Rating: Summary: Could have been SOOOOOO good but....... Review: First off, as you have no doubt read before, this game has nothing short of amazing graphics. That is the good. That said, it's time for the bad. I feel like I'm playing Duke Nuke 'em. No it isn't the same engine or a first person shooter, but the point is the same. Kill. I am so sick of tapping the mouse pointer on vampires, ghouls and rats I could scream. Anyone who has played or even read about the pen and paper game in any detail knows that gore fests are the furthest things from the creators' minds when they think of their World of Darkness. Why then did they go along with the development of this game? If you are looking for a roleplaying game, forget it. This is nothing more than a slickly packaged hack-fest. On the other hand, if wanton slaying is your deal, you will probably like it - Site after site filled with level after level of 'dungeons' to mope around attacking everything that moves. I really must admit I cannot say the game is good or bad. It simply isn't what it was hyped to be.
Rating: Summary: The life of a Vampire Review: I found Vampire:The Masquerade-Redemption to be an awesome game. The graphics and sound are really good and the cinematics are pretty cool too. The part I don't like is saving. You either have to wait for the game to Autosave or you have to travel back to your Haven. This game is very much like Sierra's "Diablo" but more 3-D, more freeness, and more better. There are also more uniqe environments such as medeival Prague to modern day New York! I suggest this game to RPG and action lovers (the game heats up in the modern day). And if your geting bored and getting nowhere you can go [online] and get some pretty good codes from what I hear.
Rating: Summary: It was....pleasing Review: Okay, this wasn't the greatest game I've ever played, and sometimes you just say to yourself after trying a boss (they don't really call them that, but you can see that it is a boss) " Man, this is way too hard" and then you exit and stare at the menu screen for a half an hour (this might just be me, but it's what I did.) The beginning was cool, but then that clocktower in vienna was the most annoying level, mostly because the AI is so bad. The combat was okay, you just keep clicking and there wasn't the most exicting combat moves, although sometime you could stay up till almost 3am in some towns. I know having a challeging game could sometimes be a good thing, I think they overdid it. I kept saying to myself when I was still in prague, "When is it going to turn to the modern age! " Plus Christof is always thinking bad thoughts, he never says "What a ride!" or "That was fun!" I know it might sound crazy, because the whole game being a dark game and all, I think that you have to be a brujah is dumb, I wanted to be a malkavian, there so much fun in the pen & paper game. I liked the modern age, and the graphics are awesome. I think my space is almost up, overall, it was a pleasing game. I would buy it if you can spare a few days and nights playing it. (I almost became a vampire playing it, until it got real frustraing)
Rating: Summary: Vampire the Masquerade Review: It is a good game. Amazon is incorrect however in their system requirements listing. You must have 64MB of Ram to play this game, or it does not run properly.
Rating: Summary: Lived Up To the Hype Review: Usually I am not one to fall prey to insane hype around a particular product, I've had bad experiences in the past (read my review on the Blair Witch Project). But with this game, I had to succumb. And I was definitely pleased. This game is really fun, a hybrid between Diablo and true RPGs. Some people will (and have...) grumble about some AI glitches and simplified battle tactics, but come on, what do you expect? The only other type of combat in a game is the traditional Side-view-lets-all-take-turns combat, which frankly is quite lamer than this game's combat engine. The use of camera angles in this game is fantastic. At first I thought it would be a hindrance, but then I saw the err in my ways. It is a tremendous help, and can aid you in any rendering problems your 3d card comes in contact with. The only problem with this product is the incompadability with video cards. But seeing as how I don't have that problem, I can't dock a mark. For the most part, this game is great on storyline, it stays more tightly tied to the p&p version than most computer RPGs, and it is FUN. And that, after all, is the bottom line.
