Rating: Summary: If only... Review: I've read all the reviews on here so far, and they seem divided. I'm sure I would like the game. If I could play it.I have a brand new computer, which surpasses all the system requirements, except for the supported chipsets for the graphics. I'm a big fan of the VTM system, so I bought the game as soon as I discovered it, sat through the interminable install process, and began to play. Gorgeous stuff in the beginning. Then you hit the part where you start to take control of the action, and everything is gray. This is a game I would gladly have handed over more money for than I did, but it's going back because I refuse to buy a new video card in order to play it. If you plan on purchasing this game, MAKE SURE your system is compatible, or you'll end up returning it unplayed no matter how much you want it.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad buy Review: I've never played Vampire in tabletop roleplay so I'm not quite sure how true the game was to its predescessor. But it was still a very good introduction to the system for me. I learned about magic and lore and the differences between a ghoul and a vampire and a human. The main character, Christof, was very interesting to play. My first nervous twinge about playing a vampire themes games was "Ew... so I'm going to play a bloodthirsty commando?" but as I progressed through the chapters I found that I was in control of my own destiny. I could try to be kind and just or I could be as cruel a jerk as I wanted. There were some annoyances like the lack of saves and the utter confusion of combat and lack of tactics (You pretty much just mobbed a monster with everything you had and hoped it was enough) but I've heard that this will change soon with a patch. The game progresses from the days of the crusades to modern times. I didn't care much for the time jump (It would have been much cooler to slowly progress through time to modern ages) but that might have made the game ten times longer that it was, so that's just a small gripe. The characters of Christof, the holy knight turned Vampire, and his love Anezka, whom he searches for out of guilt and out of love are wonderfuly done and made the story more real. The dialogue was well written and made up for the messily done hack and slash fests one must take to progress through each level. Another really great feature is the multiplayer capabilities. One of the things that makes it so great is that a person has the option to be a game master in an adventure and control just about everything. It's really great to be able to craft your own games and so far this has been the first one I've ever seen with this option instead of running Quake-like through a maze and killing everybody in sight. Overall there were some innovative options in this game and it was well put together, just the combat was a little confusing at times and the lack of saving points made it difficult. Still, I think that the good points outweigh the bad.
Rating: Summary: Buggy but patch soon to come to fix all messed up shiznit! Review: Right out of the box the game is really really buggy, but this patch that is coming out is huge and is gonna fix AI and will let you save anywhere. And for those of you who think melee fighting gets a little to hectic, it will let you pause and then assign them actions. So if your thinking about not buying it cuase you heard it was buggy still buy it cause there are things called patches.
Rating: Summary: Valiant effort, but not quite Review: The idea is sound enough: Follow the life of a Vampire throughout the ages, in different parts of the world, battling different creatures of the night. If they had managed to make this game more suitable to a wider audience of people with mediocre computers, it would have been a lot better. The Gameplay, equipment and character management are all remeniscent of tried-and-true Diablo. This is a good thing. The bad thing is that the large 3D areas you will encounter will leave the game very choppy, even on Maximum installation. In short, I would recomend this game to anyone who has a very high end computer, and enjoyes RPG games. If your like me with an average computer..I'd have second thoughts. Pros: + In depth story + Equipment and Character Management is good + Good Cutscenes Cons: - Game becomes very slow at times, even on my Pentium Celeron 500 with 96 Megs RAM, with Voodoo 8 Meg Graphics Card - Giant Resource Hog.. (1.25 GB for max install) - Combat is more than a little mundane
Rating: Summary: I love this game Review: First let me say I am really into First Person Shooters i.e. UT and Q3. I saw this game and said to myself, "Let's give it a try". I am so glad I did. It is a nice change of pace. Pros: 1. Great story 2. Great Graphics 3. Reminds me of playing Zelda on NES. (You got to around and talk to people, listen to clues, and find stuff) 4. You get to follow a course of action. 5. It is really fun. 6. Lots of gore. Cons: 1. Steep requirments: You need 1.25 gigs to do full install. 2. Controls are cumbersome compared to UT and Q3, but then again this is not a first person shooter. 3. You must download the patch that is out. It fixes some bugs. Overall, this is a good game.
