Summary: Finally -- Quake gets some GOOD graphics!
Review: When I first saw Quake 2 shortly after its release, I couldn't understand what the big deal was. The graphics just flat out suck. I was assuming they would have some killer 3D. Nope. Even after Unreal came out they didn't spice it up at all. I have Quake 2, but rarely play it. I'm just not impressed.

Enter Quake 3. I am disappointed that it is just a deathmatch game, but John Carmack FINALLY added some GOOD graphics to it. I love the plasma gun. That's always been my favorite. The health packs float and have shading depending on the light, most all weapons are multi-colored, and the game moves fast too.

I have a Pentium II 450 with a Voodoo2 card and was very impressed. The artificial intelligence seems to have gotten much better too. The biggest deal for me was the graphics. I hate when games just use Direct3D. It sucks. 3dfx or a relative of that makes all the difference. If you still don't have one, you are missing out BIG TIME.

If you are into deathmatch AND want a good graphics show, Quake 3 delivers.

It upsets me that it took Carmack well over a year behind Unreal to get decent graphics involved, but at least he finally did it.

Still, if you liked Quake 1 and 2, but haven't picked up 3 yet, you're going to love it.

Very well done with killer AI and graphics!

Review: You miss, you die. This is basically the premise of Quake 3:Arena. iD software shows once again who's king in the fps deathmatch arena. There is basically no replacement, no contender for Quake 3:Arena which sets a new standard for the deathmatch experience.