Rating: Summary: Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption Review: Overall: Not Impressed Good: Pretty Graphics Ok Story Bad: Saving while playing the game not pratical, but can be overcome Spells are completley useless in battle (there was no time to casts spell other then an occasional heal spell) Group Problems: - There is no control over your group in battle - Group constantly geting stuck behind walls and other objects - Group wastes ammo and mana - Group would constantly get themselves killed by charging into large groups of creatures - I was eventually forced to leave group at zone entrance and solo the zone, calling on the group only when needed Basically a hack at it until it dies game Very abrubt ending
Rating: Summary: Why? Review: I ask you, why? Why did they have to screw this game up? Why did they rush to get it out? Why didn't they spend that extra time to make it perfect? Here are my problems. -Save game feature-you've heard it many times more. Here's one more time. -Combat-annoying and too much. Basically the thing that bothered me most was the excessive combat. If you've ever read any of the Vampire: The Masquerade pen and paper supplements you see how the plainly state that vampire is not all about combat. Vampire is about monsters. Damned creatures. Combat is there, but each enemy has a reason and purpose. Not some blundering vampire out to kill. If you want an all out combat romp, buy Diablo. There's only one thing that I think may save the game. The storyteller mode. I find it confusing at times but the possibilities with it are great. With the right storyteller you can have a game with plot and meaning and not all combat. The bottom line is this title had so much potential, but lost a lot of it. I wish I could give it five stars but it's not so. I want other companies to learn from this mistakes. I would have gladely loved this game if they sacrificed graphics for gameplay and story. Make the game using the bioware engine so it's like a Vampire Baldurs gate. Then it could be longer, w/dialogue and have more meaning. Ok, I've used up enough space.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but nothing spectacular Review: Okay, there is one thing indisputably spectacular about this game: the graphics. There's no arguing this fact, they're absolutely awesome with incredible cutscenes and very smooth performance--no jerking movements or dialogue skipping. Transitions are seamless and the whole effect compliments the game fantastically well, Nihilistic did not turn this into a graphics symposium and you won't lose the plot in their splendor. Unfortunately, that's about the only really wonderful point about the whole game. Don't get me wrong, I didn't find anything tragically flawed about the experience, this -is- a very fun game, especially after having played the pen-and-paper version for so long. There is a solid plot behind the entire thing, and interesting dialogue (though it gets a bit pathetic at times, and I bordered on wanting to slay Christof myself as he bemoaned his fate and forbidden love.) But is the plot particularly inspired? No. Is the roleplay that engrossing? No--though, to be fair, I've yet to find a game that really lives up to the what roleplaying ought to be. Is the combat exhilerating? Not in the slightest. Most of my complaints revolve around the mechanics of the game. If you're looking solely for an action-oriented game, skip it. Though it might bear some resemblence to Diablo in the way combat is visually represented, disciplines (read "spells" to those unversed in the White Wolf lexicon) are cumbersome and trying to use them in the middle of combat is almost more dangerous than it is helpful. The player is faced with exceptionally little creative opportunity in combat situations... just keep clicking on the bad guy, and try to stay out of the way of your team so they can join in too. I never felt my heart jump into my throat, or my stomach shrivel to the size of an orange when faced with combat in this game like I have in others--it's just not that exciting. The soundtrack is good, but repetitive. After about ten minutes in a new area, I was pretty much over it. So, what the heck am I saying? This really -is- a fun game, but it doesn't live up to the hype (which may be making me overly critical, but I don't think so.) Go ahead, buy it, play it, you'll have a great time; but don't expect to stay up all night into the wee hours of the morn slaying evil ghouls and denizens of the night.
Rating: Summary: Pre-Diablo Excitement Review: This provides the perfect starting point for Vampire: The Masquerade lovers... Personally, I have always wanted to try this RPG and now there is a means of exploring this! It gives us a taste of the Pencil/Paper RPG. The drama and suspense combined with stunning graphics and sound is worth the purchase. I would have prefered to buy the Limited Edition version for $15 more to immerse me in the World of Darkness.
Rating: Summary: Don't believe the game reviews. Review: I read about five different reviews for the game and they all said the same thing good but could be better. I think it is the best game I have. The gameplay is just like diablo with the weapons and the healing and scrolls. The camera is much better; instead of being way away from the action you are right there behind it, like a third person shooter. I love the game, its a must buy!