Rating: Summary: Live in the Darkness Review: When the Vampire game was released, i was a little worried. Could this game bring the atmosphere and the rules of the original RPG(like Baldur's Gate did with AD&D)? Or was just another simple game with a famous name just to sell more? Fortunely, my worries was in vain. Vampire: Redemption is a great game, with stunning graphics, great music and voices. The rules of the RPG was transported with great success to the game, altough you can't choose your favorite clan(Christof is a Brujah). There is some bad points about the AI(A hint: never put bows in the NPCs, because if a enemy is hidden behind a wall or something, because he begin to fire on the wall) and save system, but it can be fixed with upgrades(the 1.1 version, you can save anytime, anywhere). If you like vampires, or like RPG games, or a good game, you will enjoy it. It's anything more fun than feed of humans walking on the street!
Rating: Summary: A valiant effort, but well short of good... Review: I sadly remember the day when this game was released. I had waited long enough, and finally I had the game in my hands. I remember being so excited until about 1 hour into the game. It was then that I realized that this game was terrible. The graphics were nice, and the cut scenes were above average. The voices sounded good, and the combat was a little fast, but adequate. But I wasn't having fun. I realized that the game was pretty deep, and dwelling deeper into the game's cool storyline would require more of the bad AI, terrible - I mean HORRIBLE combat system, and scrappy mouse driven interface. I couldn't take it anymore. I wished I could just watch the game instead of play it, then I would of been happy. I did what I had to do, and finally uninstalled it. I thought of all the money I spent, and went to find another game. What a tradgedy that a game with that much potential had to be ruined by an obvious rushed product. If your a gamer who likes fast action and addicting gameplay, then go buy Icewind Dale or Diablo 2, not this game.
Rating: Summary: Challenging--in good ways and bad Review: Vampire is probably the only game I'd give four stars to that I enjoy as much as I do. The challenging parts are in learning the many spells available to you as a vampire, and with some monsters early on that are frustratingly difficult to beat. You may find yourself getting tired of reloading so often in the early stages of the game, as saves are limited to certain areas. There's no way around that until your character skills advance far enough to learn "Walk The Abyss"-a spell which transports you to your save station, or you can buy a one-time use scroll. Those are significant gripes. If you can put up with them, however, (and the game is intriguing enough that you'll probably want to) you're going have an incredible experience. There's nothing that doesn't deserve praise-the plot, characterizations and voice acting are all very well matched to the mood of the game. The graphics are jaw dropping (that's no overstatement). The interface is clear and easy to grasp if you remember a few hot-keys. Volumes have been written about the multiplayer option, in which players can create entire adventures of their own to play online, and the freedom is inspiring. I wish the game came with a manual that delved more into the mechanics of the Storyteller system; it has earned as much attention as it can get. As it is, the process is a little more difficult than it needs to be-so save often as you create. The difficulty level of Vampire is high for newcomers, so I gave it 3-1/2 to 4 stars. But if you love RPGs and are looking for a captivating game with a long life ahead of it, Vampire is it.
Rating: Summary: Excellently Evil Review: If you love Vampires, this is a great game. I never played the paper version, but the gaming system in this game is very good. The advancement system is nice in that you don't have to wait to advance levels to gain stats and abilities. Just get enough experience and you can upgrade yourself at any haven. The graphics are pretty good, but there is something about the characters (human and non-human) that doesn't look quite right. The scenery is excellent though. I run this game on a P3 450 with 96M RAM and only have slight glitches. Dialogue is occasionaly choppy, but gameplay is never interrupted. I love the main character. The irony of a Crusader now being one of the damned is great. Character interaction is intersting, but a bit limited. Overall, this game is a nice addition to the RPG market. It's not the same thing is pretty decently put together.
Rating: Summary: Well done activision! Review: Two years ago I read a computer magazine which contains vampire in reviews section. It was amazing i like the story i like the characthers especialy i like the four cities. Two of them in ancient times two of them in modern times. After two years Activision released the game and ý bought it.It was the same thing which i saw in the magazine. In the begining of the game (after you bit by woman) the enemies are strong i defeated them hardly then the boss of the first place came and i tried to defeat him sixteen times so it is a long and a hard game but the saving system of the game is worse but you can use your spells to save easier (except the clock level in viena you can't escape from there and you can't use your spells to escape so you can't save).I think activision made a great game about vampires the graphics are very good, the spells(disciplines)are very good...so, if you want to play a great and a long, hard game choose this one.(so so so so so....... :-P
