended!

I just finished it... where's the sequel?? :)

Summary: Great Atmosphere and fun if you like to jump..and Jump...and
Review: Pros: 1. A spooky mansion with neat monsters 2. Great graphics and fun spells that have to be used interactively. 3. Tons of rooms and objectives Cons: 1 Too often a simple thing like jumping up on something is so hard you will either be bored to death or abandon that part of the game altogether. In one place we estimated that about 2% of the entire mouse area resulted in a productive hit. Boring! 2. Weapons changes can be slow and cumbersome even on a 1.5gig P4 system with 256 Ram and a Geforce2 Ultra 64MB. 3. Too much loading everytime you went to a new room. 4. Given the problems with weapons, reloading and jumping, if you hit a complex puzzle it was very difficult to figure out exactly what you were doing wrong.

To best enjoy this game....get the hint book and use it frequently....It will at least tell you whether spending an hour trying to jump on something is worth it.

Summary: This is a great horror game.
Review: If you are a fan of horror games, scary movies or especially Clive Barker novels, then you will like this game. There are cool sound effects and the graphics are good also. It can get a little gory, so if you are sqeamish about blood, this game is not for you. There are 5 quests that you have to complete, with a boss character to defeat at the end of each one (I think - I have not completed the game yet.) You begin in a mansion and there are characters to interact with and the detail and amount of rooms in this mansion are incredible. I think this is a game worth the $40, for sure. Lots of hours of gameplay to complete this one.

Summary: Leave in on the shelf
Review: I'm sad to say that Undying does not live up to the hype. Compared to many of the games I've played lately (Alice, Blade Of Darkness, Vampire The Masquerade, Heavy Metal) on the same computer, its graphics are poor. I admit the enemies are high quality visuals, even though the final boss looks like a ridiculous Creature Feature reject. But the uninspiring backgrounds consist of blocky architecture and blurry details. The motionless 16 bit graphic skies with visible seams are inexcusable. Note to game developers: Put the Unreal engine to rest already.

Enough about the graphics, Deus Ex was no beauty queen but it was a darn good game. So let's talk about Undying's game play. It's completely linear, which you are constantly reminded of by all the doors that don't open and the inability to backtrack. You've walked into a room with 4 doors, only 1 of them opens...which way do you go??? Despite the obvious routes, the pace of the game is rather slow because every couple of minutes the screen turns black displaying the word "Loading" for five seconds. All objects (i.e. tables and chairs) in the game are static so your only interaction with the environment is shooting. The addition of casting spells is no new innovation, it simply amounts to what would be more weapons and power ups in another FPS. The AI is juvenile. Enemies simply run straight at you and their location is predictable when replaying an area.

The level of violence in Undying is much less then one would anticipate for a horror video game. When you attack an enemy they simply fall down, radiate a little red stuff and fade away. Even lopping off heads with the scythe is unsatisfying. Kingpin and Soldier Of Fortune fans everywhere are laughing! The story is laughable as well. In all fairness, most computer games have silly stories but this was the one area of Undying where I expected Clive Barker to shine through.

This game is supposed to be scary??? I guess I just haven’t fallen for the marketing ploy of Barker's name and a big yellow warning sticker on the box. ... The only positive thing I can say about it is that the uninstaller works great.
